That’s funny Riky. I actually saw someone wearing a slipknot tshirt yesterday, a kinda hipster looking 20-something girl. I was wondering, which would be worse? If she was wearing it ironically because she’s a hipster, or if she legitimately likes the band? 😆
@@andyzuleta5344 Have you heard the 1st Fear Factory album? That actually is very heavy and 90 percent death metal. I'm not into anything after that, but that album holds up.
I took my kid to the park the other day and some parents there started being inconsiderate playing some 90s alternative on their phone full blast luckily they left shortly after.
I actually like South of heaven more. I love Reign in Blood but South is just got more variety on it. But then again with Slayer my favorite albums always change. Right now it’s Hell Awaits
My 10yr old son say’s we’re all posers. Because Slayer sold out after Show No Mercy. Then he threw a box of tampons at me and told me we need to man up
@@KaaiHawaiianDeathMetal I like the cut of his jib! Calling out the posers from an early age. J dawg should teach a philosophy & etiquette class on posers at Yale
@@Unleashedraider1985 When he said that, I had to bust him down a notch. Because he likes all the Slayer albums. Unfortunately, the part about the tampons and needing to man up are a fabrication
Like I understand Frozen Soul isn't original, but I find them really fun musically. Shrug, not everything has to be a religious experience. I fight not to be jaded.
I was lucky to be in my early 20s during ressurection of death metal here in europe (early 2010) and I love new US death metal in last couple of years, first that is on my mind is ruin, hamarr, decrepisy, shrouded infinity, and fleshrot (even if they LP is a bit boring) just to name a few, real DM is alive and kicking in 2020s as in 90s.
Calling something unoriginal as a reason to not enjoy it seems pretty pretentious to me. Frozen Soul puts on an amazing show and having listened to old school death metal bands since the 80's, I get bored and need to hear something different but similar. Frozen Soul is the perfect band for that. One of my favorite newer acts.
Question J-Dawg???? Is there any particular sub genre of metal that sells way more for you guys than anything else? Or do you notice a pretty even amount of each sub genre sells like death metal, black metal, and grindcore etc?
I'm a few years older and have pretty much the exact same taste as you. Probably lean a little more on the techdeath/brutal death side. But I have to say out of all those new bands. Sanguisugabogg is for sure the cream of the crop. I'm not huge on production. I can listen to some pretty raw demos and still enjoy it. But that Homicidal Ecstasy album has probably the best low-end production I've ever heard in death metal. Give it another spin and crank it. That one is great. I would say they are better than Frozen Soul live also. The singer Devin Swank is a young dude but seems like he has his death metal priorities in order. I think he's a great front man. Hell I think he could sing for Suffocation today. And I like Ricky! But he ain't no Frank Mullen. Frank is on my Mount Rushmore of death metal singers. And I think Devin could fill those shoes. He's just got great projection like Will Rahmer, Corpsegrinder or Karl Sanders. Out of all those Maggot Stomp bands. Saggysugarballs is the best.
J dawg, what do you think about Demiser from South Carolina??? They play a kind of blackened thrash but they sure do fit the bill. Spikes, black, leather, and in the case of one guitar player, chain mail. Metal as hell. I saw them the other night opening for artificial brain. Demiser crushed.
French Death Metal band Loudblast were so Brutal for 1988. French trve Kvlt Black Metal bands Nuit Noire, and Traditional Metal bands H Bomb , Demon Eyes, Vulcain, and the Satanic High Power. Some really Heavy things from France 🇫🇷.
There's some canoe promoters in Denver trying to kickstart a new "Denver Death Fest" lmao. I'm sure you haven't heard a word of this canoe fest cuz it's only locals announced yet anyways, but would love to hear your thoughts on it when they really get the national announcements rolling. Shits looking almost as bad as Milwaukee Metal Fest brah 🤣
I live in Denver and I hadn’t heard anything about it lol, probably because I’m not on social media. I just looked it up, and I’ve never heard of any of the bands they have announced. We have a few decent ones here, Nephrectomy, Vomit God and Pletys Mografia.. why aren’t any of those bands on the lineup?
@@goat666db for real man, it's the same old local schlock every time with these dudes. Last time Denver had a death fest I saw Macabre and it was fucking awesome
i'll be turning 48 this year & having gotten into metal in the late 80s & death metal in @ '90-'91 i gotta say i'm old school as well. old 80s thrash & early death metal like MORBID ANGEL, CANNIBAL CORPSE, DEICIDE, DEATH, OBITUARY NAPALM DEATH, SUFFOCATION, DYING FETUS, HATE ETERNAL. etc.... is where it's at for me. new school stuff is cool, especially for the new kids & keepin' the scene alive but for me its like why listen to some 3rd rate SUFFOCATION rip-off band done by some 20 year olds when i could just listen to SUFFOCATION. i don't/can't keep up with the new stuff cause there's SOOOOO much of it now. & THE MISFITS are my absolute all-time fave hardcore/punk band & 1 of my all-time faves period.
The last two are indeed slammin. I have enjoyed the two releases Relapse has put up on youtube over the last few months, any idea of an album release date?
Question????? J-dawg's got the right attitude. The old snowflakes that cry about "hardcore posers" sounds like they are just rocking the hulk hogan hair and beer guts and haven't gotten laid in a million years, crying about young guys doing sick death metal shows. Bodybuilding question. Which bands are which bodyparts? For example: entombed: delts, bolt thrower: lats, Mortician = quads, devourment: chest etc. What do you think?
French bands I really enjoy are ADX (classic speed metal), Sublime Cadaveric Decomposition, Blue Holocaust and Darkall Slaves mostly, surely I’m forgetting some Very good stuff goddamnit
Mr. Dawg, do you like any New Jersey Death or Black Metal bands? I watch this shit every morning so I don’t start the day like a fuckin’ POOOOOOOOOOOSERRRR. Thanks Homez🤘
Question ❓❓ JDawg ❓❓ Your thoughts??? I had revisited obituary " darkest day " album.. every song sounds same with the classic obituary tone .. But the booklet is 6 colour pages with NO lyrics, each page contains a full picture of each band member .. Do you think bands should put more effort into artwork??
Obituary has never included Lyrics except partial sections. Here's a real question: Why are you wasting your time listening to Any Obituary made after 1995?
@@crimson_coocherto I thought the same thing after I pressed play, it's no wonder why it was in a box tucked away with other junk CDs that aren't suppose to the light of day
???????????????? J dawg what do you think of heaven's gate feat Paul on drums from cannibal and Tony from mw and iron Reagan on vocals shit rips brah brah
J Dawg QUESTION ????????????????????????????????? What are some good suggestions as far as heavy/power metal go? You have sold me on Running Wild mid-tier stuff, I was like you, kinda turned em away after the first couple albums, but fuck was I mistaken, under jolly Roger and the next 4-5 albums after are bangers, purchased some Vinyl from em even. Cheers brah
1st Helloween, everything by Rage until The Missing Link, first 3/4 Blind Guardian before they turned straight up europower, Mania album Changing Times, Vicious Rumors until Word of Mouth, Crimson Glory first two, Jag Panzer Ample Destruction, Omen’s 80’s albums…. i could carry on haha
Yo J-Dawg gotta Malevolent Creation question??? Did you see that Plastic Head is repressing a ton of Malevolent Creation vinyl??? I think it’s the 1st time Eternal and In Cold Blood and Fine Art of Murder will be on vinyl!!!
QUESTION!!! 💀 🔥??? J dawg what are your thoughts on dissection? Storm of the lights bane is an awesome record, but they may have wimped out on reinkaos? It's a bold statement
I like all 3 albums. I’m sure if he hasn’t been a dumbass and gone to prison. There probably would’ve been at least 3 more badass dissection albums. Reinkaos is a great album. Just a shitty dissection album. The first 2, and the demos, are fuckin amazing
@@The_Original_Homeboy 😆 🤣. I've never seen em live but I can believe it. There young, I did read in an interview that the singer has a mortician tramp stamp tattoo, though tat was pretty funny.
There are some good death metal releases still doing the rounds Disma EP, Imprecation full length, last Desecresy album, Serpent Ascending too. The retro OSDM bands would do well to check some of these out, instead of pumping out rehashed inferior riffs stuck together with shitty song writing. Looking at you Blood Incantation
Attention trolls and posers: next you guys name drop bands and how the “classics” are better, please make a good list to name drop like the dawg on 13:34 The dawg is about my age and he comes up with a better list then some of the older trolls haha
France has some killer bands, Massacra, Supuration and of course Anateus. Cut your flesh and worship Satan is one of the hardest black metal albums of all time.
So I'm half and half when it comes to the stuff I started with. Do I still enjoy those first metal bands that I discovered? Yes. Do I still enjoy the ROCK bands? No.
Not even one band? Given the immensity and the variety of the genre it would seem impossible that there isn't at least one band that's catches your ear. The 70's was the best decade for Rock, however there's been a resurgence in the genre in the past 8 to 10 years especially in the form of: space rock, progressive rock, and instrumental rock. Ever hear the German Space Rock band SPACE DEBRIS? Talk about awesome shit. There's modern Rock masterpieces by the truckload that are a click away on youtube.
Just received my hells order, & the fucking mail man threw my package down on my front porch and shattered one of the cd cases. Thankfully the cd wasn’t damaged from it. Btw loved the HH Compilation disc! Question: how much money do you think your collection is worth these days? And would you ever consider selling it?
yes frozen soul have that bolt thrower vibe, and their bassist is a female too like jo bench and uses a bc rich ironbird bass. but an overweight jo bench version
Speaking of weight, why don’t you skinny guys get some good taste. I have seen all these nice shirts on hells for ages that are only in stock with the odd ball sizes like medium and small…..do everyone a favor and pick up a phlegm shirt
J DAWG who do you consider the most potent pig squealer. Not just who does the most pig Squealing, but also the most intense disturbing Pig Squealing techniques?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
@@crimson_coocherto inside joke you wouldn’t understand The “within “ joke is already a month old which in internet time is considered ancient so please think of something else.
@@andrewgabriel4408 Nobody talks about them much and reviews are usually pretty mediocre. I enjoy all 3 albums with Meyhna’ch and thought Hollow Void was pretty good. Which record do you own?
100 💯 percent overated yes it's ok but I like the evil looking guys the lea coats long hair over there face looking metal as fuck you know you are going to get some awesome shit from those bands the more overated stuff is meh mediocre at best sangabog is ok but everyone's talking about that new album but man new act of impalent conjureth sequestrium nothingness destroys that shit
Frozen soul is a bad example because I think they're no good. But I do think gatecreeper and other stuff is pretty good. I like the new bands coming out. I feel like there was nothing but bullshit deathcore bands for like 15 years. Weather there better than classics or not it's still better than suicide silence and all that bullshit we were getting for a while
Frozen Soul are really boring, you can play that style and have some style. If we're talking newer dm that's good Vastum, Mortiferum, Malignant Altar, and Pissgrave come to mind.
@@MattC.98 Look. I really don't like modern hc. Hardcore punk sure, but the beatdown stuff is just lame. But why does it matter if a band's members came from that scene, if they don't sound hardcore? I've talked to them, they do seem to really love dm. Now bands like Creeping Death, who play dm mixed with hardcore really suck.
Saw Frozen Soul on the Monday just gone along with Dying Fetus and they were boring as fuck. Better than on record but still super lackluster. I don't mean any disrespect to all the new wave of OSDM bands specifically cause there are some great new bands like Faceless Burial for example. But a lot of this "cavernous" Death Metal or OSDM rehash stuff is just made by a bunch of rich Hardcore kids who heard Entombed and Demilich and now it's become such a trend. Like for instance I'm not the biggest fan of Maggot Stomp cause they shit out a million bands that sound the same. They'll shit out a demo and them print loads of merch for that one singular demo and then break up or go on hiatus and you can tell its all for the trend. If y'all wanna listen to something disgusting, abstract and brutal check out any band on the New Standard Elite label. That's where all the real Death Metal is.
For me, the newer Death Metal bands are more about the live shows for me. I love the old shit too, but they just don’t have the energy, and a lot of them just don’t perform anymore. One thing about the new stuff is, it’ll be slower, and it’ll be cleaner. So if you don’t like those two things, you probably will always prefer the old stuff.
