Today I'm sharing my new year 2023's resolutions / goals / intentions as it relates to eating, food, and blood sugar! As someone with insulin resistance, hx of having a prediabetic a1c, and two gestational diabetes pregnancies, I am always thinking about how to get a better hold on my physical health as consequently, my mental health. So while I'm not big on new year's resolutions, I'm taking the start of 2023 to reset my mindset and my eating habits hopefully, to get on track to better overall health. Cheers to the new year!

I’m glad you have a game plan, time will tell how it worked out. I like to experiment on what works and doesn’t and what triggers my eating. Currently I’m mostly carnivore, I do have coffee, cheese and avocado. I like how I feel and especially no cravings for food and always feel full. I’ll stick with that for 3 months and evaluate. We are all different and I applaud you doing it your way. ❤

Thank you so much for your encouraging words! I'm glad the mostly carnivore diet seems to be working well for you right now. I hope you can fill me in on the results in 3 months!

Hey Mama, Did you ever think of going plantbased? When I was on KETO LO CARB I felt HORRIBLE I had no energy and felt awful. I decided to go back to PLANTBASED and have SOOOOO MUCH MORE ENERGY and my blood sugars are now in the normal range as well as my A1C. I thought for sure that my A1C was going to sky rocket as well as my blood sugars but thats not the case. I’m eating bread rice beans and all that good stuff. No kidding My cholesterol is normal my blood pressure is in the normal range where before it was high and my sleep is so much better. You can eat as much as you want no portion control either. Just trying to help you not selling you any products or anything..its just you remind me so much of me and I totally understand how you feel. I just want to eat what I want to eat and not restrict myself. Look at videos from Dr Neal Barnard, Cyrus Khambatta, Dr Michael Gregor. Wish you the best in your food journey my dear. ❤

Thank you for sharing what's worked for you! So glad going plant-based has helped you so much. I don't know if I'd be able to sustain a plant-based diet right now, but maybe in the future I will give it a try.

Just recently I heard that combining fats and cabs results in smaller glucose peak because the fats in top of carbs promote extra insulin secretion. Logically that is pretty bad for resolving the insulin resistant situation...
@thegoodenoughmama
@thegoodenoughmama Год назад
Hmm... I haven't heard that it promotes extra insulin secretion. I'll have to look into that! My understanding is that the fat slows down the overall absorption of glucose into your bloodstream.

I have same issues. Pcos, insulin resistance and borderline high sugars now... Too low carb is not okay for me because am.losing a lot of weight...

Thanks for all the experiments you do. After I read Gary Taubes' Good Calories Bad Calories several years ago I became a low carb guy and followed channels like "What I've Learned" but recently on this channel he did a Dr Valter Longo's 5 day fasting mimicking diet challenge with good health marker results and it turned out Longo is kinda mostly pescatarian, moderately high carb with lots of veggies guy so I'm super confused now 😅
@thegoodenoughmama
@thegoodenoughmama Год назад
That IS confusing! but I assume his carbs come mostly from whole foods like potatoes/sweet potatoes, and whole grains? I can see how a mostly pescatarian moderate carb with veggies could work! Lower fat with higher carb.
@deersakamoto2167
@deersakamoto2167 Год назад
@@thegoodenoughmama Yeah Dr Longo does recommend carbs from whole foods and discourages refined carbs (who doesn't these days), but he's skeptical about keto and says excessively high protein (as promoted by most keto people) can be damaging

Did you take metformin for conception for both the pregnancy or tried with diet for any of the pregnancy? And for how long? I am so worried about miscarriage due to insulin resistance.
@thegoodenoughmama
@thegoodenoughmama 5 месяцев назад
I'm so sorry I didn't see this question earlier! I did take metformin for conception for my first pregnancy. I started metformin maybe a month or two before I had to get surgery to remove polyps in my uterus, then I got pregnant my next cycle and took metformin for the duration of my pregnancy. And then I ate a low-carb diet to manage my gestational diabetes. I hope all is going well on your end!

@@thegoodenoughmama thanks for reply. Did you take metformin prior to conception during second time as well? Or without it also conceived? Also how much mg metformin?
@thegoodenoughmama

@@royalfamily3076 I didn't take metformin prior to conception the 2nd time. When I was taking metformin, I was on 2000mg/day

5.6 on a 2 year keto is still quite high....for chronic diabetes persons , a low carb meal can mean low brain function....whereas a high protein meal can impacts kidneys...at the same time a high fat diet can cause Atherosclerosis ...so finally high carb meal sounds better so that atleast brain functions properly
@thegoodenoughmama
@thegoodenoughmama Год назад
Thank you for your input! I definitely experienced lower brain function on a low carb diet. Overall, my brain was just not happy. That's why I'm trying to take a more moderate approach with carbs now :)
@27mailam

@@thegoodenoughmama TNX! please do let me know which carbs can make your brain feel better without mixing with fat/protein..how can we have only carb meal and still be in control?
@thegoodenoughmama
@thegoodenoughmama Год назад
@@27mailam Oh hm, I don't know if you can have a carb only meal and still be in control of your blood sugar unless your carb source is just vegetables like broccoli or kale or something. But that doesn't sound very satisfying or sustainable. I personally would try to aim for a balanced meal of carbs, fat, and protein, but depending on how your body responds, more/less of the fat and protein if you're worried about the issues you mentioned above.
@27mailam

@@thegoodenoughmama cool personal choice ! but the issues mentioned does downplay the balanced diet idea...u see more meats are being replaced by plant based substitiutes..i do have a all carb hack im just cementing that idea..would share once my research is complete..

Hello dear I have a question for you, is acorn squash keto friendly?
@thegoodenoughmama
@thegoodenoughmama Год назад
Hm, I don't incorporate acorn squash regularly into my diet so I'm not sure. But usually all types of squash are considered starchy vegetables and are higher in carbs than your standard vegetable. If you strictly want to be in ketosis, you might want to only eat it in small portions. If you are doing a more general lower carb whole foods diet, then I'd eat it!

How you controlled GD during pregnancy?
@thegoodenoughmama
@thegoodenoughmama Год назад
I did different things with my first GD pregnancy and second GD pregnancy and both times they were controlled. In my first pregnancy, I made sure to follow all the "rules" about how many carbs per meal and to make sure to have snacks between meals and before bed. With my second pregnancy, I was just mindful of my carbs and ate when I was hungry versus trying to force myself to eat a certain number of carbs and snacks. I'd definitely follow your medical professional's advice, though. Good luck!
