Chicago has as many Latino gangs as L.A. for the most part Mexicans and Puerto Rican gangs. Most gangs gave both Puerto Ricans and Mexican members though. And Latin Kings have been both P.R. and Mexican from the very start...it was never just Puerto Ricans.
Heres the thing not all mexicans left chicago as a matter of fact the Latin kings in chicago were formed when two gangs the Markings (mexican american) and the Imperials (puerto rican) came together. So its crazy how they eventually had a “puerto rican only” rule
Latin Kings today in Chicago have a lot of Black members too, especially in the Humboldt Park area 🇵🇷. As far as modern times go, it’s always been a mixed gang between PRs, Mexicans, and the African Americans who grew up with them. That’s for all the big gangs in Humboldt Park (LKs, MLDs, ISCs, IGs). Nowadays, Chicago LKs is heavily Mexican though since they have hoods all over the south side and across the state 🇲🇽
This is true, NYC will always be infamous for their Mafia history in the early 1900s but the Italians, Irish , and Polish people from Chicago also have a solid history! A lot of the gangs that are still around today started off as white gangs that eventually allowed Latino members in. But their origin histories are fantastic to learn about! European immigrants coming together to protect each other from other immigrant groups! As one of the most segregated cities at one point, Chicago is rich in culture!
