I have been studying this and have my first shoot next week. I have been mentored recently by some amazing photographers. I truly enjoy your tutorials. One thing though...I've learned that using flash is actually not recommended because it can actually damage the babies eyes. Just fYi. Keep em coming. Love your videos.

Love it! I'm 16 and love photography. So far I've only had a Nikon digital camera that broke so I can't use it til its fixed. Love taking pics of nature, espescially close-ups, and of family and stuff. Want to upgrade to a better camera soon but don't know which is best. I want one that will focus on something and blur the rest like focus on foreground and blur background or vice versa. Have a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H90 right now. Which camera do you think would be best for what I do/like? HELP?!:(

Thanks for the great tutorial. Small question. I have a D7000 and thinking of buying a prime lens either 50mm 1.8 or 35mm 1.8 - what would you suggest here since D7000 is a DX camera?? it would be great if you can suggest me which one is great to have in my case :)

I had my 1st DSLR Nikon D3100 few months back and I have been shooting pictures with my kit lens till now. I absolutely love my camera and I was wondering what type of lens I can go for to advance my photography ? I do love shooting close ups and I find myself shooting more nature stuff but i also have been wanting to shoot a picture of moon as well. Would love to know your recommendation for beginners please ? Thank you !

I am looking for a good lens for newborn photos and have a Nikon D5000, what do you recommend? I read that I need an AF-S lens 50mm because of the AF motor or lack thereof. Thanks in advance! Love the videos.

what kinda camera do you own? I'm looking to buy a DSLR and am leaning toward a Nikon D5000, and was jw what you recommend. I've heard the most good things about nikon, but then I've also heard that they r all kinda even as far as pros & cons.

I do not have a prime lens, I hope to get one....wish I knew more about photography before I bought the lens I have :) I thought since the kit lens was 18-55 I would buy the 55-200 Nikkor my goal was to take portraits just like these and of people with the blurred background. I need a lower F stop I am pretty sure mine only goes to 3.5 or 4 but I can pull some good photos off with that for now

Very nice and helpful tutorial as usual. And I came with one question. I noticed that most of the images were taken with ISO 200 when you have enough light for ISO 100 (most of the images has shutter speed of 1/1000 or higher). Why? Thank you!

Sorry I should of been more precise with the question to practicing on a doll. Would a doll allow practice as for getting exposure, compensation, and flash down pact before bringing the newborn into the set? Considering the set was to remain the same (my house). Thanks again for the feedback,

The person who told me that was voted one of New York Magazine's Best of New York Photographers among other major accolades. I was just trying to offer some helpful advice as I'm being mentored by some pretty amazing photographers. Yes they sleep through, but if they should open their eyes, which you cannot control, right when you set off your flash, you can create lasting damage to their eyesight. Natural light and reflectors are a better choice.

There should always be a spotter, always. I'm super disappointed that in the pull back of the twins in a basket and single baby on the bed, there was no one near them. Newborns have a startle reflex and its not out of the question that they could startle and fall out.

o.k. I am going crazy on the "Prime Lens" issue!! Every time I watch a video about them with Baby photography I see the Photographer actually using Zoom lenses???? WHY?? What specific lenses are these lenses they are using? I understand that they ALL talk about Prime lenses. However I thought ALL prime lenses were fixed.? Is there such a thing as a zoom prime lens? I am sorry but I am REALLY trying to learn as much as I can. I would like to be successful. I keep seeing in these videos the photographers using other lenses also. What are they?

Do you get any connection with the babies themselves, you sort of glibly talk about how the babies should be fed and talk about baby crying with some disdain but don't acknowledge that these things do happen. You seem more concerned about your time than photographing your subject. I mean seriously you have to have better strategies than that to help soothe the baby or keep your main subject comfortable! A baby should be fed but that is not the only reason for a baby crying. PLUS in some instances, if you get mom's permission ahead of time, mom nursing can be a photo opportunity or you can still have mom covered and photograph babies feet or hands.
