Darren Helm scored a series-clinching goal with just five seconds left in the game as the Colorado Avalanche eliminates the St. Louis Blues 3-2 in Game 6, will face the Edmonton Oilers in Western Conference Final.
Oilers haven’t made western conference finals since 2006. Avalanche haven’t made western conference finals since 2002. What a series this is going to be! Mackinnon Vs McDavid!
ONLY thing is AVS have 3 times the Talented players than the Coilers have ... Coilers have 2 players .... ENOUGH SAID ..... Loll.... NAZ will be ALL over Walk on Water
AVS are scarry this year, can't wait for the Western Conference Final. Blues put up hell of a fight, in general this has to be one of the best playoffs the last few years.
In 96 I lived in Vail CO and that was the AVS first season in CO. I grew up in Kansas City. We didn’t have hockey. But instantly fell in love with the AVS. They won the cup beating FL 4-0. Then in 01’ the AVS got Bourque from Boston and won their 2nd Cup. So watching this team finally get to the Western Conference Finals is amazing!! Go AVS!
I was born in Colorado Springs and grew up in Denver. My dad is from Kansas City though so I was raised a chiefs, royals fan. But for the same reason, no hockey in KC my dad and I have been AVS fans my whole life. Was also there in ‘96. Cool to see another KC-CO connection. 👊
Cheers... the more the merrier....it's crazy amazing in Phoenix... lots of avs fans there as their team showed up a year after the Avs did.... I wonder how many flipped from Avs fans to Coyote fans that year?.... not rubbing it in here just sharing.... I was at game 7 in 2001 was in the last row at the top behind the benches on score side twice.... and seeing what Joe Sakic did that day really stays with me and what kindness can do for someone else still gives me goosebumps to this day..... crazy quick stat for you.... the last time the Avs gave up the 1st goal 4 times in a row was in 2001..... now that's a stat I'm ok with...lol
What a series !! Great hockey! Congrats to the AVS! Harnarayan Singh (Singer) has improved and just keeps getting better and better with his play-by-play! If only he was on ESPN- Gary!
His sing-song goal calls were a hard sell for me... but his passion is unquestionable, and he keeps up with the play well... and hearing about his journey to NHL Playoff broadcaster... I'm sold! Very likeable guy. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2FMj6RqtOFY.html
Singh and DeBrusk are really good together. Really like listening to them. DeBrusk has good insights as an ex-player and Singh says things like "top cheese" and "fantabulous". What's not to like?
@Al Grundau This is a fake alt account...Start date May 10 2022.....It is being run by KOODA /THAT 90's SHOW please ignore this troll. Thank you and do not respond.
@@cbones8897 why did we give away markstrom? demko is decent but markstrom is a good goalie except against the oilers... (another long time canucks fan)
Great gutsy win by the avs, so happy for them! I must say though I can't be the only one with serious concerns in net... the last 2 games kuemper has been flopping around like a fish out of water, allowing some pretty tough goals. That needs to tighten up a ton if they want to go all the way
Very true but let's not forget that Hyman, Bouchard, Keith, Nugent-Hopkins, Nurse have all scored goals in the playoffs against the best defensive team in the regular reason from the Western conference in terms of goals against!
Turned to my girlfriend and said “well, I guess this one is going to overtime” and then bam! Scores one off the boards and went directly through everyone. Great game.
Helm had a fantastic series. He was one of the few Avs to give it 100% every shift he took. Wasn't afraid to play physical and took the chances when they came his way. Awesome to see him get the series-winner.
all i ever wished for was a mackinon vs mcdavid playoff series im a habs fan and with us doing the finals last year despite the negativity , the 2 highest bucket list squares just been checked i can die a happy man now... well not after western conferance is settled lol
no one talking about the fact that Darren Helm a guy who's never really played a full season in his career has made history by getting the Avs to the WCF in 20 years...
That last play was just.......honestly I can't believe I watched it happen live I almost fainted....I love the Oilers but Mike Smith doesn't stand a chance against the Avs lines.
@@Mkby88 tell me you don't watch hockey without telling me you don't watch hockey. How many goals does Hyman and Kane have as well as connor and Leon having 26 points in 12 games? Avs are toast
@@Junketsuadidas True , I agree Kuemp was leaky this series. I still do think he's better than Smith. The Oilers blocked a ton of shots vs Calgary. I just really believe the Avs lines are VERY deep. There'll be many matchups this series. McDavid vs Mackinnon. Kane vs Kadri etc. I think Makar is honestly the difference maker for the Avs going into this series.
@@michaelkeller5927 the Avs just beat a team with superior goaltending because they shoot in bunches. They can do this because of their defensemen and scoring depth. If the blues goaltenders didn't have spectacular play this series would have been another blowout. Hope the oilers have spectacular defense because I'm pretty sure their goalie can't withstand 40-50 shots on goal a night.
What a series, GG blues, O’Reilly class act as always we miss you in Colorado, Binny your still a goon. Onto the next. Mackinnon VS Mcdavid to settle some talk
That would be incredible, history in the making. But the lightning are easily the best team in the NHL. It would be a tough series, Oilers have speed though. Plus mcdavid needs his first cup to match Crosby and ovi. Canada deserves another Stanley cup it’s been so long.
@@justinbarton8808 Nobody deserves a cup unless their team wins 16 games. Sure, it's been awhile since Canada won a cup, but that doesn't mean they deserve one. There have been plenty of Canadians on the cup winning rosters, though. 15 of the 32 players who played for the Lightning last season were Canadian (including guys who only played 1 game in the regular season like Daniel Walcott).
@@averagejojofan8649 i dont even want avs seeing the finals. Why im goin for oilers. Want them knocked out. Cup winner will be bolts or canes in my opinion
That’s something the oilers don’t have. Depth. When the top line isn’t scoring, someone from the second third, even fourth line steps up and gets it done
Well the point is that you take out your opponents best players to score so that you hope you can beat them out. The Blues were excellent in making MacKinnon's life hell, and keeping Rantanen at arm's length. That's why you need depth scoring so that your bottom guys can use up the real-estate that the other team gave up to pin your top down.
Another stat to follow in the upcoming Avs vs Oilers is PPG all time playoffs. For those with 30 or more playoff games, McDavid is 5th all time with 1.45 per game and MacKinnon is 6th all time with 1.37 per game.

@@co_snowy fLAMEs was a top 3 defensive team in the league and they got exposed, Kuemper looked leaky in this series should be another high scoring matchup.
The Avs showed their resiliency tonight.. i thought and still think that the St.Louis Blues may be the only team which had the grinding style that can beat Tampa Bay for the Cup. The Avs showed today they can bounce back too.. This is a very significant win for the franchise after almost 20 years. MacKinnon vs McDavid... the Battle of the Big Macs !!
@@bxtrrrrr2099 I wouldn't denigrate them that way but I agree with you that most teams cannot match the speed of the Lightening.. which means the game has to be slowed down if you want to beat them. Its a grind it out style of hockey that has more of a chance to beat Tampa at this point. And the Blues seemed to be the best bet to do that. The Avs will once again need players other than MacKinnon to step up the way they did it against the Blues almost this entire series
No offense but if the Blues couldn’t “grind” the Avs down enough to prevent the Avs from putting up 39 shots on goal in a do or die game, why would they have what it takes to beat Tampa, or as the implication is there, why don’t the Avs have what it takes to beat Tampa?
Agree. Hope to be wrong though, would love to see avs get the cup. But, with all their offensive talent, be it Oilers or Avs, Tampa is going to have a walk over, more or less like it went with Florida. Now it seems that the table is set for the bolts.
I was glad to see Avs win series and hopefully take out the oilers next but man what a heartbreaker for blues to lose with 5 seconds left. I felt bad for them but then glad cry baby Binnington can hit the golf links now
I have to think the Avs go into the WCF with the better preparation. Beating a well-rounded and skilled Blues team should give the Avs a lot of confidence.
I'm with you.... personally I feel the blues are a better team than the Oilers are.... but that dont mean anything it's going to be a battle... but I'm an Avs fan and they're a beast so Avs will get it done in 4 games with one overtime winner in Edmonton.....the round 2 monkey is off their back now so look out NHL this avalanche is just starting..... ok maybe game 5 because McDavid is crazy good....LET'S GO AVS.....so happy for you guys.... watch MacKinnon on bench after the goal... shows him seeing it go in before it went in lol... he willed it into the net like yoda or something lol... then after the handshakes as he goes towards the bench you can just see the weight of round 2 just falling of him as his body language is priceless.....
Everyone backs in allowing them all kinds of open ice. That goal was scored by the Blues if you think about it. Just watch the video. Fours guys right in front of the net and all that open ice.
Going to be a great Western Conference finals in the west. McDavid, Draisaitl, and Nugent-Hopkins for Edmonton and McKinnon, Makar, Kardi, Rantanen, and Landeskog for Colorado, lots of star power in this series. And if the Rangers can come back and win game 6 and 7, the Eastern Conference finals will be lit too. Tampa Bay trying to 3-peat with all of their stars and the Rangers with all of their studs. Would be the best Conference finals an a long time. Carolina is a really good team also, they just don't have the big stars the other 3 teams have.
I didn't believe it happened. I asked my mom on Saturday "did that really happen did we, we kick the blues out and after 20 years make it to the western conference finels" she said your not dreaming, we did it with 5 seconds left in the game.
Blues lacked attention to defensive detail at critical times...first in game 5 letting McKinnon work up a head of steam from 200 feet away with Blues players turning their backs on him, letting him go by and no one getting in front of him or knocking him off the puck... then they do it again with 15 seconds left in their season 6:48.....Blues #25 goes lazy stick poking instead of separating the player from the puck, allowing him to motor up the ice and eventually get a dangerous shot on goal. If Blues #25 plays like his season is on the line, the play gets disrupted 150 feet away and the game goes into overtime.
Then the blackout happens and having to find a feed elsewhere totally secret to bypass these stupid regulations by the NHL and big cable and satellite companies
Husso was the reason Blues had a chance this game. He was unreal, and seemingly unbeatable at times. If he had played like that after the Binnington hit, it would be the Avs forcing a game 7 right now instead.
With the Avs losing Game 5 despite having a 3 goal lead and losing in OT must have been painful for them, this win makes it so sweet AND on St Louis ice B-) GO AVS!!
It was 2-2 when I went into the kitchen for a while.... When I came back...... It was 3-2.... I will forever regret going into the kitchen just to miss a series-winning goal....
In order to get far in the playoffs, the bottom six had to come through. They did tonight. They are the 3 stars of the game. Cogliano, Helm and O’Connor were outstanding. They put so much pressure on the Blues that Bednar kept them in more than the third line. There was a moment in the game where their offensive aggression forced Leddy to play nearly 4 minutes straight. This resulted in a rebound goal from Compher. Landeskog and Helm stepped up their face off game by winning 15 out of 21 attempts combined. Husso can only stop so much when the Avs nearly doubled the Blues in shots. Bednar switched off Newhook for Burakovsky. He registered an assist in Compher’s 1st goal. Manson, who overreached on Schenn earlier that gave Kyrou a wide open one timer, made the biggest block of his Avalanche career by denying Kyrou a PP goal. Kuemper needs to donate his playoff check to him because he saved his behind. Helm did his best impression of Bozak tonight and gave the Avs a unforeseen victory. No one could have predicted that this is how the game would have ended. 20 years. I have waited 20 years for them to come back into legit contention. This franchise went through a lot of struggles. Constant rotation of coaches, stars demanding trades, and the passing of Pierre Lacroix are just some examples. There were also a lot of highs too. The drafting of high caliber players (Landeskog, Rantanen, Mackinnon and Makar), making high quality trades (Toews, Kadri, Kuemper, Manson and Lehkonen), and overhauling the front office (Sakic and Bendar) lead the Avs back into Cup contention. A lot of hard lessons were learned. I bring this up because demons can be conquered when you learn to accept your flaws. I am talking to you, Toronto Maple Leafs. This was an emotionally draining series that involved a lot of drama. Both fanbases can play the “What If” game all they want, but it is not going to change anything. Injuries are part of the game. The Blues will bounce back. I will say this about their fans. Majority of them were very respectful tonight when Kadri touched the puck. I applaud them for being civil. As for the small vocal Blues homers in youtube, let this be the second straight year where the Avs humble you and will continue to do so until you respect your opponent. Some key takeaways from the series. Line changes have to be tighter. There were several scenarios where the Avs were punished due to a poor line change. Makar and Rantanen needs to show up. The Oilers are coming off an endorphin high from winning 4 straight against the Flames. The Avs needs their stars to show up to match their firepower. Lastly, they need to play without fear when they have the lead. They cannot have another game 5 meltdown again. The Avs have 3 days to prepare. 8 wins achieved. 8 more to go.
