Nick Paul scored both of the Lightning's goals, and Tampa Bay defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1 in Game 7 to advance to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
As a non-Leafs fan, even I'm starting to feel the frustration. At this point getting out of the first round in this lifetime is going to feel like a Cup win for Leafs fans.
Aye, cardinal rule of nature: what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Leafs came back stronger after that embarrassing Habs series, gotta believe they will come out stronger this time too.
There have been too many once in a lifetime events in the past decade. Wars, pandemics, natural disasters. But there's one thing we can count on staying the same. The Leafs getting eliminated in the first round.
Can't wait 8 years from now for the Leafs' to be 100% removed from the Stanley Cup bands. First OG Six team to have this done. The Maple Leafs also have the longest cup drought in NHL history beating the Rangers 54 years, now with 55.
@@davoshaunessy3428 the leafs been blowing 1st rounds their entire history. In the first 50 years (with only 6 teams) they could only make it past 15 times…😂😂 those odds suck
@@Mr.O-Town Ikr. And it's so hilarious how Ottawa can actually win more than one playoff series, and they haven't made it since their cinderella prevail run in 2017
Let's be honest: They're making the playoffs these days. That's already a victory. We went through 12 years of nothing prior to drafting Matthews. Making the playoffs is considered a Stanley Cup win in Toronto because it means they finished in the upper half of the league for a change.
@@NickShelson mathews played well. Marker played well also. They're just obviously missing some muscle/grit on the team. I appreciate mathews stepping up with some hits. Someone had too.
@@user-xg6sx5ev9u No they wouldn’t have, they would have lost to Boston easily, Carolina, Pittsburg easily, New York, Washington, and maybe the panthers. And everyone in the west, they’ll never win a playoff series again in our lifetimes.
I got no problem with the leafs. It's Millen, Simpson, and all the other super smarmy homers that surround this team that I can't stand. Drink the tears and enjoy it.
Pretty cool when you can punch Giordano in the face or trip Nylander in front of the ref without getting called...especially after the zebras decide to call off a tying goal and allow you to win by one because your player skated into someone going in a straight line
Thank them for what once again crushing the dreams of leafs fans causing many including myself to not have the energy to continue with this I ask you again thank you for what
As a Sens fan! We traded Jason Spezza years ago for a prospect named Nick Paul. We still love Spezza, always will....but we traded Paul at the deadline and he eliminated SPEZZA and the Leafs tonight! Poetic!
@@iliekgaems2626 Sens have won 7 playoff series since 2004, including a Finals appearance and eliminating the defending champ Bolts in 2006, 4 games to 1. Leafs are beneath that, easily.
Leafs: Won the first game Lightnings: Won the second game Leafs: Won the third game Lightnings: Won the fourth game Leafs: Won the fifth game Lightnings: Won the sixth game Lightnings: Let us win this game and we’ll let you win the 3 next game Leafs: Ok, deal! Wait, What?
For the past few years they're just built for the regular season, otherwise they fail on that too... Just like my Canucks, who unfortunately suck at everything right now...
2005-2012 they didn’t make the playoffs 2014-2016 they didn’t make the playoffs 2017-22 6 years n still haven’t gotten out the first rd // washington boston cbj boston montreal lightning 4 of those teams made the finals
Cal Foote is impressing me over the last few games I've watched in this series. very reliable and hi iq guy back there. I remember the play he made behind his own net in game 6 during OT when he was under pressure and had the where with all to bank it off the back of the net to himself and escape the pressure.
The fact that no one is talking about that ridiculous call on Holl is crazy.. that goal makes this a 2-2 game going into OT at home.. crazy to think the refs had that much impact. Congrats to the bolts..
No one is talking about the lightning player holding Muzzin’s stick on the second goal either. They called back a Leaf goal due to interference that directly resulted in a goal, but when the Lightning did the same they turned a blind eye. Brutal.
Im still proud of my guys -Leafs fan here btw. To the Montreal canadien fans the Leafs went up against the two-time Stanley cup champions and only lost 4-3 in the series when the Montreal canadiens made the Stanley cup final they got their asses handed to them 4-0 in the series Tampa kicked their ass . good job guys better luck next year.
|This has got nothing to do with Ballard..This is all about faceless corporate greed. Easy to blame Ballard because he was the face of ownership..Who owns the Leafs today? Who are U going to blame?
As a Lightning fan I have to say Toronto is the best team we played in these last 3 cup runs. I believed in my team but I was scared at how fast Toronto can score. Never in that series did I think we truly figured them out and were always playing catch up. Vassy stole a few games and that was the difference. That team has all the pieces like we did since 2017-2018 we just couldn't get over the hump we would run into a great Pittsburg or Washington team and break our hearts. Toronto is a scary team I hope we never have to play them again in the playoffs next year , god help anybody that does.
and in turn tampa are the only team i respect that the leafs have ever played in the playoffs (not counting columbus and washington lol) i saw this live, tampa were just a little better unlike boston who were always just a little dirtier
Another lightning fan here, we’ve likely got a rematch to prepare for. Hopefully we’ll be able to come out on top again, but man, it’s gonna be a crazy matchup for sure.
I feel the winner of this series will make it all the way to the final. GG Toronto, still room to grow but taking the back to back Cup champions to a game 7 that was a one-goal game is very impressive.
I wonder where that one goal went. Surely it didn't get called off cause one of Tampa's player skated into someone right ? How brutal would that be for a game 7 ending
I think this series took a lot of toll on Tampa including an injury to Point. Add to the fact that the Panthers had a way easier time with the Capitals. I’d give the edge to Florida.
@@charlisantini3403 Lol it is what is it. I get that refs cant call everything and they sure are good at missing calls when it matters most...but they call that. He did not go out of his way to hit him, did not change speed, didnt do anything and they accidentally made contact. But then Giordano gets punched in the face on the following PK, and Nylander gets tripped in the third on the PP, and that's fine? I dont cheer for the Leafs but this is just brutal. No wonder some fans are pissed off when the officiating is so inconsistant and changes the course of games like this one
@@SpergerKing I’d like to visit the pizza box one day. It looks like a great place to catch a game. Detroit’s downtown in general looks like things are really coming together. All the wings need to do is fix the horn.
You must realize the oilers would have a very small chance of winning against the leafs. Real comfy playing the kings huh. Anyways, the leafs will never win a cup in my lifetime.
it's only a matter of time before Matthews leaves Toronto via a trade or as a free agent and goes to play for the Coyotes. Sounds crazy but it will happen.
There are 3 certain things in life. Death Taxes The Toronto Maples Leafs choke year after year! The New York Knicks and Dallas Cowboys of Hockey! The Maple Leafs are a cursed franchise! Cup free since 1967 and ongoing!!!!
Familiar things are a comfort to us all during this pandemic. This includes friends, family and watching the Maple Leafs lose in the first round of the playoffs. Thank you Toronto for providing some normality to our lives in these uncertain times.
Now witb 55 years and no cups, the Maple Leafs now have the longest cup drought in hockey history. (1967- Present) (This was formerly held by the Rangers, 1940-1994)
Hey l think somewhere in here the. = Northstars and the Wild fit into the mix of NON CUP YRS for Pro hockey teams = And we been to only 2 Finals = NO CUPS
@@paulman9989 That doesn't count. We're talking about a drought since WINNING A CUP, not about a city or region that's never won any. Toronto has now earned the moniker MAPLE LAFFS (LAUGHS) because they're truly a joke of a franchise.

Regardless of what anyone says, the Leafs lost again....or should I say their fans lost again. The players and management will enjoy their well paid holiday.
A lot of leafs fans are blaming the refs, Tampa didn’t even have their best player in this game. Paul got sent head first into the net and their was no call either. You can’t go 0-10 in elimination games and blame the refs.
@@aljoriz1424 No there wasn’t. It’s not the nba, you can’t check a player who doesn’t have the puck. Tampa probably would have won by more with Point on the ice.
Since (and including) 2013, the Leafs are 19-17 when they don't have a chance to clinch, but 0-10 when they do have a chance to clinch. When it matters most, the Leafs crumble, lmao.
18:23 Tampa Bay - Nick Paul (Ross Colton, Cal Foote) 33:25 Toronto - Morgan Rielly (Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner) 36:32 Tampa Bay - Nick Paul (Unassisted)
Leafs fan here. Congratulations Lightning on the series win. Best of luck the rest of the playoffs and I hope you achieve your goal of a three peat. I am saying this for good sportsmanship and I want to set an example to fans who who just want to put down their opponents
The Leafs need to look at the playoffs backwards: You play the best team in the FIRST round (the defending champs) and then it gets progressively EASIER from there.
The lightning’s defense was impenetrable. The leafs couldn’t muster a challenging shot when they needed to. Vasselsky saw everything. Leafs had no answer for Tampa’s wall of shot blockers.
I’m neutral ,,,,the lightning are the team of the decade and maple leafs are very close to a major breakout , need another sniper wing , a defenseman and probably a goalie
Please, habs had no business making it past round one last year, if that wasn't painfully clear after this year's performance I dunno what to say to you.
As a Leafs fan, this hurts, but not terribly. I’m happy with my team. They put it all out there on the ice and I can’t ask for much more. One day they’ll get it done.
I’m just surprised I didn’t see any jerseys on the ice lol. But in all seriousness, Nick Paul is an absolute beauty, I knew he would be a playoff difference maker when we got him.
the best line about Paul was during the second intermission on the American broadcast that features Gretzky..It was Nick Paul is a modern era Gretzky. Think about another famous game 7 loss for the Leafs at Maple Leaf gardens.
@@techwitoutspex Did you not see the Leafs defenceman push Nick Paul into Campbell? Nick Paul was never going to run into him until then. You really think Paul wanted to commit suicide and barrel into the net like that? It was more dangerous for Nick Paul than it was for Jack Campbell. Maybe your guys shouldn’t push players into their own goaltender.
Leafsnet and TSN are crying. Seeing Toronto clubs to struggle and fail seems entertaining. As a Habs Fan, never hated the Leafs or any other club for that matter. The problem with Toronto these past years is the squad not getting over the Mental Hump and the media pressure.
Sharks had some seriously good teams to over the years and at least you made it to at least one final. We can’t even get out of the first round, hardest team to cheer for
Yeah Marner and the top guys were not the problem in this series it's the defensive mental lapses that cost you the series. This game 7 shouldn't have even happened if Kerfoot had his head on straight in game 6.
@@LucicPower Marner had 97pts this season. It's the Tavares contract that's too high 11 mill for 76pts. That's just below Nylander and he's only making 7.5 mill. Not to mention I hear lots of leaf fans who want Nylander out which is odd.
