In 2001 I met Dr Norman Geisler at Cornerstone Festival.. The question was asked: What do you believe is the best Bible translation? Dr Geisler responded "Best literary translation: King James. Best literal translation: NASB. Best blend of the two: NKJV." I tend to agree.

I grew up on the NKJV and have many passages memorized in it. It still holds a special place in my heart. Yet, over the years, mainly due to my NKJV Bible falling apart, I have switched to the NAS95. I will admit, I was originally turned on to the NASB because one of my favorite seminary professors used it. I am now firmly in the NAS95 camp due to me buying a premium Bible in that translation.

I love the NKJV.. it is very much a modernized version of the King James version but does not eliminate any verses. It is beautiful and easy to read.

I have nothing bad to say about the NASB, but I am an NKJV fan. I was raised going to church but made my own personal commitment to faith at 14 years old. That year I bought my first Bible with my own money, a KJV “Old” Scofield reference Bible. 45 years later, I still have it, packed with scribbles and highlighting from teenage me. It’s a cherished thing. So I cut my teeth on the KJV in terms of study a memorization. I still love it. But at Bible college in the late 1970s, I encountered my first NASB (the original 1977 edition). I loved it immediately. I still have THAT Bible also (this is the value of overspending a bit and getting good quality paper and binding). But a few years later, the NKJV came out, and since the church I was attending preached from the KJV, it was easier to follow along from the NKJV. Later I attended a church that read from the 1984 NIV and that became my daily driver (my wife still favors that translation). Suddenly it was follow the bouncing translation. Which NASB do you have? 77 or 95? NIV? Is that 84, TNIV, or 2011? ESV? Don’t EVEN get me started. And the NKJV, like the KJV, just was let stand. Perfect? No, not at all. But not constantly changing either, so I didn’t feel like they were just trying to sell me a new Bible every couple years. Today the church I work for, and where I serve as an elder, uses the ESV. I don’t hate it, but when teaching I often have to say “I don’t think this is the best choice of words, I think what the Greek or Hebrew means is...” and give the more nuanced meaning. Nine times out of ten, when this happens and I check the NKJV, the word chosen by the latter will be the one I would prefer. So, I have no beef at all with the NASB, but because it fits my formative years of reading and memorization, because it is not constantly updating, and because it’s generally a very accurate translation (and bonus, I like the Byzantine texts) - I’m an NKJV guy. But I don’t mind you NASB fans. I can dig out my phone or tablet and follow along using an electronic copy. :)

So, you love them both, and it was the KJV that followed your formative years. NKJV is the straight heir of the latter, so no wonder you like NKJV better than NASB.

I bounced back and forth in my early Christian years.. in churches I have been in.. years ago they preached from the KJV or the NKJV...for about 4 years I was a NKJV onlyist... when my daughter graduated... from Christian College I gave her.. a NKJV bible... but I regret that decision now... two years after she graduated that I had given her this bible.. I realized that the KJV was the best bible... after searching a lot of scripture and comparing them.. the KJV by far out shined all others.. the church I attend now preaches from the NASB.... I detested it at first... but now I see the NASB as being way better than the NKJV... just not as good as the KJV.. I could list the hundreds of reasons why I am a KJV fan.. but anyone who is serious about time alone in their word... would be able to realize why the KJV is far superior on their own... I do not want to waste my time or efforts.. on any who cannot figure this out on their own.. as that shows me you are not very serious about studying the bible deeply anyway..

@@alessbritish228 I have found fault with the NKJV... because in many places the NKJV has changed the intended meaning of the verse where as the NASB has retained it... mind you I am STILL NOT ok with the NASB.. I would Never choose it over the KJV... here is one place where the verse was changed for no reason.. or it was misinterpreted by the translators.... Haggai 1:10.... kjv " Therefore the heaven OVER you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit." nkjv "Therefore the heavens ABOVE you withhold the dew, and the earth withholds its fruit." nasb "Therefore, BECAUSE OF you the sky has withheld its dew and the earth has withheld its produce." asv Therefore FOR YOUR SAKE the heavens withhold the dew, and the earth withholdeth its fruit. rsv " Therefore the heavens above you have withheld the dew, and the earth has withheld its produce." notice how both the RSV and the NKJV fall into the trap of location.. when actually God was telling Israel thru the prophet Haggai the reason.. for the withholding of dew.. God was telling Israel it is their own fault that their crops were drying up.. not explaining where the dew was being kept.. here is another place... Song of Solomon 3:9 kjv King Solomon made himself a chariot of the wood of Lebanon. nasb King Solomon has made for himself a sedan chair From the timber of Lebanon. nkjv " Of the wood of Lebanon Solomon the King Made himself a palanquin:" why did the NKJV translators use the word "palanquin?... isn't the NKJV supposed to be an easier to understand bible?.. is that NOT what was stated on the box and inside this bible when it first came out?.. they were trying to make a great bible better?... how is changing the word "sedan chair or chariot to palanquin,... better?.. this is going on throughout the NKJV is hundreds of places misinterpretations.. un common words... basically it was all a lie just to pull people away from the kjv... I do Not like being lied to... I will show you much more if you would like..

I have used both but am solidly in the NKJV camp now. One of my major frustrations for the supposed super literal NASB is the multitude of times they placed a perfectly understandable literal reading in the margins and paraphrased in the text. Don’t understand that at all. The NKJV also gives you in the notes where the texts (NU, Majority, and TR) differ from each other and in what way they do. Last the NKJV just reads much better to me and lends itself better to memorization for me. Just my opinion. To each his or her own. I like the tone you take with regards to different translations. There is no reason for division and bitterness just because someone prefers a translation different than someone else's translation of choice.

I'm a very inquisitive person so the NASB is the wave for me. The fact that it is almost exact word for word translation is what makes me stick with it. The passages you read you said there was small differences between the two but I saw major differences. To each their own I do like the way NKJV sounds but I like to stay as close to the word as possible

I have read from both translations. I prefer the NKJV over the NASB. Reason being is the NKJV sounds more traditional, and every so many months or years they update the NASB. Meaning they change wording. I'm not one who likes change. It's nice to be able to read a Bible that has been the same for the past 38 years. I really like how it reads and I hope they don't screw up the NKJV with any unnecessary updates

English is not my mother tongue, however I like the beauty of NKJV, it's easier for me to memorise verses. I use NASB for studying and understanding the scriptures. Both are indispensable to me. I also like ESV and MEV for mordern English reading and recitation.

Thank you for another excellent review, Tim. Being hunkered down at home like so many others due to the coronavirus, and having a lot of time on my hands, I decided to re-read the Bible cover-to-cover. But instead of choosing my favorite translation, the NKJV, I decided to use the NASB. So I purchased a Cambridge Clarion NASB to do so. Normally, I dislike single-column paragraph-oriented Bibles, but the Clarion is an excellent readers Bible and I find that I can read five or more chapters quite easily without even realizing it. I have found the NASB to be quite literal and accurate, but still pleasant to read. As a result, I have a newfound respect for the NASB and would recommend it to anyone looking for an additional translation to enhance their study of the Bible. But like you, the NKJV still retains the beauty, sound, and feel of the KJV to me. So therefore, if I were to be stranded on a desert island and could only have one Bible, it would have to be the NKJV.

@@drtruthseeker8400 I'm not into name calling but, I'm not overwhelmed either. First, the symbol that the publisher used when the NKJV first came out has no bearing on the work of the translators as translators are not in charge of the publisher's decision. Second, the article talks about how the NKJV uses Sheol instead of the word Hell in some OT passages. The first problem with that argument is that Sheol is the actual Hebrew word that is used and secondly it does mean the grave. For example David's concern in Psalm 116:3 wasn't that he would go to Hell it was that his enemies would prevail and take him to the grave. The biggest problem I have with KJVO movement isn't that you love the KJV it's not even that you think it's the only valid translation its, the lack of graciousness and the pride that comes across in so many conversations I have had with people in that camp. I have friends that are KJVO and they're full of the Spirit and grace and make there case from Hebrew and Greek, and the differences in the Greek manuscripts. I mean no offense in challenging you and I challenge you to take no offense. Just do a study yourself and come to your own conclusion rather than just citing what other people have found. I have studied this subject for 15 years and came to my own conclusions. God bless!

In many cases the NKJV is actually more literal than the NASB, in fact, I would even venture to say that it is more literal than the NASB, and it reads better too (R Grant Jones did a fantastic job on the literal comparison of a couple translations). I've been trying to figure out why people say the NASB was more literal, because I didn't see it. The supplied words in the NKJV makes for better English, which is why the italics are important, without them you wouldn't have known that they were not original. That being said, without the supplied words, the NKJV becomes stilted and difficult to read. Also the more literal rendering of the NASB are actually in the footnotes, not in the text like the NKJV. There is also the difference in textual basis for the NT which makes comparison of the two difficult. The NKJV is my go to translation, I cut my teeth on it, it was my first ever Bible back in the early 90s at about age 8 or 9, it was Gideons NT Bible, and no matter what I've read, I've always come back to it. The NASB has grown on me too and I use them both now for comparison. In my mind the best two Bible translations, one TR and one CT.

Thank you for your fresh perspective, I mean Frish perspective.:) As someone who grew up on the old king James, the new king James retains the poetic beauty and force that is lacking in many other translations. I use the new American standard for reference. And once in a while I like it better but then again it’s been revised so many times.

Keep the great videos coming!!" and what do you consider the shortcomings of the KJV... that you would Not even consider that translation in your list?.. would it have anything to do with Frisch's perspective of the KJV?.. I hope not... I would never base whether I use one translation over another over anything on anyone's you tube videos.... translation decisions should be made through personal diligence... there are a lot of KJV haters out here...that is a fact.. and if they're Not haters... they are distrusters.. which to me...seems farcical

Incidentally, after my original comment 2 years ago I settled on the CSB and my primary and preaching translation after much prayerful study and consideration.

@@jeffcarlson3269 - The CSB is an OUTSTANDING translation. It is both accurate and readable. It uses gender accuracy, not gender neutrality. I spent a long time researching and praying about which translation to land on. I use a variety of translations in study but the CSB is my fave by far.

I must admit that the NKJV is an easier read. I read primarily from the NASB, and I find myself referring to a number of other versions when I read passages that don't immediately make sense to me, primarily through the Bible app. It's such a convenience to be able to download all those versions and compare to bolster my understanding.

Thank you, Tim. I think your comments are spot on. I'm fond of both translations but feel the NKJV sounds better most of the time. I read scriptures based on the Textus Reptus and the Critical text but find no serious difference in doctrine. I read a comparison recently that said out of the entire bible all the differences would fit on half a page.

@Christopher LP I hope you are still on track with your NASB 95... the church I started attending last year uses this... I was not a fan at first but have grown to halfway accept it... for a few years I only used the NKJV... but after doing several studies with it... I realized how much the NKJV violated the verses of the KJV... modernization is one thing.. but some parts of the NKJV were completely re written only to suit the biases of the translators.. and what THEY thought the verses should say.... this, I was NOT having.... My preferred text is from the KJV.. but.. I occasionally read thru the NASB ..just for comparison.... I suppose.. f one is Not going to read from the KJV.. the NASB is ok... I hope today you are still with the NASB 95.. or even better the KJV...

@@alessbritish228 the NASB is Not lacking any verses.... I only use the NASB because my church preaches from it.. I have spoken to the pastor about the faults of the NASB... as well.. the ONLY reliable bible that is complete.. with the intended meanings of the verses is the KJV... IMO.. the NIV IS missing verses however or they are footnoted... among these are for starters (1) Matthew 17:21. (2) Matthew 18:11. (3) Matthew 23:14. (4) Mark 7:16. (5 & 6) Mark 9:44 & 9:46. (7) Mark 11:26. (8) Mark 15:28. (9) Luke 17:36. (10) Acts 8:37 there are at least 6 more verses that are dropped or footnoted in the NIV

@@alessbritish228 I believe in the KJV as well.. I trust the KJV more than the NASB AND MORE THAN THE NKJV... but the reasons vary... as you pointed out.. I do not trust the NASB simply for the fact that as you said.. some verses such as the ones you mentioned.. do not contain the complete verse or they have shortened it.. and have gone the route of lessening the Diety of Christ by doing so... I do not like the NKJV because as I have said.. they have more than just modernized the KJV they have tampered with verses and re written verses unnecessarily.. both are guilty of changing the KJV without reason.. whether it be the unnecessary word tampering of the NKJV.. or omitting parts of verses... which is WRONG.. on both parts IMO.. that is why .. when I am at home I ONLY read from the KJV... look at Genesis 1:1... both the NKJV and the NASB.. use the word "heavens".. instead of "heaven".. 1 Cor 1:18 both use the wordage "being saved".. instead of "are saved".. but one of the biggest gripes I have is for the NKJV being supposedly Just an updated KJV...is the unnecessary verse tampering... if a bible proposes to be just like another bible.. then it should ONLY change or re write verses in order to make the new version mor understandable correct...? look what the NKJV did unnecessarily with Revelation 4:11 KJV "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created." NJKV "“You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.” NASB “Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.” notice how both the NASB and the NKJV... changed the verse taking out the reason WHY we were created.. and put in the actual thing done but Not giving us the clarity as to what our purpose is as the KJV does.. translation that is supposed to be an updated copy of the KJV... what I am saying .. for a translation like the NKJV to be an update of the KJV... this just seems more beguiling and insidious to me.. the other translations I expect THAT from but not from a

Acts 2:38 KJV Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. NKJV Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and LET every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. ASV And Peter said unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. NASB 77 Peter said to them, “Repent, and LET each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. NASB95 Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. notice the word "Let was added to the NKJV... ?.. why?... what this word "let" does is change the phrasing of that verse from a command from God Peer was giving.. to an act of permissiveness... you might say to your self.. well that is Not such a big deal since the main idea.. is still there... that is why I included Both versions of the NASB... the NASB Lockman foundation Must have thought it was important enough to omit the word "let".. from their later editions...

Benumbed... As much as I have tried to like the NASB this kind of stuff is what kept me away. There's no way you can tell me that using this practically unused word was the best way to translate the Hebrew here for an English speaking person. For all the praise being poured out on the ESV and those who gush over the NASB I say the NKJV meets all the criteria these folks say they require. When you add the footnotes and marginal readings, etc. you can't go wrong with the NKJV as a legitimate translation of the Bible for today. Oh, I it doesn't need continuous revisions and upgrades like the ESV. Just saying.

When I was young, our church used the King James Version. The phraseology of the NKJV is similar enough to the KJV that, like you, verses in that translation sound pleasing to my ear. Thanks for yet another interesting comparison video.

I totally agree with your assessment. My two favorite versions are the NASB & NKJV (with the ESV being a close 3rd). I really like the NKJV wording, as it does follow closely to the KJV, and with me being 66 years old, I just like the way it sounds, BUT I am a huge John MacArthur fan and have listened to him for 45 years, so with that said, I generally carry the NASB with me most of the time, because it is the the English word-for-word translation. I was raised Roman Catholic, so I was not a Bible reader until I was 26 years old. And I never attached to the KJV. When I attended a church where the pastor used the NASB I found he was so often having to explain the text. And often his explanation sounded a lot like the NIV, so I got an NIV. One of the other reasons for picking a translation is the study bibles available. Back in the mid 80’s, the NIV study Bible was better than most. I recently purchased a Spirit-filled life Bible in the NKJV and I am using it. I find that for the most part the NKJV and the NIV are very close. The ESV isn’t much different either. So I don’t see what all the fuss is about these translations.

I find that sometimes when the NASB has the literal rendering as a footnote, as opposed to being in the text itself, the NKJV quite often seems to render the literal word in its actual text. Plus I prefer the sound of NKJV. I don't like having to constantly look for the footnote in the NASB for the "Lit" word, especially as it claims to be the "most literal", if it is the most literal then why so many literal renderings in the footnotes instead of text.... I find the NKJV is quite often more literal. Although I still appreciate the NASB to use as comparison etc. I'm not putting it down. However if I want a very literal bible to refer to there are some very literal ones to use which are so much more literal than NASB. Eg Youngs, Darby, Smiths literal, Emphasized bible, Wuest, Jonathan Mitchel NT, and probably others I may not know about...even Amplified bible is helpful

Thanks for this video,personally I am biased to NKJV but I like them both.I first bought NKJV but later after I was given a leaflet critical of the NASV or NASB so from my meager allowance that time I saved enough so that I can buy myself a copy of NASV and see for myself why its heavily criticized.After that I became a "secret" NASV user even though the KJVonly claims its based on the corrupt Westcott and Hort supported manuscript.Recently I was given a book Serious Omissions on the NIV and the author wrote in one chapter Errors in the New King James Version.The author has some reasons but then like I said I still prefer the NKJV for personal reasons and it helps me in my Bible reading and like you said in another video I use it as supplement to the KJV.By the way the book Omissions on the NIV is part of a bigger book titled Answers by Keith Piper and is published in Australia.

Mostly we use KJV and NKJV because in our national language in the Philippines they translated KJV in Tagalog and my mother tongue they translated KJV to my Ilocano dialect. So I will choose NKJV as a simplified English version for me. NASB, I can only use as my Reference Bible coz it is not popular in my country.

This is fascinating.I think that the NKJV is very similar to the ESV, since they both preserve the majestic style of language of the KJV to some degree, except for the fact that they are based on different manuscripts.I actually prefer the ESV, but I would appreciate if you could compare the two.Thanks bro.

I agree with your analysis. I often use the KJV as well as the NKJV for public preaching because of the way it sounds and flows, of course my Pastor is real big on using the NKJV over the KJV for public reading because of the more modernized English, and I don't disagree, but for my personal private study and reading I would say I spend more time in the NASB than anything else, and the KJV would come in second behind that, but I do appreciate the NKJV especially considering the majority of it is translated out of the Textus Receptus.

Love my MacArthur NKJV study bible. It's fallen apart so need to replace. Was thinking of MacArthur NASB study Bible but I love how the NKJV reads. Also have a copy of the NASB nonstudy bible ...do not care for the 2020 NASB. thanks for the reviews!

My personal preference is for the New King James, although I do have a New American Standard. As both are formal equivalent translations, both are better for in depth study. I just prefer the TR readings more.

Great video! My verdict is that the NKJV is better for reading poetic books of the Bible e.g. Psalms, Proverbs, Job...and the NASB is better for passages that deal with fundamental doctrine, e.g. John 1:1-14 and large chunks of Romans.

Feeble is a physical state where Benumb could refer to either emotional or physical states. I love sitting on my bed with a bunch of translations comparing and contrasting them. Thank you for all of your videos I really enjoy them :)

Dana, I would say that feeble could be emotional also. They are nuanced differently. Benumbed, to me, means a lack of sensation. Numb, in other words. Feeble implies weakness. I think they carry SLIGHTLY different meanings, but nothing controversial. But I will say that I’ve known people who were physically robust but emotionally or intellectually feeble, for one reason or another. My two cents worth. And I agree 100% about comparing translations! That is, quite honestly, a must for studying. When translations choose a different word, you should take notice and investigate further. When I see the same words used, I’m more confident that I have the correct meaning, without doubt.

That is the technical aspect of the Hebrew language and the NASB translators try to cature the true meaning..it csn take more than a half dozen words in engish to capture the meaning of one Hebrew word.And that is exactly what one would expect to find in a formal equivency translation..The NKJV translators could of still used their translation philosophy but used slightly more specific words in places however there is also a reading level translators are at times trying to maintain RU-vid-stephen sage: Defending the Faith

My 1985 Nelson NKJV, double-column, center column reference, wide margin is my daily carry bible. It now has roughly 30+ years of edits, notes, changes, etc. Its a MY translation. But recently I have also found favor in the 1599 Geneva Bible minus the outdated notes.

Looking at Psalm 139:3, the NKJV uses the word "comprehend" and the NASB "scrutinize". When compared to the KJV which has "compassest" and the original Hebrew word זָרָה-zara, it has, as both translations indicate in the margin, the meaning "to winnow", or "to sift". The NKJV translates it in more passively than the NASB and the original. The NASB while it is more active is still not as active as the original would indicate. In addition it appears to have a more negative connotation than the original and the NKJV. While, there is no comparison with the KJV, it takes the most active rendition of that word. Ironically it uses a word that has the opposite meaning to winnowing, i.e. encompassing rather than separating and yet even so conveys a meaning closer to the original of guiding a person along his path. This verse isn't just saying God looks on with understanding, but acts as a shepherd to direct our paths, (cf. Eph. 2:10). There is a separating of the wheat from the chaff, a sanctification or a gradual separation of ourselves from sin and a directing us along the narrow path. Needless to say, I use both translations, I use the NASB more often for study but I always have the NKJV and KJV to hand.

My main translation has been ESV for about 8 years. But I really prefer the sound of the NKJV. But when I check the Greek and Hebrew, the ESV tends to be more accurate. I think NKJV has sacrificed accuracy for trying to retain the sound of the KJV. Shame really.. In truth, these two translations are very similar.

Great comparison. I’ve heard from several sources that the NASB does not actually deserve its reputation as the most literal. Do you have an opinion on that? It could make for a good video. Have you ever thought about reviewing the MEV? It is very, very similar to the NKJV, but with slightly more modern verbiage, and without all the footnotes everywhere about how other manuscripts read (which some like, but others think is distracting). I’m probably ordering one for myself soon. Thanks.

I’m following along in the KJV and have a question. Why didn’t they use “manner” in place of “so” in John 3:16 like they did in 1 John 3:1. After all, John did write both books.

I find that the NASB has more of an academic sound to it, while the NKJV sounds more archaic. I think the ESV is a good middle ground between the two: it sounds less stiff and pedantic than the NASB, and it sounds more modern and less "tribute band" than the NKJV. (It's that latter point that always turned me off from the NKJV. I'd rather listen to an old Elvis recording than go to a live performance by an Elvis impersonator, no matter how good that impersonator may be.)

Yikes NASB! The KJV has a special place in my heart as I cut my teeth in it for 10+ years. Then I added NIV 1984 since my new church was using it. Now I have Bible Acquisition Syndrome and have ESV CSB NLT NKJV MESSAGE. 🙂

Tim… No matter how many translations I try…I a;ways return to the NKJV…or the RSVCE… I love the traditions like sound of each… I have always said that I really don;t want Sacred Scripture to sound like every day English. Words from a 78yo Catholic…who grew up in the Methodist church, reading the KJV, and the RSV …. You might be interested to know that the Athenaeum’s of Ohio…a Catholic institution that housed the Seminary, Permanent Deaconate Program, and the Lay Pastoral Ministry Program (LAMP)…… requires everyone…in all three programs…to use the OXFORD Annotated RSV…They probably use the NRSV edition now, however. I spent six years at thevAthenaeum, and still,have my well used Oxford Annotated RSV …

Thanks for the info. One thing I've found odd in the NASB is it uses the word Booty several times referring to treasure or spoil. Was an interesting choice of words. I'm looking at getting a NKJV. Thanks for the info!

A lot of KJV only people like to trash the NKJV. That IS much reason for me to like it. I have acquired so many bibles recently that I spend more time feeling them or smelling them than reading them. I really like psalm 34 to 37 about how God fights for us. Ps 35.1 et al. And ps 34.7 about how the angel of the Lord camps around us..I have read KJV and that sounds like bible to me. So for today ..so far..I have moved NKJV from #4 yesterday to # 1 today. I have a new fondness for ESV in past 72 hours. SO maybe top 5 would be.. NKJV ESV NASB 95 CSB KJV Partly because NKJV is so popular that you can get almost any bible in it. Also I guess I think in KJV and NKJV will fit that thinking. And I am getting older and the less change the better.

In Proverbs 13:1. The word musar is from discipline, punishment or correction. Instruction is archaic for discipline but in modern day instruction is almost like teaching or a command.

On my continuing journey to God's Kingdom and reading of His word and studying with my fellow Christians, I do have the problem of having so many translations at hand. I say problem because I should read them more than "collect" them. And I do but not as much as I should. With that said, I have been lead ever more to the NKJV over the past years. Even during our study time, I find the NKJV speaks more to me than the NASB95. I do worry too much about if the version I am studying/reading from is truly of God's hand, THE correct translation. On that some page though, we are to trust and believe and have faith the our God and Christ wouldn't allow those of us that follow Christ to read what isn't from God. And to that, I believe we are to pray to have our eyes and ears open by Christ and the Holy Spirit and to have Him lead us the translation that truly speaks of Christ, His death and resurrection and placed at the right hand of our Holy Father God. For me, I am moved by the words from the NKJV the most. Not saying it is the ONLY and BEST but what God and Christ and the Holy Spirit has lead me to understand and hear Him when reading His word.

My thought is that I believe that the Word of Gid does not need to sound like everyday English in order to be inderdtoof. I think most readers are able to discern the meaning of words of phrases that are no longer used. It’s OK to have to think a little bit, now Ann’s then. Sacred Scripture in my should...in my opinion... be recognizable as being inspired, and special. I can certainly understand using a simpler style for children, or perhaps for someone who has never read a Bible.. That makes sense to me. However, millions of Christians have been inspired and brought to the Christian faith by thise lofty words snd phrases. OTIH, we need to understand that thecKing James, as well as other very old translations were certainly written in the common vernacular of the times in which they were written... so maybe we should do the same. Maybe we should not cling to what has become a traditional way of “hearing” Sacred Scripture....nah... I’m sticking with my NKJV. allowing myself to be inspired by what has become traditional Biblicsl language.

No reason you can’t read both. Read the NKJV if you like it and want a TR basis, and then cross check it with the NASB for the critical text. I personally use different translations for different purposes, but all as an expression of love for God

It's a small thing, but why would the NASB team choose "how great a love" when it's plain as day that it's literally "what kind of love"?? Any reader would be able to deal with that mild ambiguity. And they aren't shy about sticking to more literal word choices, and letting the reader decipher the meaning of a passage. Why would they change something like that? Not trying to nitpick too much. The NASB is really good

The best time to read the NASB is when you’re not in the hurry. I love reading it when I’m on a road trip or if I have nothing else better to do Hopefully the 2020 edition will be even better than this one
