@@basilboris@basilboris yes I can remember every line too. Atkinson, Rhys Jones, Mel Smith and Pamela Stephenson were a great foursone in satirical comedy. The scripting and acting were stunningly good.
Rowan Atkinson .. comedy genius with the right script. That glance he gives Rhys Jones, just before "cup cakes". Wonderful example of comic timing and acting.
WTF? where are all the comments??? this is without doubt, one of the greatest comedy sketches of all time----AND---so bloody relevant to today. Nothing changes does it.
@@FastTrack-1 they were obama spies for christsake, THEY BUGGED THE EFFING OVAL OFFICE. Bent FBI / CIA/ MSM, Democrap Clinton Gang, even the DOJ were bought. IF TRUMP IS ALLOWED---TO WIN AGAIN, HE WILL----FINISH THE JOB, BELEIVE IT.
@@MrDaiseymay Except every one of his “wild, conspiracy theory” claims are being proven correct. Obama was spying on the Trump campaign. The Clinton’s did collude with Ukraine to make up dirt on Trump. The Biden’s did sell the power of the Vice President to corrupt foreign entities for money.
Don't worry, when we're all out of resources the individuals who have held us back will find out they can't eat the money they made driving our species into the ground!
When alternatives to fossil fuel can compete (in reliability, efficiency and affordability), then dependence on oil will drop. The only way the govt can Make it happen is go full totalitarian. They've tried condemning, taxing, subsidizing...none of it works very well. There has to be demand and a quality product. That's reality. Now the wars and corruption are definitely central to govt. But sadly, this is human nature. Power corrupts. War and hatred will always be here. I honestly don't think much has really changed with humanity. It has been and always will be capable of violence, peace, greatness and insignificance...all at once. Everyone chooses their path. Ok I'll stop rambling
Why can't they put out the entire series on DVD already? All we've ever gotten was a "best of" DVD. This show was just brilliant and deserves another run.
@@fuzzyscarfandmittens4772 perhaps it's because it's when things didn't have to be politically correct and in order to not cause controversy they haven't released it
@@tomcooney2842 Nah, it's either due to money or the masters no longer being available. If the masters aren't available, because back then they were reused to record other things, then the show is lost. All we have are copies made by people who then upload them. That's part of the reason why some episodes of Classic Dr. Who are missing. The masters are gone and were reused for other shows. The other reason is money. They put out a "best of" DVD and then priced it too high. Then because it didn't sell they said, "nobody is going to buy a full season". I'd be willing to drop $100 on a complete series with liner notes and stuff but for a lot of people that simply is too much to pay. It's the same reason that they never put out a 4th season of "The Muppet Show" because the first three seasons didn't sell as well as they would have hoped. The market for the Muppetrs is there. But if you price a season at $60, most people aren't going to drop that kind of money on it. If there was a guaranteed way that they could make a profit off of it, they'd put the series out on DVD right away. Money is the only thing that these production companies care about.
Four years without the USA mass killing people in the Middle East and North Africa. You must have been so bored! But don't worry. Soon American soldiers will be killing and getting killed in Iran and Syria, so get your popcorn.
Griff Rhys Jones --the perfect "tails" of the coin of which "heads" is Rowan Atkinson. To act "tails" ....when the "heads" are Rowan Atkinson... To Mr Griff Rhys Jones : My full respect to You, Sir. Without You those sketches would be impossible.
Boy, we had some fun at Reagan's expense. Then again, we didn't think America would have a genuine MORON in the White House a few decades later. Next to Trump, Reagan now seems almost capable.
If only Trump had has a press secretary like Rowan Atkinsons' character: never letting him get a word in edgeways. What a much calmer period in history the closing years of the 2010's would have been.
+lee kay ---that's what I meant--'Nothing changes does it'. They are all puppets---bought and paid for by Big Banks and Corporations---the US Senate also. Democracy ? --my arse.
How many 'NAMES' do you want ? Huge multinational corps in the food industry, Car maker's etc etc , have political clout, they BUY senators. MPs , congressmen--by Lobbying for the interests in Parliament and Congress etc. ''I'll build a factory in YOUR country, ( thousands of Jobs) if you allow us to pay shit wages, no Unions, free land to build on etc etc OR we'll take it elsewhere--in other words --THEY shape Government Policy, and corrupt democracy. GEDDIT ?
ALL politicians are dumbass ignoramouses. They are guided by those faceless bastards behind the screens. How else to explain those moves from minister of Transport--to chancellor etc etc.
It's funny to see the comments comparing this to Trump when the typical complaint was that Trump talked TOO much. Meantime the chosen candidate if those making that comparison...the one who's NOT Trump (doesn't matter who it actually is, as long as it's not Trump)...has gone longer than any other president in nearly 90 years without holding a press conference. And, as a matter of fact, had the camera's cut off during an online meeting with democrats the moment he said he would take questions...depending on what someone offscreen he called "Nance" wanted him to do.
What I resent more than most things in modern times--is the cowardly collapse in our so-called media protection. They are all owned. During the BLIAR years in particular--the great comedy series like 'SPITTING IMAGE'' ,were desperately needed, AND--still are today. I sometimes wonder how they would have tackled the issues of today. Even basic impersonation shows like those by John Culshore have been banned, let alone great satire shows by Rory Bremner and the two Johns. They are needed more than ever.
At 1:36, Rowan says, "Excuse me, sir." The next thing I understand is, "if you only answered direct questions". I can't make out what he says in-between. Could you please tell me what he says there if you caught it?
***** I thank you from my heart for your help, all the more because it's come from a fellow learner of English :) What you wrote was not entirely accurate, but it was a step in the right direction. Now that I've listened to it again, I think the spokesman is saying: "It will be altogether more orthodox if you only answer direct questions."
Ha ha, Reagan seemed not quite on the ball but we didn't know it could get worse with Dubya Bush and then we never imagined it could get any worse than that and here comes Trump.
Rewatching this in 2020, it perversely reminds me of Joe Biden. After he won, it seems like everyone is talking about what Biden should do, but rarely do we actually hear Biden making the statements at all.
