I’m *engaged* and have been low key stressed about finding a “timeless” wedding dress. I saw a woman defend buying a trendy wedding dress, saying she got married in the 80s and had a VERY 80s wedding dress, and loves looking back at the pictures - even though it looks silly and dated, it reminds her more of that specific time in her life and the world. I’ve been starting to notice a shift in my own perception of looking back on old trends I participated in: cringing at them less, and having more of a fondness and nostalgia (even if I would NEVER wear it again lolol)

I feel the same way but my thinking and hopefully it might be a little helpful to you as well is that if you buy a vintage dress and you like it today then it’s already stood the test of time, and it’s also more sustainable ☺️ I don’t know where you live but in most cities there are some vintage dress stores with options to rent or buy.

I totally have the same view. If I were you, I think I would try not to look too much at wedding dress articles or general media, and just try things on! I definitely didn't buy the style of dress I had expected, but once I put mine on I knew I would feel beautiful on the special day. Also, just a side note, if you are looking to save some money or go a more sustainable route, buying consignment may be an easier option than thrifting. It worked really great for me, anyway! (Also.... CONGRATULATIONS!!!!💞💞💞)

My view is that nothing is timeless, a hundred years later everything now would be so outdated anyway, I never chased trends but instead find what I like

I’m also engaged and just received my wedding dress. I was so picky lol, I wanted it to look timeless but still youthful, with lace but no old lady curtain lace, with long sleeves but not overtly modest. Glad I was so picky though because it looks absolutely perfect on me, and I know I’m going to look back and think “that was a beautiful dress” not “that dress was very -insert decade here-“

You are the only fashion influencer i watch at the moment. Everybody else and all the outfits I see on instagram are just stressing me out because I feel like I need to buy something or forget what I actually like and what my personal style is. The so called trendy girls mostly just wear everything that's "trendy" or in some way "forward" but don't have a personal touch to it. They just have a lot of clothes, look pretty and wear whatever urban outfitters tells them to wear. Your videos are so refreshing because you kinda focus on individualism and longevity and that's what I'm aiming for this year. Love from Germany

i think we'll feel the same way about mushroom decals and prints as we did about mustaches, chilis, and random pineapples/avocados on everything. which is a shame because i love mushrooms so it makes me weirdly sad that they're just a "trend" now. not even the fungal networks are safe from commodification. going along with that, the psychedelic trippy online ceramic knock-off sort of shirts will be so dated soon. real online ceramics/funky screen printed shirts IMO will last for longer though because they're more unique to the person/brand than something mass produced at UO or H&M.

I know this was meant to be a funny and playful video (and it was!) but I think there is also such a prescient point here: it’s so insidious when influencers talk about pieces or looks being “timeless” because it convinces us to buy buy buy into them every season. At this point it’s essentially a marketing tactic to obfuscate the trend cycle because it’s gotten so out of hand. It’s so important to take a step back and remember that there is no such thing as “timeless” when it comes to fashion (at least in this era), and to focus instead on personal style and sustainability in what we wear - which can include playing with trends! We just need to be conscious about them :)
@kya9747
@kya9747 Год назад
Yes you are so right!! I personally am so tired of hearing people say everything is a “staple piece,” an “investment,” or just a “basic,” because it seems like the pieces they are labeling as these titles are just sooo trendy it’s really becoming a marketing gimmick like you cannot tell me the oversized black blazer is a basic for everyone’s wardrobe lol
@kaisak6657
@kaisak6657 Год назад
I agree with both of you so much and came to the comment section just to see if someone was talking about this. A black blazer is probably quite timeless, but no cut of blazer is forever timeless! The oversized style will one day look dated probably, the way fitted blazers look less trendy now. Nothing wrong with either of course. Moreover, just because something could be timeless does not mean that it is universal, not everyone needs or wants a black blazer!

This is so spot on. I used to get embarrassed thinking about how much I used to love a trend that is no longer in style (I loved mint green/galaxy everything in the early to mid 2010s) but now it brings back more nostalgia. These pieces used to make me really happy! It's cool to be able to look at the trends and think about what you were like when you participated in them.

I get so triggered by some fashion bloggers going on about how timeless things are when we all know they're going to have an almost entirely new wardrobe in a year or two. Like, yeah, cardigans are timeless, but that one very popular iteration of the cardigan you just bought is very of the moment. And while, yes, most people will continue to wear it anyway because looking super current doesn't matter to most people and budgets are limited, they will not. It's starting to come off as super preachy. Not everyone is like this obviously and I make an effort to follow more genuinely sustainable creators. Can we just acknowledge when something is a trend or a fad? Thank you.

i think that the way trends resurface makes you wear things that you would’ve absolutely sworn off years ago. i used to get so disgusted by mid rise and low rise jeans, but now that they’re trending, i’ve actually noticed that it fits my body type way better?? i’ve been sticking to super duper high waisted pants but never thought to give a chance to any jeans that go below my belly button. but who knows maybe i’ll hate it again in a couple years lmao

However, when it comes to the "business casual" look with blazers, suits etc. I think it differentiates depending on where you are from. I'm from Denmark and here the business casual "trend" has been a thing for years and blazers have been worn to the club ever since I can remember - yes in different styles and fits throughout time - but I don't think it will ever feel out of place here to pair it with casual clothing or going out clothing as it is more regarded as a simple and classic jacket rather than something connected to formal/business attire at least when it comes to "women's fashion".

People need to start caring less about trends and wear what they love and feel good in. It’s interesting to me that you talk so much more about personal style in your videos in the last few months yet still say you wonder what you were thinking wearing an outfit from a week before but it’s definitely something that comes with age. I’m in my early 30s and from about mid 20s I really leaned into my own style. Does that mean I don’t buy and wear trendy things? No, but I only buy and wear trendy things that already work with my exciting wardrobe and more importantly feel like me. For me blazers are a staple and always will be, blazers and pant suits have been my favourite for nearly a decade now so whether they’re on trend or not, you’ll catch me wearing them because they feel like me. When I look back at my outfits from the last 5 or so years I have no regrets, love most of them and some I wish I could wear again (my body’s changes so many don’t fit me anymore). Once your goal is to start dressing like yourself, when people see your outfits and say this is so you, you know you found it and the trends won’t matter. I think timeless pieces exist but they’re timeless for a specific person not for everyone like the blazers I’ve mentioned and you mentioned in one of your previous trends vs timeless video. Wear what feels like you, always and you’ll have no regrets but fond memories with your old outfits and maybe even inspire your new looks too.

I'll take the example of sweater vest l, they have always existed and tbh I hated them as a kid to and used to call them impractical when my mother forced me to wear it. I really liked last to last fall when they started trending but told myself my younger self will think I was doing a heinous crime. I finally bought one last year after thinking I still like them after a year. I'm aware I'll might start hating them again but I know I thought it over and I just didn't gave into the trend.

Those who are used to trends are really used to the freedom and creativity and struggling a bit and then those who always felt they had to conform to trends are thriving! I think my advice would be to figure what they like and what looks good on them and makes them feel good and chances are you’ll look good and stylish! so much is trending that nothing and everything is trending all at once!

This reminds me that I just am too picky. I hated everything from 10 years ago as a kid and everything equivalent you mentioned now except maybe the tights.

Me and my big ass legs are going to stick with chunkier/platform shoes so I don’t look like a tree trunk🤠🤠 it’s funny because I look back at my small shoes I used to wear and cringe at how I looked in them, but I see your point it does get to be excessive hahah

This is no shade to anybody because everyone is always allowed to wear whatever they want and whatever they feel their best in, but I think a few years from now people are going to laugh that they spent so much on djerf Avenues clothing just to all look like clones of Matilda djerf (the stuff is so cute, don’t get me wrong but so pricy and can be easily thrifted and thrifted things always shows more originality)

When I think of timeless pieces of think of closet staples like denim no matter how you flip it no one will ditch denim whether it’s jeans or jackets or heels everyone will always have heels in their closet. The things you mentioned in the video are definitely not here to stay…fashion is ever changing over the top pieces just don’t stick around

TBH, i know printed tights are having a specific moment, but i feel like they are timeless? There were statement tights in the 60's, 70's, 80's, a bit less in the 90, i remember loving my statement tights as a child in 00's and in the 2010's. Statement tights are timeless, altough the excecution might differ

So many fashion mags from 5+ years ago would beg to differ, entire stories about how ugly and awful printed tights were lololol
@lapolie

@@LainiOzark T.T It's so bizarre that fashion magazines filled entire pages with what is out of style, only to introduce the next fashion trend. I remember collecting vogue in the early 10's and when i look back, i only cringe at all their 'rules'. I remember a vogue article saying that young women don't need bags because they have pockets, because they are young.

i think blazers + casual -is still cool.. princes d actually made jeans, printed t and a big blazer - a signature look. thats the definition of timeless. we need to consider the history of fashion before 2000.

I have problem with wearing what i want and not feeling like an idiot, because some people on internet say its not trendy, for example i still wear my air forces, i know its stupid but i can‘t help myself, and i hate this feeling, and thought that i need to buy some new balance dad shoe, adidas sambas, air jordans to feel fashionable

@@user-yd3el8tq6s nice, somebody understands it, but also all these people on internet saying this is timeless, we are not following trends but its obvious they are being influenced, its just stupid sometimes, its like lets not follow the trends, but actually follow the frends omg i really can‘t explain it, like they say this is timeless, those are the pieces that i feel the most comfortable in, but when you realise its just because its in that given time accepted from society, then one month from now they will change their opinions on what timeless is, and in what shoes or pants they are most comfortable, for example skinny jeans hate rn or air force hate that im seeing

Hi Laini, I just watched one of your videos for the first time and Im obsessed!! I just have a somewhat of an egotistical request, because I,m not american I dont necessarily know what you mean by sneaker wedges and things like that, also references to like 2005s fits xD so of you could post a reference picture on the screen just for context thatd be awesome for us non americans anyways love your videos gonna keep binging them thxxxxx
