Yes, this video was requested, yet, even if it hadn't, I would have uploaded it anyway, since this is definitely my favourite song from the musical. And Vittorio, ahh...he is just wonderful. He's likely my favourite Italian musical artist. Unattainable.
Nevertheless, even if this is my favourite song, I'm not much satisfied with lyrics. They do have some good passages, but they remain overall quite flat and too cold (especially if compared to the sweetness and gentleness of the French version...). I hoped for something better...

“Mi ha gettato nell’abisso di un pensiero fisso” just sounds really beautiful to me because of how it rhymes. And also the line “la gonna gira e mai, mai per me la toglierai” really shows Frollo’s frustration. Beautiful version, overall!

Vittorio is amazing both as Frollo and Lord Capuletti. Fun fact: in my country (Russia) the actor who played Frollo (Alexander Marakulin) also played Lord Capuletti just as Vittorio

Oh wow. First off, thank you for posting this so soon :) And second, as I had said before I'm teaching myself Italian and I understood bits and pieces, but seeing the whole translation makes it that much more powerful. It makes his torment so much more tangible to me. Although I see what you mean about the overall feel of the song colder. But I think in this case, he's entitled to feel like this. His entire world is being turned upside down, that'd make anybody unstable, I think

NarnianGypsy It was literally a pleasure ;) Yes, I agree. I don't say the song is unable to convey his torment (no wonder if Frollo is my second character among my favourites), yet I really wish they found a way to make the song more touching (as they actually did for other songs)...

I think this is best version of this song. The guy in the French one has the best voice but Italian is the most beautiful one because of the language and the emotion of Mateucci.

Please say that you're talking about Daniel Lavoie... there have been other artists to play Frollo but he still is... THE BEST CHOICE.

Frollo in the Italian version is so much more convincing than in the French one - so much more genuine passion and sinister. The French one is much too handsome for Frollo and lukewarm in his acting.

(Wait does this man sing the Italian version to the song in Romeo and Juliet too? It sounds SO familiar! o.o) Yooo my childhood movie and now I'm older and realizing what it was REALLY about.. Not something I expected from Disney.. o.o (I saw the original movie about a month ago too.. I cried ;-; )

Oh, I love you so much for posting this, I've been looking for a subs+trans version of this song for a long time. I've fallen in love with Vittorio's voice! I have a request if you don't mind (and are not busy), could you please do a subs+trans version of "Il duello" from the Romeo e Giulietta Italian musical? I've been trying to practise my Italian by watching and listening a lot, but there's still bits of the song I don't quite understand... Thanks! :)

I guess it's because of the distance between the public and the actors. From far away the thick eyebrows are still visible and give to his face an intimidatory glare. Also, the white underneath reflects a bit the lights. Overall i think it's for the perfomance's sake, since the actors are very expressive and the people in the last seats wouldn't be able to see that.
