Came for the build, staying for the adventures. It was always about the promise of hitting the road and living life with more intention, wasn't it? Now that you're doing it, I enjoy your videos even more. You're doing great. You are amazing.

Emma, back in the olden days, a well known American author, John Steinbeck did exactly what you're doing and wrote a book: my Travels with Charley (his dog). He named his camper Rocinate, after Don Quixotes horse. He went off in search of America, the place he wrote so much about. I want to call attention to his Washing Machine: A five gallon bucket with tight fitting lid, solidly mounted on your vehicle. Add clothes, detergent, and water and just drive on to your next destination. The road will agitate the Laundry all the while you drive. Cleaner than you can get with quarters. Thought you might like to know.

It appears you’ve adapted well to “bus life”. Smart not jumping into that river. It looked swift and no telling how far down it could have taken you! Good to see that you’re brave, better to see you’re cautious when it matters😀

Thank you for being cautious around rivers Emma, they can be deceptively dangerous and deserve our respect. I wonder if a short rope anchored to a tree (or other solid thing) would allow you to dunk in rivers when you're alone with a little more abandon. Mice will only live where there is access to food. Check your food stores for holes in bags or boxes of rice and other grains. Look for little tiny black poops near those things too, that's a sure sign. Thanks for the video . . . You're making it look like a dream.

An old trick my Pap had taught me with streams, cricks, and rivers is to toss a leaf, stick, or anything that floats and Based on your knowledge of how water moves through a stream, choose two small sections (called “reaches”) of the stream equal in length (3 to 10 meters long). One of these should be a stretch that you think will have a lower (slower) flow speed, and one should be a section you believe will have a higher (faster) flow speed. The speed is determined by timing how long it takes for an object to float from one point to another, along a measured stretch of stream; and then dividing the time it took by the distance the object traveled, to get a rate in meters per second (meters/second). I hope this helps with future morning dunks at a stream, crick, or river!

As others have said, good choice to not swim in the current. That current looks too strong to even paddle board on. If you do find a slower river to paddle on, start going up stream (against the current) so you don’t end up going to far to be able to get back.

Great video of a beautiful area. The first time I rode over a metal draw bridge was unnerving but I finally figured out that the cycle will keep itself up if you almost turn loose of the handle bar, just let your hand rest on them and let it jerk around a bit, same with lose gravel. When I was a teen, I waded out in a strong current, and once I got above my knees it started dragging me down the river standing up and cut my foot so I dropped into the water until I could get to the bank and grab a small tree and pull myself out. Good lesson learned early. With rocks like that, and water that gets deep quickly like that, stay where there is little current as it will take you down river and you risk hitting your head. A river like that needs a kayak, a bicycle type helmet and lifejacket. You will never paddle up river in water like that, you need a place down river to take out, and never do it alone! Lakes were made for paddle boarding...

River swimming 101 Check downstream for an exit. Don't try to swim upstream against the current. Unless it's clear enough to see, keep your feet up to avoid a rock wedge grabbing a leg and the current folding you over and drowning you. If swept away to the other side, walk upstream then swim diagonally across the current back to where you want to get out. Quite often if it looks fast on the surface, 12-18 inches below is twice as fast. And lastly, discretion is the better part of valor. Love your bus build. I'd name the mouse Houdini.

Emma, since you are hiking around the wilderness by your self, please get a couple of sleigh bells and attach them to your shoes. There are things out there much bigger than you that will look at you as a snack. If you are making more noise it is less likely that you might walk up and startle a bear, big cat, ETC. I know it sounds weird, but it could save your butt.

There's a river in the UK that's the one of the most dangerous in the world called the bolton strid; it looks nothing more than a brook (creek) that you can jump over, but in reality it's a full river that has been pushed on it's side by geology, is very deep fast flowing and it will pull you under in seconds if you slip in it

When you get to the bottom of a sandy rocky trail on your motorcycle and it looks like you're gonna go down it's called "Washing Out". I'd always assume that critters are trying to get in at least. Lived on a farm and had a mouse go across my face one night! Luckily I didn't get bit, and discovered that peppermint oil will discourage almost all types of critters. If, like me, you're not fond of the scent I've used dry sachets in cupboards etc and then a mix including lavender and cedar oil as a room scent which also helps drive them away.

Get use to mice. All the places you camp have tons of mice. And, they like to eat the insulation off wires. Raccoons eat rubber brake lines so they can lick the sweet brake fluid. Your bus is FILLED with holes and cracks for mice to enter. Mouse traps won't work. There is too much food everywhere for them to eat. They come out at night. You'll hear them running around and sometimes on your bed covers and under the sheets. Stay out of the fast water. If you do go in lay on your back and feet down stream and slowly try to paddle to shore (SLOW). Don't use up your energy or panic. That's when you go down for the count.

River flows are measured in CFS. Cubic feet per second. The river you were in looked like it was flowing at about 300 CFS. That’s a good flow for tube floating. If ever you are stuck in a moving river, try to direct yourself towards the shore or bank. The current isn’t as strong there. I’ve done a lot of white water rafting. Your doing good Emma! Proud Of You!

Good on you for getting out and tackling the tough road to get where you want on your Monkey. The more you ride, the more comfortable and skilled you will be. It's rewarding to see you reaping the benefits of your hard work with the bus. Also, if you're worried about currents in a river, carry a rope (with carabiners on both ends maybe, and/or a belt or harness) and tie one end around your waist and the other around a rock. Just make sure you get carabiners made for climbing or carrying the weight, or just use knots instead.

Great video Emma! Good you're doing your daily cold dips! But please be careful! Always leave a note in your bus incase anything happens so if anyone starts looking for you they find it! Also rivers are always dangerous generally and the deeper they are that goes up much more so. Throw a leaf or dry stick in that floats, if the leaf/stick goes past faster than you can swim, then don't get in as you'll get swept down stream! (as a minimum guage!) Also if the water is breaking on the top and/or swirling like it was there (like mini rapids) that indicates multiple currents under the surface which could sweep you away or drag you under! (so don't risk it) and.. best to have an anker line tied securely to a solid tree or a stake in the ground that's solid, then if you lose footing and get swept down river or under, you can hopefully pull yourself out safely.. (always good to let someone know where you're going through it that's an option just incase!) You only get to make one mistake, so have a back up! That aside the food looks amazing you've been making and you're clearly having lots of fun which is great! Have a great week! Cheers from London 👍😎🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Please be careful when going on rivers, they can be so much fun and deceptive at the same time. We were river rafting and got to the end it was the first time I went the whole way my 2 friends were at the edge getting ready to get off the river approximately 15 feet away so I thought wow their only knee deep I thought I would get off the my tube and was so happy I didn't get my hair wet the whole way so I got off and had a big drop off and actually scared me and of course got my hair wet. Long story short I know a guy that died on this same river evidently. This river has many drop offs and they think he got in one and got disoriented and drown, it was so sad who would of thought u could drown in a river. PLEASE be careful always remember to be cautious. So proud of u for being so cautious already. GOD BLESS❤
