My experience with a continuous glucose monitor and oatmeal is that when it was just plain with salt and butter my blood glucose went way way way up! When I simply added a decent amount of cinnamon, it stayed very even. This was a repeated result from doing it repeatedly.

Thank you so much for your video! I have been so torn if I have to give up oatmeal because what all the “experts” say. For those that don’t know….I know it may sound weird but if you add in a scrambled egg into oatmeal you will get the creamiest oatmeal you have ever eaten! So good. 😋The trick is… when your oats are almost done cooking add a 1/4 cup of cold water in one spot, in that same spot pour your egg in and start stirring like crazy. This way you don’t end up with scrambled eggs in your oatmeal. You will start to see your oatmeal become a creamier consistency as you stir and it cooks. Only takes a minute. It won’t taste eggy either. I’d love to see how adding the egg would change your results.
@chiefengineer488
@chiefengineer488 3 месяца назад
I just fold in the raw egg when the hot oats are almost cooked. The egg will cook perfectly. Don't forget to add salt and black pepper, real butter (or a bit of olive oil). I also love to add a finely chopped clove of garlic sometimes. Be adventurous... try a spoonful of Chinese oyster sauce or a dash of soy sauce.

From most to least refined: instant, rolled, steel-cut, groats. I make my oatmeal from oat groats cooked in the Instant Pot. I hope I'm getting the least glucose spike from this choice.

I always put an egg in my oatmeal. After the oatmeal is done cooking, I stir the egg in there. The heat of the oatmeal cooks the egg. It's so yummy.

There was a time many years ago when I was running lots and eating more than the average amount of oats. I was also going completely overboard on dropping pounds, and for my height, I dropped down to the lower edge of healthy BMI. I'm at around 22 BMI now and ten lbs. under my high school weight and I think pretty fit too from cycling as the major thing. One of the things I was doing was to eat oats with some fruit in it every day for months and mostly otherwise for many more months. I'm a lot happier with breakfast food when I have an egg and breakfast meat with whatever else like cereal, grits, oats etc. Also I could eat the second way and still drop pounds if need be and at a more moderate rate too. This blood sugar stuff I think is probably overrated as a factor for entirely healthy, and non-diabetic people, but it's still interesting.
