Just got my first car - a 2002 Mk1 Focus with 30,000 miles on the clock. I fell in love with it when my Dad inherited one from my granddad which I used to learn to drive before a coil spring broke and it started to become a money-sink because it was not well looked after. I look forward to flushing and changing all the fluids, and having a good go at fixing all the minor issues like heavy power steering and stiff gear box this old one has. Thank you for the clear videos.

Xersos welcome, thanks for your comment, and enjoy the Focus videos 😊 I hope they help you. The Focus is a great little car, you will find that changing all the fluids will make a nice difference. ✌️

Quick tip for the ramps to stop them sliding away use yogamats under them and for safety put a piece of wood behind the wheels and keep the car in gear to stop it from rolling away

Great content mate, I had a leak from my power steering system recently ( reservoir was empty!) I checked under the car for leak There was steering fluid everywhere I managed to trace it to the pressure switch on the pump , it was leaking through the plastic wire connector end so it was a cheap fix (£25) got quoted £300 for a new steering rack

Nice save mate, I have a small power steering leak as well... I'll need to get to it soon. Looks like mine's leaking at the pump pulley, so a new pump has been ordered... Thanks for watching Paul.

hi there, yesterday i was doing an oil change and filter on my mk1 1.8Tddi from 2000. it was a heavy fight for almost a day! finally it came loose after almost 3 hours . it always went with a dealer who pulled it tighter than normaly. i almost gave up. i couldn't drive anymore since i tried the screwdriver method trough the filter. luckely it came loose, i was soooo happy after :-). love your video's. i have a diesel since new from 2000 and bought a 2 liter zetec 2 years back, both panther black 3 doors. the diesel is a very reliable car with very good fuel economy. keep up the good work !

Just one thing I noticed and that's, you didn't change oil sump plug gasket (not sure if this is compulsory but most vlog mechanics recommend doing so). Otherwise great video.
@Horus_Works
@Horus_Works 4 месяца назад
Thanks mate, that is indeed good advice. I've got a special sump plug that has a rubberized fitting on the nut which is designed to last a long time, but generally yes, the washer should be changed on the factory sump plugs, I should have mentioned this. Thanks for watching and for your comment 👍

Love his wheels. Scares the heck out of me the way they drive on the wrong side of the road, and like 90% of people are right-handed, yet they have to shift left-handed.
@davideyres955
@davideyres955 7 дней назад
You mean they drive on the correct side of the road and have the right hand (usually the stronger hand ) on the steering wheel. What’s more important changing the gear or steering? I’d rather not drive into a tree but be in the right gear than miss a gear.

Thank you, my 1.6 Mk1 focus loses oil between changes. What could be the reason? I already changed the rocker cover gasket but it still loses oil!
@Horus_Works
@Horus_Works Год назад
Hi my friend, it's really hard to say if you have a problem, because oil consumption could be for many reasons... Do you have any oil leaks from the engine? I would start by looking for other leaks. If no, does your car blow smoke from the tail pipe? Smoke from the tail pipe can be a blown head gasket. If you don't have these problems, your car may just be consuming oil. High mileage cars can do this. My Alfa Romeo project consumes a lot of oil, and this is considered normal for that car by Alfa Romeo.
@MuaadElSharif
@MuaadElSharif Год назад
@@Horus_Works Thank you for replying. It has no leaks what so ever and I have a bit of smoke when I start it up in the morning and I notice it sometimes when I revv. The car has 118KMs but no way to be sure since it's a 2001. I've been told that the 1.6 engine loses oil since new but I am yet to confirm that.
@Horus_Works
@Horus_Works Год назад
@@MuaadElSharif as long as it's not leaking, and you aren't making a lot of smoke, don't worry too much about it. As an example, my Alfa Romeo needs about 1 liter of oil every 3 months, and they say this is normal for this car.

@Horus_Works

It depends on how much driving you do, and in what conditions Cristian. I change my oil every 5000km, but for me that's once every year in city traffic.

@@Horus_Works Thanks. I only drive about 1500 km per year (only inside the city), so it's a matter of time, not km for me. Ford Castrol Magnatec 5W30 is good? Thanks again.

Is there a reason why you still have a mk1 focus rather then the newer models?
@Horus_Works
@Horus_Works Месяц назад
When I bought the car 4 years ago, I needed something cheap and reliable as a second car for shorter trips around the city. I would argue that the Mk1 is very reliable if well maintained, probably the most reliable of all Focuses. It's also fun to drive because it's the lightest Focus version, and economical on petrol so those are all wins. If you need it as a family car, I would actually recommend a newer, larger Focus, but if you just need a second car to get around in, the Mk1 is the choice I'd go for.

@@Horus_Works thank you for the feed back u was just curious as I personally think mk2 St and mk3 are the best looking models with good power out put how ever your response is valid and I do see your point. @@JohnHipkin-yr6wr I've had 2 MK2 Focus STs and can recommend them if you're after power - that Volvo 5 pot is a very good engine. Doesn't make the best daily though, a good daily but not the best. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it 👍

Why didn't you pull the car all the way up on the ramps? That looks dangerous with it not being at top of ramps.

It's okay, these are reinforced all the way along the ramp - same load bearing from start to end. As long as your back wheels are chocked it's okay.

Every oil that you change will be black, it's hard to tell on the video if it's to old. Oil will degenerate if it gets often to hot or you drove to much km/miles with it. I don't believe you can really see it when you look at the oil itself. Well.. If you got thick oil with debri or sludge it's way over due! Haha
