Man, I am so jealous of your coolant reservoir.. On topic: I have 1.8 Tddi focus. Now it is third oil change that I do with same filters and oil. I do use 5W40 Castrol turbo diesel titanium with mann filters. I chosen 5w40 because i have 270000km (around 167k mi) done and I change every 10k (6k miles). I don't even need to look at dip stick, because it does stay where I left. Also, they say diesel oil always black. Well after this change I done around 4k and I can still see a bit of amber color. Really, don't cheap out on maintenance and even old tddi will last forever!
@usuallyfixingtinkering
@usuallyfixingtinkering Год назад
It's pretty new lol don't be! 5W40 is fine for this application based on the mileage and the fact its amber suggests the engine is really clean for a diesel lump, that engine will outlive us all!
@Tadasskr
@Tadasskr Год назад
@@usuallyfixingtinkering I mean it is not new amber :D. It is dark with hint of amber and its so clean

I tried everything, Liqui Moly, Motul, Castrol, Shell Helix, Total, with everything I had oil consumption! at last I put the Valvoline Synpower in, and now I don't have any oil consumption anymore, and the engine runs very smooth!

That's very interesting! Just goes to show trying different brands can show results. Clearly there an additive in these thatcsyits this issue. I didnt realy talk about brands because as long as its to spec there's hardly any difference except maybe the odd additive (which they never reveal)

@@scottykilmer3920 tbh I run mine on ngk and they felt fine, I've ran on champion and bosch super plus with the same results. There's bad batches with every part these days

Always had oilf change on my Mk1 every year as the interval was 12500 mile or 12 Months

that's the best preventative maintenance :)
@AJ-tj7jm
@AJ-tj7jm Месяц назад
@usuallyfixingtinkering On average I only clock up around 7500 per year so oil never got chance to degrade, my current car is on a 2 year 18K interval, as its getting older I'm thinking of doing an interim annual change in addition to its bi-annual trip to the dealer.

Ive got Y reg focus 1.6 zetec, ive done nearly 50,000 miles in it in 3 years since i bought it, only paid £300 for it, its been a brilliant car without issues, apart from a water pump and usual mot things, but ive never changed the oil, just topped it up now and again, its on 129,000 miles now, maybe id better drop the oil and put fresh in it, the engine sounds smooth no tappet noise even on cold start, dont want to ruin it , as you've showed us in that clip what can happen to the bottom end, great informative video as always
@usuallyfixingtinkering
@usuallyfixingtinkering Год назад
Grab some 5W30, I didn't cover specs because most oils now far exceed the specs back then. I use Mannol oil in the video and mine runs fine. I don't see Y reg examples very often now keepnit sweet and she'll just run and run for you :)
@andrewwalsh5837
@andrewwalsh5837 Год назад
@@usuallyfixingtinkering I will do, i always top up with 5W30 but last time i did top up a few weeks ago i put in 10W40 as it had gone low and the shop i go to had no 5W30 left, also i worry about cambelt, ive no history of a change and ive never done it
@usuallyfixingtinkering
@usuallyfixingtinkering Год назад
@@andrewwalsh5837 just put 5w30 in whenever you do the oil next... that's why I said it's fine in emergency use to use different graded oils. Just bare in mind. If there's no evidence I'm still pretty sure to get to 22 years old it must have had a belt change by now! Age would have made it snap by now. I would however get a garage to check it because if that snaps goodbye engine. Its a £300-50 job with water pump at same time. You won't need that changing on yours but I'd just get it looked at before you do any long journeys
@andrewwalsh5837
@andrewwalsh5837 Год назад
@@usuallyfixingtinkering Thanks for your reply, i will do, the water pump isnt driven by the cam belt, its driven by the ancillary belt, the mechanic took off the cam cover to remove bits of metal from the water pump inside that area, that was at 1000,000 miles, the bearings failed in the water pump, but he said at the time the cam belt looked ok, but looks arn't everything , it must have had a change at some point otherwise it would never be still intact if it was the oringinal, it would be impossible over 22 yerars
@usuallyfixingtinkering
@usuallyfixingtinkering Год назад
@@andrewwalsh5837 the pump isn't driven by the cam belt but its best practice to change with a cam belt because you have to remove a lot of things to get to it. If your not sure get it changed if its had a change at 22 years old it will be close again. The recommendation is 10 years but even if it was done later at 13 years - it's time is due again. Just food for thought.

Is it normal for the bite to be near the top on the clutch? My car judders as well so I have to accelerate a bit to stop it juddering. Is my clutch on the way out?? Also my engine makes ticking noises, any suggestions?
@usuallyfixingtinkering
@usuallyfixingtinkering Год назад
I've known cars with high clutches to have very little or very old gearbox oil... I found this out very accidentaly. Change the oil for new and see if the biting point lowers!

I'm a fool maniac, I guess.. I think oil change is the most important maitenance in a car's engine. I use synthetic oil, change interval is six month (or 8000km, whichever comes first). My maniac method is: round one: old oil plus engine flush (Liqui Moly), 10 minutes idle. round two: New filter, new cheap oil plus engine flush (Liqui Moly), 10 minutes idle. round three: New cheap oil without engine flush, 10 minutes idle. round four: New filter, new synthetic oil. Good to go. I use the round two and round three oils in the next change, six months later.
@usuallyfixingtinkering
@usuallyfixingtinkering Год назад
That's a nice regime! The only thing I'm against is engine flushing, the oil galleries are small and this effectively could dislodge some crud out from a corner and into an oil gallery. I have known zetec engines with blocked oil circulation bit its rare and you'd have to never change the oil in 8 years to have that happen at least!

@@usuallyfixingtinkering ohyeah.. IB5, with its so called "lifetime" transmission oil. One of my next project of this year is IB5 oil change. Funny thing: a new transmission oil has a label on it's container: shelflife is 5years. But if you use it in an IB5, that's "lifetime" oil.. Stop kidding me, Ford! :-)
@usuallyfixingtinkering
@usuallyfixingtinkering Год назад
@@flycorvus to be fair I think "shelf life" is a term to cover the oil companies legally etc but those gearboxes like any need new oil every so often!
