It was the snowball that just kept going Death of Superman > Knightfall > Emerald Twilight > Death of Green Arrow > Artemis... For some reason some of them worked on me. Other's....not so much.

@@NearMintCondition The follow up stories to Death of Superman were much better than the event itself. And it wasn't like this story was entirely to blame for the comics' near demise either. The dealers who were ordering cases of Superman 75 and charging 50-75 dollars a copy to people that all the hoopla brought in, who then felt ripped off when the bottom dropped out on the comic's value and then felt burned and pissed off and never bought another comic again. I was getting flashbacks of that with the recent price gouging for the first appearance of the Batwang when Bataman: Damned #1 was going for 60 dollars within a week of publication. But at least Damned had some rarity to it. DC printed mountains of copies of the Death of Superman. The Death of Superman had a decent story but at its heart was a story about the comics industries greed and how it almost destroyed itself because of it. Talk about a self-fulfilling prophesy.

I loved Funeral for a Friend and I was used to events driving sales. But I think the big implosion came with Image. Remember? Everyone thought they could get rich quick by buying 20 copies of Wild C.A.T.S. 1 or Youngblood 1. That was insanity. Variant covers and all these gimmick covers are also coming back. Weird...

It's all subjective, man. These are just our personal scores. I was in higschool when this run came out so it hits at the nostalgia strings. If you base the credibility of the program based on one single score, maybe we don't share the same standards in comics. I think 7 out of 10 for me is a fair grade for something like this.

It was a slug fest with the barest bones of a story for the death of the most iconic superhero in history. He deserved better. 5/10 should be the best score this one can get.

Derrick Chua true. That was the point. A marketing ploy with a gimmick. But to the 15 year old in me, it worked. But much like other iconic stories people always differ in opinions.
