Those sockets are good but at damaging the head of the bolts. Nothing can replace a good set of sockets
@coytus94
@coytus94 4 года назад
Alejo Colombia agreed. Its a great socket for certain light to moderate occasions where you need something quick and don't want to fumble around your sockets until you find the one you need, but i would definitely not use this to replace a socket set on a daily basis. Too much torque on this thing will destroy it.

I too got one of these as a gift 15-20 years ago. Still in my tool chest and often mistake it for a plug socket. Good for light weight uses or odd size fasteners, in a pinch, but diffidently will not replace socket sets.

I like the Gator for what it is, have one for the house, and one goes in my tool bag for work. Having said that, it does struggle with uses where you need a deep well socket, due to how it’s built. My tool bag has limited space, and that’s why I keep it with me. I’d like to see them make a deepwell version, and maybe someone really smart can figure out a way to make centering it quickly on hardware easier.

have had mine for over 20 years, was given to me as a gift, used it to bolt in main breakers on houses, as different equip. mfg. used different size nuts and/or bolts and it was convenient. worked okay for a while till, the springs started giving out. now it just sits in the toolbox taking up space, as who knows, may need it in a pinch some day.

I have 3 gator grips in various kits that I’ve owned for many years.. the main problem is centering the driver and getting a good turn under torque. I mainly use them for stripped and damaged bolt removal and normal sockets for everything else. They are perfect for removal of damaged items. Way better then a pair of vise grips and a hammer or beating on a socket one size smaller and then having to replace that socket..

I'm a mover....I have one in my tool bag and have used it on occasion. It has come in handy when I didn't feel like breaking out my wrench wrap. It has also been the only tool I could use for square head bolts that are inset on antique bed frames. They can be 8" long and fully threaded. Try getting an angle on them with needle nose. So, these things have their uses. Not everyday and not every job. But definitely worth the space in your tool kit.

Like most people said, it’s fine in a pinch, have odd size or shaped bolts, or for DIYers that don’t need a heavy duty socket set. I own one I keep accessible but it certainly will not replace a socket set for someone who uses them all day

I think this was hilarious. What started as a joke, turned out to be moderately useful. Minus using in an impact driver, or on things you couldn't use an undersized socket on? Might actually pick one up now.

I’ve been using a Metrinch socket set for 20 years. Bought it from an infomercial back when the 4 easy payments of $29.95 or whatever seemed like a good deal to a poor guy with no credit. One of the best purchases I’ve ever made. It’ll turn bolts a regular socket can’t, and one set does SAE and metric. I love it so much I bought the same set again off Amazon a couple years ago after losing one of the sockets. Give it a shot. I think it might surprise you.

No the Gator Grip can't replace a whole set but mine does work, and it's good to have around. Its great to have in case you loose or misplace a socket you don't have a duplicate of, or to toss in a bycicle tool kit. I know people who keep them in junkyard salvage tool kits, you never know if you might need something on the other side but can't exactly carry a duplicate of every socket.

As you mentioned it doesn't go very deep and I've noticed with mine that if the head or shoulders of the fastener isn't deep enough or there is bolt sticking out of the nut then they are pretty much useless. And since you're not centered with the fastener like you would be on a properly sized socket. It oscillates like a mofo.
