He said “that shit fun as hell I want to experience that again at the highest level, why would I want to be anywhere else” he felt he couldn’t get there again and went to a team he knew was the best option to get there. Sure he took the easy way out and it was weak and ruined nba competition, but it’s his life and he did what’s best for him, he did something selfish cause he’s been unselfish for so long.
@Tom B - Not even close to the same thing. Magic had won 3 titles by his 6th year in the league with his original team. KD hadn’t won anything in OKC so he simply went to an environment where he could get a ring. Also OKC and GS played each other one time in the playoffs - they didn’t have a rivalry with deep resentment like the Lakers and Celtics did.
isaiah was right he didnt have a bond with management. he was mad sam didnt want to celebrate around okc saying he was MVP when sam thought more about the team.
The worst part was it destroyed the competition for the next 2 years, I watched the Warriors that 73-9 season they were must watch T.V. playing at a whole different speed than the rest of the league, they pushed themselves to get the record then ended up getting dragged into a couple 7 game playoff series and gassed out, but they were still clearly the best team in the league they just need to shoot for more modest win totals like 67 so they stay fresh for the playoffs, so even after they lost I still thought they were the team to beat but knowing the Cavs had found a way made the next season's potential very exciting especially since OKC blew a 3-1 lead to the Warriors so there was that dynamic, even though Golden State had the edge it was still gonna be interesting to see it play out then in one fail swoop the league is flipped upside down and it took 2 years and an Achilles injury to get back to competitiveness, another decision that I think doesn't get talked about enough is Kwahi Leonards decision to leave Toronto for the Clippers, they had all the right pieces, beating the Warriors even with Durant injured was pretty impressive, now it's like Kwahi doesn't even exist anymore

At the end of the day, you have to admit that Russ was a big reason for Durant leaving. Word has come out since that KD went to management and asked them to control Russ, to try to talk some sense into him because EVER important, high-leverage situation brought out the worst in Russ, when the lights were the brightest Russ tried to play hero ball, dominate the ball when you’ve got one of the best offensive players ever, a clutch player, in KD on the court. Look at how Russ played in those games when GSW came back from 3-1. In the clutch, terrible shot selection, turnovers, terrible shooting %. Durant was tired of Russ playing like HE was MJ in the 4th, asked management to address it, they couldn’t, so he was gone. He KNEW he couldn’t win w Russ style of ball, especially in a league that had become all about distance shooting (what Russ is the worst in the league at). And KD is right. Russ hasn’t left the 2nd round since, despite playing w PG13, Melo, Harden, Steven Adams, etc. That’s at the foundation of why he left. He was tired of the ball-dominant, stat padding, ball hog Russ and knew that if management wouldn’t do anything he would have to go win elsewhere. No coincidence he chose the most unselfish, ball-movement team in the league to go to. It’s all pretty obvious

Basketball is a competitive sport it always has been. In order to be the best you had to beat the best and if you didn't you still had your respect. And, he had a chance to rub their faces in the poop he luckily stepped in at Miami.
KD made the decision for himself to go to GSW and get himself 2 rings. We, as fans of basketball, have the right to criticize his decision just as we did with Lebron. The difference here is that Lebron created a superteam. KD joined the greatest shooter of all time who was also the reigning 2x MVP, a top 3 shooter of all time, and (at the time) first team all defense player. KD at the time was a top 3 player in the NBA. No matter how you look at it, that’s too stacked. No team in history can beat them.
Even though the 17 Warriors were the best of all time, I'd say the current Nets, 17 Cavs, 13 Heat, 87 Lakers, 01 Lakers, 05 Spurs, 95 Rockets, 14 Spurs, 19 Raptors, 96 Bulls, 08 Celtics & 96 Magic could take them 2 or 3 times out of 10.
It was supposed to be only lasted that long. The only reason they can sign KD is because of Steph’s contract. Once they renew his contract there is no room for them to operate. If KD stays another year they need to get rid of everyone except Klay and sign a bunch of g league players
Forced super teams at most can last for 4 years because you can't pay everyone max money, but super teams built through the draft can last a decade plus because teams will have players bird rights and can go over the cap for their own players that they drafted
KD could've went to any other team except Lebron's and people would've been ok with that. Everybody pretty much figured he was gonna leave anyway. But the fact that he went to the team that beat him, the team he was up against and should've beat is just disgusting. The warriors should not have been a dynasty. But he got his rings tho.
One great example would be if Patrick Ewing had joined the bulls after he lost to them in the playoffs he faced the bulls like 5 times and only beat them once when Michael Jordan was playing baseball and Patrick Ewing was top 5 players in the NBA at that time for years
I know this move wasn't entirely based on locale and everything. But I'm just curious, would kd have left if he was still in Seattle and the sonics still existed?

They went from having the deepest and most high scoring bench in basketball to near the bottom of the barrel. A superteam is a superteam. Why it was formed is irrelevant. Yes Lebron left to win a chip because he had 0 chance of winning one in Cleveland that’s a FACT. KD left to win a championship but he clearly was so close to winning one in OKC far closer than Lebron was ever in Cleveland. @@vanjones1749 What do you mean "why do you think they recruited him?" Every team in the league was trying to recruit him, hes Kevin Durant. Its just the fact that he joined the team he almost beat in the wcf and joined them like a sore loser. He left a aready great title contending team to the 73-9 warriors and not a single team in the league was competable, how is that fair. Its like karl malone losing to mj and then saying fuck it im gonna join him cause I cant win in utah
I still like KD decision til this day. He just want to play happily and do the best for himself. Free agency, trade and buyout. They are all player movement
It's great for player movement but horrible from a competitive standpoint GS was going to the finals without him anyways all KD did was secure an easy path to a ring
