The level of respect shown towards Tahemaa and the Egyptian culture that mummified her reminds me of the conversation Emily Graslie and Caitlin Doughty had recently, regarding how to ethically conserve and display, or return, human specimens in museum collections.

Both forms have been listed in English dictionaries (and used in medical texts) for centuries, with the same meaning. At one point "preventative" became a euphemism for contraceptive, but it was derived from the same meaning (i.e., a way to prevent pregnancy).

Yeah, conservators and historians have sort of come to the conclusion that egyptians having straight, european-like hair isn't accurate. neither was it exactly like the hair of modern people in the region, but that's closer to what it would have been like.

Might there be 3000 year old insects too?
@matbroomfield
@matbroomfield 4 года назад
Nope, definitely not. I noticed the shape of that fly was a species of diptera that only evolved about 2937 years ago. Also, the way the linen crumbled denoted that it was made from a type of flax not palatable to the typical Egyptian Phlebotominae, (or sand fly) of that period. If you note the spectral properties of the wood used in the case, it was most likely sycamore, a wood which contains a high concetration of Diethyl-meta-toluamide which is a natural insect repellent, but which decays after approximately 216 years. All in all, I'd say your ridiculous hypothesis stumbles at the most superficial of examination.

I think tree rings would only tell you how old was the tree when it was cut. And you'd have to have all of the cross section for that too.
@lpsowns
@lpsowns 4 года назад
They'd likely have already done some form of radiometric dating on the coffin itself and anything inside. That would have told them approximately how old the coffin and body were.
@RollaArtis
@RollaArtis 4 года назад
@@lpsowns Well they probably know how old the body is because of the inscriptions. But it would be interesting to know if the coffin is original to the body, it may have been applied at a later date. Apparently these things can happen.

@apinakapinastorba

Freezing is actually the standard method of pest control used in the museum field. This is because it is highly effective while costing very little. Risks of damage can be avoided by packing objects sufficiently to avoid condensation and allowing objects to acclimatise slowly. Thanks for watching!
