The OPP will be putting new technology to the test this weekend in an attempt to prevent police pursuits. CityNews reporter Stella Acquisto has the details.
The purpose of this is to avoid getting in a high speed chase where things get deadly. Instead of chasing the guy at 200km/h, the just follow the guy with the GPS on and siren off without the suspect noticing. And like all police tactics its not gonna work in every scenario but it does help to reduce a potential deadly collision from officers, suspects, and civilians.
Absomolutely. Listen, They've been chasing cars in high speed and failing for far too long. It's about time to get rid of the high speed chase and Slap a GPS on the idiot who thinks they will out run the law and injure the innocent.
Will Wouldnt stopping by just gives the police an advantage to arrest the suspect? no criminal will even attempt that and try best to flee just far enough to make a stop and get the gps tracker off, goodluck with that tho
This is cool and all, but as someone with a back window that rolls down, all you'd need is one other accomplace and they could just hop back there and pop it off, even with me going 120 mph down the highway. Then there's no cops closly watching you. So new crimanal tip, drive a toyota truck/SUV and use the buddy system. btw, they would see it stopped tracking and know somethings up, but what if you tossed it in the bed of a truck you passed or were able to toss it onto another vehicle (more difficult, but could work in a bind.) Then you'd be long gone and they'd be following some random person instead.
It’s a great idea, but it might not be 100% effective. If the suspect floors it or makes an evasive maneuver before the officer can properly position the car, than this might not work too well.
Is this going to be used on motorcycles or is the likelyhood of hitting the rider/passenger or rear tire too great? What happens if the officer misses their mark? This is really cool technology but unintended consequences and mishaps suck.
They literally shoot people in the face with "bean bag guns" (shotguns). Do you think they GAF? Police officer is among the most likely professions of sociopaths...
@@fab8657 actually yes people have been killed by being hit in the head with bean bags. Bean bags and other related less-than-lethal items are not guaranteed to be less than lethal. They are however likely to be less lethal then firearms.
So car chases only happen on the highway?. OPP are police anywhere in the province. OPP detachments are also in cities. Google underground parking and see how many are near Highway exits. What about tunnels? Remember the car is trying to get away. but thanks for playing.
This would be a safe form of “detaining” a suspect prior to the eventual arrest without endangering the public or LE. The GPS “dart” is only meant to be used for a very short period of time. As soon as it’s deployed, LE will immediately track and apprehend the suspect due to the ongoing pursuit and the fact that the “glue” only lasts for a few hours and then it falls off the vehicle.
When are u all gunna start using drones. Launch smaller ones from the car with thermal imaging to help other officers find people and larger ones that can fly high for longer periods, i mean cheaper and faster them a helo so why not?
80% of the cars that are involved in police chases are stolen vehicles. So after police back off and let you do your thing all you have to do is ditch the car. FTP
I used to overclock my computer to compete for high scores in 3DMark. I had a Prometeia Mach I Phase Change $700 CPU Coooler (basically a refrigerator that focused all the cooling on the CPU) that kept the CPU that was sanded down to a mirror finish at -33C at idle and it had a heating element around the outer part that if you disabled it would run a little cooler but it would condensate because the motherboard that I soldered on to get higher CPU voltage, chipset, and ram voltage, plus the power supply 12V, 5V, and 3.3V rails was all boosted up pretty high generating so much heat it would drip right by the video card connector Plus I had a watercooled voltage modded video card with a high power thermal electric cooler that would frost up on the top when it was idle while the ram on it was cooking. If it wasnt strange enough having to go to autozone and explain that i needed a heatercore that will fit in my computer, to deal with the condensation I had to rub vasoline all over my video card and the slot it went in.... I made sure and kept my door locked when doing it because it would be easier not to have to explain what i was doing
