The third instalment of the Orange 329 Quiver Killer.
In the last episode we had the suspension tuned at J-Tech. Then we headed to the amazing Revolution Bike Park in Wales to test out the differences.
Much better, but this bike still has someway to go to acheive its full potential.
Thanks to BenCaptures / @bendonoghuephoto for the video.

Great content. I am a fan of single pivot bikes because of the simplicity, but I like them even more now after you dispelled the myths about the suspension. In my own experience, I have a Morewood Mbuzi. I switched from a Fox dhx air 4 shock to a cheap DNM coil shock with a compression adjustment. Despite the "linear" coil and "linear" suspension design, I am able to avoid bottom outs by dialling more compression damping and still retaining good bump compliance with the new shock. I could not achieve the same balance with the "progressive" air shock that lacked the crucial compression adjust. I think the way Orange improved rear suspension progression was to mount the long rear shock pointing so low they made a hole through the down tube.

10:17 “Imagine you had a filing cabinet in the back of your van…” funny you say that! Jk, looks like a great bike to ride 👍🏼

I’ve had a few Super deluxe’s the same and in my experience the new high flow (hotdog) piston totally cures the problem.

He already has non stock piston that is quite likely better than anything RS makes.

@@jakubgabris6901 just saying it worked for me, on 3 different shocks to! I had the Vorsprung kit in one that didn’t cure the problem so aftermarket kits are not necessarily the way forward.

@@jamesrisker4143 The NRC piston used here is a high flow piston. Having said this I have SDL Coil with NRC piston and it is quiet for me.

Cheers guys, I'm starting to think its the Counter Measure negative spring. I'm just awaiting setting from Rulezman for my Kitsuma that is on the Supreme, then I am going to try that for a few days to see if it stops

Thanks for the video! I'm loving the content. I have a similar noise issue on a SuperDeluxe coil shock. I've tried everything I know to do (even had it retuned) and the noise is still there. Not a big issue, just annoying. I'm interested to see what you find to be the culprit on your shock.

Cheers JBS. Thanks for the support. I'm starting to think its the Counter-Measure negative spring in the Super Deluxe
@lopon12

the noise could be the swing arm, i think orange changed from the single chainstay to the double arm to reduce that clunking.

You should make a vid on what you look for in regard to each setting. I.E this happens so i add more low speed but if this was happening I would add this and why etc. Feel like alot of vids on RU-vid skim the actual important stuff that you refer to in your vids

Cheers Cooley. good suggestion, I am working on some ideas like this, and soon I should have an inhouse filmer, so we will be able to churn out some more content!

Ive heard from other testers that the knocking is from the shock topping out..? Could it be an IFP issue possibly or maybe just try slowing rebound down a bit and see if that helps..? Really good video and love when you nerd out on suspension setup lol can't wait for more!

Cheers Jon, It's definitely not top out as it happens all the time when I'm around sag point. I'm starting to think its the Counter-Measure spring and confirmed by a few RS experts I spoke to. It does get quieter as the rebound gets faster.

Just got the 2021 stage6 and it makes the exact clunking noise. Also the cables are very rattly. Drives me nuts!

Super deluxe coil has this weird negative coil spring and it does make a slight noise, maybe it is somehow exaggerated by the bike's construction (it has lots of volume inside those welded profiles which can make some resonance effects).

Could be, I'm starting to think it is this after chatting to a few different people. The neg spring is called the Counter-Measure. Considering how simple the bike is, it's pretty noisy and creaky in a few places.

Paul, what are your thoughts on the Scott Ransom? You rode it in 2018 during the PB field test. I'm thinking about getting one as a quiver-killer.

I only rode it during the PB test, but it has the potential to be built into something like this for sure - check out BuckoWalker on instagram! My issue with those Scott bikes (also Genius and maybe other models) is at the seatstay/rocker link pivot. I've seen at least four crack here: when the suspension compresses this area opens up, then dirt/stones are directed here from the rear wheel, when the suspension extends the gap closes (so it looks nice and pretty when you are not riding it) and then if there is a stone in there it can crack the carbon. Not a great design and I would suggest a lack of prototyping meant it wasn't noticed, or only testing on alloy mules perhaps?

You forgot to dispel a few more myths about orange. Something about the welds, and something about the looks… let me take a quick look at PB’s comment section and I’ll give you more information 😂

The noise might be coming from the damper, I had the same problem and it drove me mad
