ClutterBug Hey, Cass! This will make you laugh! I got an Echo Dot for Christmas and have been trying to get Alexa to find me a podcast I would enjoy. Imagine my surprise tonight when I asked her "Alexa, play Clutterbug's podcast" and there you were😉

Hi Cass, I think there is something to do with the sex of the child and the parent. You know you have heard of Daddy's girl or Mommy's boy. They just are so attached to the opposite sex of the parent. I think it's because they get more empathy from that parent. Maybe they are just attracted to that parent and they are facionated by them. And you want to hear something crazy. My male beagle would only go outside for me. Wanted my attention and not my husband's. Now I have a girl dog and she wants to be with my husband all the time and they have this special bond.

Not sure what I am. I like simplicity and not a lot of visual clutter, but my house would reflect a butterfly and I have no idea what my organizational style would be. I hang on to some things and not others. I have both piles and things spread out. Some of my drawers are empty and some are organized and full. My attic is a storage nightmare because my husband and kids are the ones who out things up there and when I need things I can't find them up there. I don't really like clear bins in my living space and I haven't tried labeling because I'm worried I'll need to change things up and I'll have to take labels off and relabel everything. So, am I crazy or can I get help? I have 5 kids and 1 on the way and have been trying to get organized for over 12 years. Before I was married, I was the was the most organized person in my house, next to my mom and I don't like being disorganized but I definitely am. I need help but even with the bugs... I'm still a bit lost.

ClutterBug That is so my boy. It can be a challenge, but it is so rewarding. My boy is 16 now and other teen parents question how we are so close. It was those moments when he was 5 and I was there for the mini emergency. ❤

YES! I did the test and got cricket, but in the craft department, I am a bee. I don't use things I don't see, and it is so hard for me to get rid of things. And so hard to even use them because what if there is a better way to use it... it's a problem.

This really speaks to me! Here is a good Bee story: Many, many years ago when I got my first CD player, after I got about 12-15 CDs, I bought a nice wooden rack to display my little “collection”. Then I had some friends over...one of them started looking through them to find something they wanted to hear. I hollered across the room, “They’re organized by genre”! There was a lot of laughter about this...and I was a little embarrassed, but to be fair, if you have eclectic taste in music, genre is a logical order to use.

Where have you been all of my life?!?!? I just took the quiz and the description of a bee fits me to a “T.” I hide things away in baskets until I can figure out exactly how to organize them *correctly and permanently* Even knowing that a random hidden container needs to be sorted and organized can cause me stress. I always found it strange that clutter felt so overwhelming but it took me forever to get something organized in a way that Was satisfying. I have ADHD and OCD so I just figured that was another one of my quirks. This actually helps to put things in perspective.

I AM a BEE 🐝 You described me exactly.... perfectionist, crafter with everything sorted into little containers and happy when everything is labelled and put back where it belongs. The labels help me visually, and sometimes my non bee husband reads them, instead of asking me where things go. Had a laugh at the reference to crafts no longer used, as 6 months seems bit short. I will admit the latch rug that has been unfinished for nearly 40 years is a tad too long 🙃 but I am reluctant to admit defeat to throw it out and I have to wait till the browns and oranges of the 70's come back for anyone else to want it.

Hey Cass, Please ENJOY every minute of it with Milo!! My son is grown and has a family of his own. I promise one day you will totally miss hearing MOM yells. Fingerprints everywhere, needing you to help him with everything ect, ect. I think boys grow up and really become more independent and don’t need you as much. I think girls always seem to need their moms even when they are grown. I know how you feel because I have been there and thought the same thing when mine was young. Just hang in there because one day you will say oh I wish they were kids again! Hanging all over me! My son and I are very close but someone told me when he was little that they grow up fast and they DO! So Enjoy 😉 this crazy 😜 life!

Thank you Cass, for this post. I'm most definitely a BEE & your entire video was just for me :) Prior to the loss of my mum, almost 8 years ago, I would have given Bree [Desperate Housewives] a run for her money! After mum's passing, my world crumbled & clutter took over in a huge way & I didn't care. It has been quite a journey for me to get to where I am today, which is feeling more inclined to have a beautiful home again. My quirky, BEE thing: if I can't ensure that ALL the containers [baskets, bins etc] will be in the same colour or style... I'm immediately put off the entire idea of reorganising, as I'd like it to look, "just so" = perfectionist. But the perfectionist me struggles against the energetic me who just wants to sort it all out [fortunately, energetic me is winning most of the battles!] I hold onto things due to my perceived value they have [especially things that belonged to my mum] = borderline hoarder [which alarms me] I'm also quite a craft-loving BEE - lots of supplies & things *SOLUTION*: I've decided to tackle my issues by doing a little bit of something every day. Whether it's shredding old documents for 20 minutes [that's when the shredder needs a break] or cleaning one drawer in a cupboard for 20 mins - I have to do something, over & above my cleaning, to bring order. I've implemented this idea since the beginning of the year & it's becoming a routine = happy BonniBee, as I see progress every day. I'm also tracking it in my Bullet Journal, which gives me a sense of accomplishment & satisfaction, that I'm rising above this situation. It's also beating the 'paralysis' that used to settle over me... "there's so much to do & will I ever get it done?" At this time, the statement "Rome wasn't built in a day" is so meaningful to me, it reminds me that I'm clearing & organising for ME & no-one else. I can work at my pace & not get overwhelmed. #LoveYourselfALittleMoreKindly

Omgosh.... That's so me too... Thank you for your message about your Mum, I've been stuck in a rut for many years with heart break to myself personally, then my place turned into more of a mess ( and hording stuff) when our Mum passed away in 2018... I've been strong for my older sister but that sort of put my own pain in the sidelines... Still feels like yesterday that she left us... I didn't have a care with my home for a long time, but this year it's going to be different for me and my home... Need to clean up and sort and declutter. Cheers from Australia

This is so me! Oh my God, what a relief. I could never figure out how I could be so completely organized when it came to certain areas of my life, like work and school, but my home was (is) a disaster zone. So cute your story about your son.😂😂. When my girl was little I used to stay by her, petting her till she fell asleep, I put low soft music for her (still do ). So it was starting to be time consuming, like thinking of the kitchen I still had to tidy up etc., so I started to say, "just one more music" and she'd say "no , three more" this went on for forever until eventually it got to be just a goodnight kiss . She's eleven now but still there are nights she convinces me to stay longer. I'm sure I'll miss these moments.😭

I love the video and I love you put your kids first! They do grow up. I miss my summers with my kids doing all kinds of free stuff. 🤣 Museums, free movies, swimming, .25 cent ice cream cones at a real dairy. Savor the moments. I know kids can drive us crazy at times, so worth it! My son was our first and he did the same things as your’s is. I think girls are tougher growing up. Omg! You nailed it! This is totally me! I have been binge watching your channel for about 2 weeks now. We just bought a house and I have always struggled with organizing and clutter and letting go. So I am making myself find a system that will help me keep our house harmonious. I've been listening to your channel while driving, and as I am sorting and purging and organizing. This is the most progress I've made in forever. I am a mother of 2, a preschool montessori teacher and a crafter/hobbieist......so I hold on to way too much, admittedly. I'M A BEE no doubt about it. I've been retired for one year, but always have been a BEE. I love to label things and have CLEAR jars, containers, totes, etc. If I don't see it, I don't know I have it. TWO Weeks ago we moved to a different State so the past 4 months have been doing a Upack and my craft room and studio were the first to be packed. I'm going nuts not creating and next week when we move into a new home, my craft room will be established, and I'll be busy as a BEE , pun intended, lol setting up and organizing. continued. I did have to let go of hundreds of items while packing tho...so, I took approximately 13 trips to the Senior Center with them so seniors would have an abundance of crafts to explore. They were so grateful and I in turn, felt very at peace. I wanted to make my own clay beads, so purchased all new molds, toaster oven to bake them in, pasta machine, and on...and on...did I use them ever? NO...So, those at the senior center will have a blast. Anyway, thanks so much for sharing. I've watched many of Alexandra's videos...she's great...Happy crafting all. I'll soon be back in my 'hive' buzzing along and creating up a storm. Blessings, ~ ALANA ~

I think I am a bee. I need to see things otherwise I forget where they are and I am happiest if they are micro organized. Decluttering at last and limiting my stuff by what is important and the space I have. Its making me more productive too.😊😊. I do go back and redo the system every 4-5 mths if it is not working well and try a new method. Slowly my home is going from chaos to clean. For other members in my family the organising system just has to be easy to use and put back. Your channel and journey has inspired me . Thank you !!

You’re right - I LOVE bookshelves, peg boards, and hanging onto present (& past) hobbies. My current challenge is that I live in an apartment that has V limited storage space and no garage. Needless to say, “installing” anything that requires more than a tiny nail is NOT an option. The organisational side of me loves the notion of clear stacking bins & labels, but the visual/ antique-loving side of me recoils at the sight of all that plastic. Oh - did I mention I’m on rather a budget, due to serious health issues? ;) So, suggestions tailored to RENTERS would be eagerly welcomed! Thanks.

Awww I love your channel and we need your encouragement not to feel overwhelmed and blame ourselves when we have small children undoing our "organizing". Also your son sounds absolutely adorable and yes please wipe off the snow from his cheek. My youngest son has now discovered "daddy" and he wants to to everything with him ONLY. So he puts me out of the room or wants him to play with him all the time and mommy can't play!!! hhahaha, he somehow formed a "boys tree house" without the actual tree house but it definitely has the "Mom's not allowed" signed nailed on the door...So enjoy it! We can wait while you enjoy theme moments. Love your videos and podcasts.

Cracking up so hard over this cause you're describing my husband's whole personality to a T 🤣🤣 especially when you said they'll take the time to sort screws, my husband has spent probably hours just sorting nuts bolts and screws, meanwhile his entire work space is a wreck cause he hasn't first taken care of the macro categories

I have kept my grandfather's leather tooling tools for over 20 years, and I am now learning to use them, and am going to be making leather stuff to put on etsy! I also haven't done any origami or paper projects in quite a few months, but when I wanted to make sleeves for recipe cards to send my kids, I had craft papers, and also have been using them to put Etsy gift messages in my packages I ship out! So we actually do use the stuff, and I would not have the money right now to go out and buy more. But what you say can be true for a lot of things we keep!

I think I used to be a Bee 100% with the need to see everything, my hobbies and baking, and reluctance to let go. I've changed as I've hit mid-life though and am now a ladybug. I just need an easy system but tucked away behind closed doors. I have also learned to let go of things pretty easily, so I personally feel we change over time as our life and needs change.

This I've found is the most resourceful and budget saving. Yes! Definitely part Bee as a mom trying to plan for a second baby and what to keep. I did manage to get rid of 6 small boxes of kid/Baby stuff reducing books and toys the past few days! It's great!

Six months isn't long enough with craft supplies to determine if it'll be used again or not. I'm a cold weather knitter and crocheter so I absolutely go months without touching my yarn. I think most crafters have things they cycle through doing. I only make soap every other year or so, but if I got rid of my soap molds and cutters I'd have to rebuy them every time I wanted to make soap or just never make soap again. This is part of the reason why I've struggled with decluttering in the past, BUT I have figured it out! These videos have helped a lot.

I have been so looking forward to this series, as I find it hard to live with myself because I am a combination of different bugs. This was so rewarding to watch because I could finally say someone "GETS" me, so thank you SO MUCH for that, Cass!! So far, I see myself in both butterfly and bee categories. I am a perfectionist and do delay in organizing until I can do it "right". I hate clutter but still have it. I have anxiety about having too many things and not enough things. I keep things for sentimental and practical purposes which creates hoarder danger! I want to display and decorate certain things, but want the messier or not streamlined things hidden in closed storage. A prime example of the ideal storage situation for me in the kitchen would be a hutch where I could display my small teapot collection on an upper shelf, but could have everything else behind closed doors. I would actually prefer to cover glass doors with material to avoid seeing the contents. This is a challenge; however because I am an out of sight, out of mind person. My friend's hutch always looks cluttered and it drives me nuts. I am very visual but because of my anxiety, I want to look around and see clutter-free but tactfully decorated surfaces. I also have ADD which is why I can't have too much visual stimulation lol. I do not enjoy open storage because of dust. Kitchens with floating storage freak me out. I can't wait to see the next 2 videos and the ones you do of combinations. This is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO helpful!! Thank you so much, Cass. My friends simply do not understand my dilemmas.

I must be a bee because I love to procrastinate. And I love to organize. I am not yet divorced and live by myself. I love having company but I'm okay with the mess because I just haven't finished setting up my systems yet. But I'm also a butterfly because paperwork just isn't on my radar. So I do find the butterfly style of dump and go works really well for me. I am learning a lot from this master class and I really appreciate your class.

I feel so seen finally! I'm almost 100% a Bee and have struggled with all this my entire life. But my mom is 100% a Ladybug and so some of her methods are helpful but other times when something is just shoved somewhere it gives me anxiety. I would rather leave it out to be put away later than put it in the wrong space. But now that I know what why we clash it is so much easier to just pick and choose what parts I need to choose her style with. This honestly made me feel so much better

@@13101s 😱 I would have been so pissed! And like lost and confused. I am constantly forgetting things and losing them because people "put them away". Which is just shoving them random places that don't even make logical sense. I'm like stop touching my things! please 😭 I think people always find it weird that my house is such a disaster but my work space is pristine. I cannot work in a disorganized area. And if anyone moves anything then I freak out cause I put everything in a specific place so I know where to find it and I can pick up right where I left off even if a ton of time has passed. I have ADHD so I set everything up in a way where if I get distracted I can kind of reset my brain and refocus by looking at the things around me. Especially in a work setting. But that means having everything out in the open and it makes some people anxious cause it looks cluttered. When in actual fact it's extremely organized

I tend to be a ButterBee. I have learned to organize in large groups until I can micro organize. I have always referred to micro organizing as my "putzing time". I get cranky when I get so busy, I don't have time to putz. So, I try to include time for putzing each week. Putzing helps keep me more organized and it reduces my stress levels......I can flit along as a happy, busy little Bee.

I watched 2 episodes of "Hot Mess House" and Just listening to your descriptions I decided I was a "Butterfly" When I took the test that's what it revealed about me! At 72, I not only need to get myself "organized" but I also need to clean out 50+ years of life so my kids don't have to do it after I'm gone. Baby steps for me, but something to do every day!

My husband is a bee!!! This description fits him so well!! He has three major, and a bajillion minor hobbies. He literally has at least 4 times the amount of stuff that I (cricket) do. I'm re-organizing our house, starting with a living room. I've been trying to figure this part of him out for a couple years now, lol, trying different systems. Definitely using this info for creating a system that works for the both of us and our kids. Don't know if this will work but definitely give it a whirl!

Funny story: when we went shopping for containers for the storage, he wanted the see-through bins, I wanted non-see-through bins that are labeled and color-coded. Now I can figure out happy-mediums: see-through totes with labeled color-coordinated paper on the front face for open shelves, or closed-in shelving where you can just open the doors with all see-through containers.

I know some of it is just the age, but it sounds like Milo really values and craves Quality Time like I do. Being intentional about spending time with him (preferably alone doing what he wants) will help this a lot - not entirely of course... Also it may be a good time to teach him about "The Boy Who Cried Wolf"; even going as far as ignoring his cries no matter how extreme they sound. (I would have a system in place with your daughters that they will let you know if he is in actual trouble or have some cameras around that you can check just in case) Hopefully that would teach him to save those cries for real emergencies and you spending quality time with him will show him that he doesn't need to scream for your attention and devoted time. I know you're a great mom and probably already doing this, but I had to speak up since he sounds a bit like me :P

When I started to learn about organizing, I watched Alejandra's videos. For a long time it felt overwhelming to even create those systems. I always felt those were so many stuffs and I will no way maintain a detailed system like that. But I had no clue about these bug types at that point of time. When I started watching your organizing style and doitonadime, I immediately felt it was easy and sounds so me. After this video series, I am able to connect the dots and understand why certain organizing styles didn't work or even feel it will work to begin with. (I am a ladybug)

I’m just seeing this video for the first time. Super justifier, here. Watching this video made me realize that I need to throw out all of my art supplies from when I went to college for interior design. It was 20 years ago, and I’m holding onto everything because the markers alone were hundreds of dollars. But I haven’t touched them in 20 years 🤦🏻‍♀️

Yep I'm a bee! But I've learned to finally let go of things I'd been hoarding for 5 years or more. Things I might "need" to make that one amazing thing that I never attempted or completed lol Its awful! But I have found now I get more enjoyment of letting go then holding on. I think at heart I'll always be a bee, but I'm striving to be more of a mindful and simple bee. I can't do labels and if I see how much stuff I've collected it's too much of an eyesore though I don't want anything hidden either. Oh the struggle! Lol Thanks for this series!

I took the clutterbug test, and at first I was surprised that I was a bee, because I'm not crafty and don't have lots of hobbies, but when I saw this video where you mentioned Alejandra, I understand that I'm most definetly a bee, I like to organize my things EXACTLY like Alejandra (love her video "the most organized home in America, and I binge watched all of her videos), and when I set up a successful system I keep it tidy because I like to admire my system like forever and put things back in and play with my super organized systems. Where there is no system it's chaos because things don't have a home to put it back in and I tend to let the clutter be clutter even though it bothers me a lot. I dont like to tidy up on a daily basis, but I love time consuming perfect organizing for future tidyness 😅 I'd love to have the most organized home in my country, and have realized that for me to achieve that I have to declutter a lot, I can not put clutter into system and expect to keep it tidy, I would not admire a system containing clutter and hence not enjoy putting it back = more chaos. Edit: After watching the video on organizing for ladybugs, I think I to some degree am a butterfly as well, I LOVE the entryway and command centre in the ladybug video. I never put my jacket away in the closet so I got rid of the closet, and I have butterfly-type clutter 😅
