I mean, it could be worse... You could have been asked to spend half an hour trying to painstakingly draw what Soulmon looked like before being shown a photomash that was probably completed in 5 minutes. Poor Julia... she didn't deserve that.
@@gregorymirabella1423 The youtube channel Drawfee makes videos where the hosts draw various things. In one episode, where they were tasked with drawing digimon they had never heard of, the events described in webbowser8832's comment occurred.
@@gregorymirabella1423There's a RU-vid show/channel called Drawfee. (look it up if you like really good drawings about really silly things) One episode a bit back was "guess the Digimon based on what it evolves from" and the final picture (following two that follow the frequent Digimon logic of "vague and tenuous connection") was Soulmon from Bakemon, given to their resident nightmare crafter and "monster mom" Julia. You've presumably watched the whole video and as such know what both of those look like...
In other countries (including Japan) "soccer" is known as "FOOTball". So Footmon is a double reference, not just what body part is used, but the name of the sport. (For those who don't know what we call "football" is known as "American Football")
Soccer is called "サッカー", pronounced "sakkā", in Japan, mostly due to American influences after WW2. Also, the proper name of "American football" is actually "gridiron football".
Kuma is japanese for Bear, and I'm pretty sure Digimon World 3 came out before it showed up in an english-translated anime. Probably why. Even more confusing when you realize there was a digimon in Season 4 that they localized as Kumamon(Chackmon in japan).
I already knew that they're called Bearmon in future English releases, but I'm still calling it Kumamon because DMW3 was my childhood game. Plus, Kumamon just sounds cooler imo..
@@imranzaidi1486 Yeah... they ran into an issue since Kumamon is the localized name of Chackmon, the Human Spirit if Ice. Due to the fact that Kumamon was used in Digimon World 3 and then months later in the same year, Kumamon was used in Digimon Frontier... they had to choose between them and Frontier won. Then they made him Bearmon in English. I guess they though, Chackmon was a stretch. It comes from Chakuhyou, which means Ice Accretion in JP. Ice Accretion is how layers of ice form on objects in cold weather. They couldn't come up with anything to translate, so they came up with Kumamon... its unfortunate since the game localization and the anime localization most likely worked on the project at the same time and nothing was shared between the teams since it seemed like a non problem.
5:45 to be fair, since canonically only a few digimon have an devolution line made especifically for them and almost any digimon can evolve into any other digimon given the right circunstances, you could say that all digimons are related to each other
Just wanted to say I've been really loving these as a huge Digimon fan(got every point!)! I'm definitely going to check out the Pokemon vids next. Soulmon is definitely a meme, but Nico was half-right in a way. Witchmon IS an actual Digimon and the lore behind Soulmon is literally that it absorbed "mage data" from a game and became a mage! I'd love to see some more newer Digimon from the Adventure 2020-Ghost Game era. Naming conventions in Digimon are pretty inconsistent and so is a lot of the localization/translation
I still feel troubled and sad that Footmon of all Figimon doesn't have a proper appearance on any product appart from the TCG. And the sad thing is that Footmon is a winning of an original Digimon contest, it was made by fans and became canon.
Here's an evil suggestion... do the Black Agumon line. Maybe even include the two bonus Omnimon Evolutions. BlackAgumon, Agumon (Black), Agumon Darkness Mode, Agumon (Virus) etc.
can't wait for them to see more digimon that look the same but with different colors like the 2 other gabumon lookin' ones (dont wanna say names incase you use it and they see this)
Drawfee had a great episode with Digimon that involved Bakemon and Soulmon. Karina loves Digimon, YuGiOh, etc. And none of the other Drawfee crew know very much at all about Digimon besides Karina herself. The context is funnier in the video, and the episode I think was one where they drew Digimon they have never seen before based on their name. Karina gave someone Soulmon and gave the context that they Digivolve from Bakemon. But the setup throughout the video makes it sooo funny.
As a fan of both, I am glad to share some info on these guys. Footmon - Football and was from a children design contest made official. Hookmon - legit a Peter Pan reference. It evolves into CaptainHookmon and forms a core team with Tinkermon and Petermon. Funny that Captainhookmon is the gOod guy of the trio. Petermon wants to take baby Digimon to a land where they can never evolve. Bearmon is Bearmon and Bearmon is a Bear. Mushroomon is Mushroomon and Mushroomon is a Mushroom. It was also called Mushmon Bakemon is a pun off the word Bakemono which is the japanese word for ghost or monster. Soulmon was made as a alt color for Bakemon. It references another Vpet that has to do with magical girls. They actually then made a series of digimon based upon it like Wizardmon.
One of the things Ghost Game did right is following the lore of the antagonists REALLY well. Petermon in that episode was doing that exactly. It takes the idea of Peter Pan and makes you think... this would be TERRIFYING in real life. CaptainHookmon coming in at the end and being the adult that Petermon could trust is just the cherry on top. Wish Tinkermon was there too just for the trio.
Soccer is called "サッカー" (sakkā) in Japan, and the US is _not_ the only English-speaking country that calls it that. It's also called soccer in Canada, Australia, New Zealand (though "football" has become more popular in NZ within the last 20 years), South Africa, and most of Ireland. Hell, the term "soccer" originated at Oxford University in _England._
"Afraid they'd say Hookmon is part of the Agumon Line...." Digimon Card St-826 Hookmon can Digivolve from Agumon lol Hookmon however is not listed as Digivolving from Toy Agumon. But can digivolve from Yuki Agumon
That's because the lines for the Digimon World 3 originals were themed around weapon type than anything else. The other two got fully appropriate champion forms at least, but Monmon's has nothing in common except ranged weapons. Monkey with slingshot - pirate with hand cannon - centaur with machine guns - dinosaur with artillery cannons
Wow, a lot of people who didn't take five seconds to fact check before running their mouths. The United States is _not_ the only country that calls association football "soccer". In fact, the term originated at Oxford University and is used by pretty much every English-speaking country _except_ the UK, as well as South Africa and most of East Asia. In particular, Japan calls it "サッカー" (sakkā). Try actually learning your shit before talking, people.
Yay! I got them all right. Thank you khan ex your digi knowledge saved me with soulmon. I went with footmon because i think only American call it soccer while the rest call it football. Man with bearmon i was wondering if they were going to say Kumamon and bearmon both are right just one is Japanese and am sure was used in digimon world 3. Since that was my first digimon game and am pretty sure they used Kumamon in that game.
It's not only Americans, it's pretty much all of the former British colonies (because "soccer" is actually a term that originated in England to differentiate between association football and rugby football in everyday speech), and the Japanese call it "サッカー", romanized as "sakkā".
I mean, pokemon does the japanese naming as well and it's kept in some translations. Pikachu is the best example. Pika is the word for light, and chu is the onomatopoeia of a mouse's squeak. Bakemon is from Obake and Bakemono, so monster ghost.
Also is this a bad time to mention how the localizers butcher the names half the time until recently as they started going towards the japanese names more and more now. I mean there are 2 Falcomons and there's Hououmon and Phoenixmon which are the same digimon with the japanese name for phoenix (hou ou) and the literal translation of Phoenix.
Only by virtue of Captain Crunch being a Horatio Hornblower reference. His full name is Horatio Magellan Crunch, and I played him in a Dungeons and Dragons campaign about cereal mascots a few months prior to our recording of this video.
@@ChangedMyNameFinally69 I have not, but it sounds wild. Would you believe me if I told you the final boss of the campaign was Count Chocula, and Tony the Tiger was our team's barbarian?
Omg I’m so stupid. I was like ,, tripmon ? Probably not tripping but maybe from Tripophobya if this is how the fear of holes is called. I mean it has Spehres on it but no holes … hm ,, Person say : ,,if it was tripmon 😂😂😂 ,, Me : ,, hm ? ……. OHHHHH ,,
Footmon is not soccermon because the sport is called football around the world. And soulmon exist because in the digimon world game your digimon is always with you and to make different the one you got and the wild ones, they make recolors, or in this case, just put a hat on it xD
"They make no sense" - most of them are obvious descriptions what you're talking about Also you can totally see this are americans because they didn't understand Footmon comes from "Football".
Footmon is named after "football," which is what it is called everywhere that isn't the US (aka, in Japan). He was on the Vital Bracelet as part of the Pulsemon evolution line, who has a bunch of Evos based on sports and athletics.
The Japanese word for soccer is "サッカー": "sakkā", and that's also what the sport is called in most English-speaking countries, including Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. This is because the term "soccer" was originally a _British_ term, which led to its use in the former colonies. Japan is the exception, the term "sakkā" came around because of American influences in the aftermath of World War II.
Japan does not call it football, they call it "サッカー" (sakkā). Also, it's not just the U.S. that calls it that. The term "soccer" originated at Oxford University (you know, in England?) and is the primary name for the sport in Canada, Australia, New Zealand (though "football" has come into more common usage in NZ over the last 20 years), South Africa, most of Ireland, and a good chunk of East Asia.
