Hey there, creator of the Ashe vid here. Bronze players on Soldier will just run it down mid all match, Hanzo and Widows can't hit a shot. This is why I recommend Ashe, because other DPS can find success by just running out down, teaching bad habits, and other DPS like Widow are very punishing and can demotivate new players. Ashe, in my opinion, feels like she always has consistent impact, especially thanks to Bob, to keep people motivated, but also forces you to learn positioning and cooldown management. 100% agree with Flats on the Ashe vid. Learn the maps, after that, go watch a little bit of A10's educational content to better understand map concepts. That way, as you learn the characters from here, you're naturally falling into decent positions and have space to take in and understand abilities and cooldowns.

Okay, the problem with fun tanks being bad is that most tanks are fun to play in moderation. And the moment tank becomes the tank of the season and you have to play it all the time, it stops being fun. Especially since some tanks are meta not because they're strong but because either they work with most characters, or they work well with currently meta characters, so you're not playing it because it is giving you opportunities for fun or good plays, you play it because you other people will have good plays. With other roles making some characters stronger than other creates rotation, with tank it doesn't work as well due to tank being single, as well as other roles having build in counters to some tanks. The balance of this game is being held by half eaten bandaid and dreams of woodland creatures.

Thats last hot take from Flats is so true. Whenever I’m playing support the rein players are so happy they have a lucio, and so are winton players for Ana. I really think OW should educate the playerbase about ideal comps and synergies somehow.

Hot take: the reason people keep losing is because I only play quickplay, so when heavily competitive people come to play quickplay and see me being silly on Sombra or Ashe just vibing they get mad and tell me to switch. My brother in Christ there is 17 seconds left in the game, me switching at the very last second isn’t gonna win us the game magically when the team has their robot pushed to our spawn

Flats be making it a 1v4 vote to counterpick. Winstons primary fire needs a buff i think. His damage should be buffed to be a little more even with the amount of healing that typically goes into enemies in an engagement.

lol funny thing is ashe was my first hero just bc she was first on the list. my idea was well gotta start somewhere so i started at the front. luckily my skills from other games like val actually translated pretty well to ashe at first allowing me to learn the game while having at least some value just bc i could kill people. overall wouldnt recommend thought lol.

I play tank and honestly the people who never synergies in rank is the dps they'll go ashe with no mercy or go hanzo and can't hit crap. Plus Flats the best team comp right now is clearly D.va,Tracer,Sombra,Brig, and Kiri

People nowadays refuse to play what the majority of the team is playing comp wise. The amount of times I've seen a lw and or a mercy when most of the team is on dive is painful. If people actually enabled each other instead of "helping", things would go much smoother.

I agree with you in the last point that yeah they play soldier and cass while we're dive but the point of the boring tank I disagree with you I actually enjoy playing hog buffed nerfed and every situation

Personal opinion on "fun" tanks is that what Flats said is true, but only because you'll have around three or four tanks meta at the same time.

I think people like a challenge. If a tank (or any hero) is too over powered it's boring to play as and oppressive to play against. While if a tank is underpowered it becomes more challenging and therefore more rewarding when you do well. Same when you are in a match and the enemy swaps to counter you and you mop the floor with them. Any time you are in a scenario that you should lose but you don't makes you feel like you are better and more skilled at the game and/or hero. So you have more fun.

11:10 I always liked hog, went to mid gm in OW1 with him, before the 20 nerfs and changes. On the contrary, I never liked DPSFist but I like tankfist. Unfortunately, it's borderline throwing to play doomfist if the enemy has orisa or hog. Ball and Dva were never fun and always oppressive and annoying.

im a flex player flats is 100% when he says people dont make good suport and dps comps . It is not something that only affects tanks, but they are the most affected, bc they cant do anything without a follow up. DPS are good if you wanna pew pew pow pow and suport if you just wanna chill,but tank is good if you want a challenge , if you want to tryhard and suffer a bit

For the last vid, I think it's more of not people wanting to talk about it. It's more of no one knows who works best with who and blames it on the single tank that's "supposed" to carry the game.

My support hot take is that ignoring the other roles they’re the most balanced, as they’re pretty much all viable. They should try to buff up tank and dps to a similar level where any tank/dps is a decent pick. Unlike now. Instead of nerfing supports to be in a bad state like the other roles are.

The "correct" comp can also be extremely situational. For example, the default dive comp is what Flats mentioned. However, other options like Ana Zen are viable, albeit a greedy support line, when the enemy plays a Rush comp and not a dive. Brig doesn't need to protect the Ana and just stands there doing nothing. You could make an argument that she could pack the DPS like Genji and Tracer but at that point, Zen could be a better option especially with the 5 second buff to harmony. Though I do get that rank players are not going to necessary want or know how to play optimal picks i.e. forcing Mercy in full dive

Wait, what's wrong with Ana/Mercy? Isn't it a variant of dive to run Mercy with Pharah/Soldier/Echo to off-angle on your dives, while Mercy can use GA to peel Ana if she gets dove? That used to be run all the time in OW1 and I still see it in OW2 scrims (at least at the 3k level), although I see a lot more Ana/Kiri in dive comps..

For most people, "Playing Meta" is a waste of time. Play what you want/are good at, not what "the Comp" needs. 99.9% of players are nowhere near good enough to say that their main hero choice is the limiting factor to their success. Most players get more mileage being particularly good at a small group of heroes rather than being "OK" at a large swathe of the cast. Learning a single hero extensively means you learn how to play in suboptimal conditions, like when the enemy team is running your counter, or when your team doesn't fit your hero's desired playstyle.

Genuine question for that last take. If the tank wants to play dive, the dps want to play poke, and the supports are split, who decides which comp they will play? If it's always the tank, you run the risk of tyrannical tanks forcing entire teams down the playstyle they want to play every game, but if it's not, the tank is left just flex picking every game, which isn't fair to them.

As Ashe main, the coach gun is a good one if you are trying to escape with low health. It'll create distance and put people on fire. It's a rare occasion but it's worth using sometimes.

The last take is the best ive heard in a long time, DPS players can usually get away with playing whatever hero they want as long as its not complete garbage, tanks cant do that but they have options but since the support mindset is still so heavily healing focused, no one seems to think about what their heroes kit is. Its almost as if support players see bap, moira, ana, kiriko and mercy as the same hero just because they heal quite a bit.

Hell, people even tell me to swap and have reported me for playing lucio in quick play. I don't think you understand how messed up the majority of the community actually is lmfao. I apologize to all my tanks who take heat for being bad when I have to switch to Zen to make up for dmg dropping the ball even though I know an Ana or Kiri would do better. One must trust in the instincts of the meat shield to make best use of the balls

As a noob player I always see my tank trying to 1v5 the whole team over and over and push past an objective by themselves to get instantly killed and I kind of agree with the blame tank players thing because me vs a random tank I always play with the team and they never do but maybe it's just a low skill level type thing lol

I love playing as Lucio he is SO FUN with his movement and ability to make his team uber-aggressive even though he's not my main, if I see our tank pick Rein I will pick Lucio 100% of the time and get flamed by my teammates for not picking a heal bot even though they have no idea how many times I've pulled them out of fights thay they would surely have died if I didn't speed boost them out of it

Dude really blamed the tank role as a whole? Bruh I mostly play Support-- and bc of how OP it has been, when one of the supports isn't dominating via kills + heals THAT loses the game. Soldier doing bad? Play Bap. Enemy Sniper wrecking your DPS? Go Illari. I HATE touching the DPS role rn bc any support can outplay you if they're sweating for the kill. But when I go Junker Queen on Tank role instead of Orisa/Ram I generally win those games bc I'm aggressive AF to the point that my Supports are killing their back-line while I spam "I have bodies to bag." Really, really can't wait for my role to return to SUPPORTING instead of always having to carry for damage and kills. Not even a brag, it's not fun to be the "everything" role that's supposed to be 1/3 roles with SOME hybrid-ability on select heroes.

I've been big into Overwatch lately, and am just learning to aim. I watched several hours of Ashe tutorial type stuff and no one actually said what you said about shooting the dynamite. Wow it isn't impossible like I thought. No worries I am a Soldier 76, Bastion, and Torb (aim is ass but turret op). I like practicing on all the heroes and one day I will be able to hit Torb shots in the Aim Train Custom Game, luckily no one moves around as much as the bots. Since you, Emongg, and Frogger are my go to OW content I wanted to play tank but my nerves couldn't handle it. I don't think I can do what Frogger does, it's really different. DPS is nice, I can Soldier, put out middling or better numbers but know that I didn't convert dmg into anything meaningful. While the tank is front and center, at least at your rank there are comms.

I think youre wrong about which tanks are fun = they are ass argument. Beta Orisa was fun because it was something new and different. Doom has always and will always be fun to me. Yes, a really good Doom can feel unkillable but thats because of all the CC nerfs, all highly mobile characters benefited from them being dialed back but this leads to a larger discussion on how CC wasn't ACTUALLY the problem, it was how little protection tanks had from BEING CC'd and specifically being chain CC'd. In short, add a buffer of say 1 second where after youve been CC'd you are immune to all CC effects and tada chain CC tanks in viability (Sombra still needed neutered). Ball is also incredibly fun because people love highly mobile characters and thats just a fact. Look at the most main-ed characters and its (in no particular order) Tracer, Genji, Mercy, Lucio, and the outlier is Reinhardt. He's the only one who isnt highly mobile but he feels like quintessential Overwatch and a Rein 1v1 is one of the most fun things in the entire game, people just LOVE mobility. No one wants to feel shackled to their position or forced to go around to take away high ground, just go Winston Doom DVA or Ball and MAKE them give up high ground. We all know Hog mains are just DPS players that want more HP. Tank players don't like to play Hog because he has NEVER been an actual Tank. The DPS mains picking Hog dont like when he is good because they get rolled by the Tank players who know how to protect their teams better. They like when he specifically is niche because they can play him and not get smoked in a Hog 1v1. We dont like heroes when theyre ass, we just like highly mobile characters and when the meta becomes shit like Orisa, Sig, or Ram its boring as shit but when the mobile characters get meta, they are swiftly nerfed because they can cover too much ground and just outclass any of the nonmobile tanks.
