Instead of booting your pedal to the floor you can install a switch parallel to the accelerator pedal kickdown switch. This will allow you to start off in 1st gear and hold the gear changes longer without using full throttle. Mine is a toggle switch in front of the rear hatch release knob beside the seat. (Australian delivered '87 S4 I bought from Hamiltons 30 years ago ).

What a stunning & beautiful 928S4 in the perfect colour. It’s a long time that I’ve seen one in such an impeccable original condition with full credit to previous & current owner. Have always loved the 928’s especially the S4 CS, GT & GTS. A very underrated car, but finally recognised over the last few years especially with the appreciating values. Not a fan of the auto “slug box”, as the 5 speed manual truly transforms these cars completely. Although manuals are very rare to find, would gladly have an auto in a car in such pristine condition. 15:37

I drove an 87 S4 years ago, very stable car, planted, beautiful flat torque curve, strong brakes, a confident feeling car, very safe.

Unusual to see the rear quarter mounted motorised aerial on an S4, earlier models had it there. My 87 S4 has a factory roof mounted un-motorised aerial. Mine was Hong Kong delivered though, maybe that's the difference.

That's a lovely example of a 928! My S4 is a 1987 in Grand Prix White. If you put the gear selector in 2, it will set off it first and hold it until the redline or you manually switch to 3 or D. I noticed it has a 928srus replacement hatch lock receiver like mine too!

@@OutlawGarage It's actually quite a sophisticated box. Most people think that 2 and 3 are actually the gears but they're actually modes. 2 is as I've described previously, 3 sets off in second, shifts to third at redline, but never shifts to 4th. You can also obviously switch between modes, so start in 2 for a quick getaway and then switch to 3 for your cross-country blat and then move to D for some relaxed motorway cruising.

George is a legend, great vid gents. P.S. George you can get the gearbox to start in first from rest by pulling the gear lever into 2nd then back to D. Or if you really want to go mental…select 2nd from stop, kick it in the guts and it will hold first then shift to third position and quickly back to 2nd position to change to 2nd and hold second. Weird Germans but it works! Not a Tesla though…lol

I like that no one has changed out the original wheels (variously called 'manholes' or 'seven-slots'). These cars have been in transition between being owned to drive them (modify as you wish), and being owned in a manner respecting originality. Finding 16-inch tires is sometimes a struggle, true, but they are produced in batches, so be patient. The color-matching rear wing is not original for S4's, at least not for U.S. cars - they were only put on the later GTS models.

Have you ever been in a situation where the after driving the car or it has warmed up then stop somewhere , it won't start up again until the engine has cooled , even though it never overheats or miss fire while running

Yep, I think on a 928 you are either looking at the fuel pump or fuel distributor. It can be like chasing your tail to find the problem but if the problem is persistent they you should be able to find it.

Note how he continually pulls the seatbelt away from his neck. Was a known niggle in these cars. Imagine, paying enough for a suburban house to buy one of these and getting sealtbelt rash on your neck.

100%. The 911 is the poor man's 928. Sorry - I gotta call balls and strikes. the 928 was European "Car" of the Year 1979. No other sports car including the 911 has ever won "Car" of the year. The 928 has won 2 production car land speed record at Bonneville (1986 and 2020) - the 911 has exactly won none. Even 911 enthusiast Magnus Walker has started his 928 collection - its Now or Never for the 928 still the biggest bang for the buck in classic Porsches. Singer/RWB/RUF could easily reimagine 928s - its just a matter of time before someone specializes in customizing and outlawing 928s - There is no substitute.
