One good thing doing a fluid and filter change is that you would at least get to see onside the pan. If you noticed excessive clutch debri in the pan, chances are your T/Convertor coming apart which set that code so ide say go for it..Thanks for watching..PLEASE LIKE THE VIDEO AND SUBSCRIBE TO THE CHANNEL, THANKS

My friend, I assume this a 62TE trans. The front pump very hard to tell by a visual inspection that problems are about to occur, i mean, you can open it up and look at the veins but a rule of thumb here is, if the TConv getting replaced, the Pump getting replaced..Man good luck with tackling this job yourself..Please like the video and subscribe to the channel for me, thanks

Thank you so much for really explaining how the torque converter works and also explaining about the pump influence on it. I have an Acura MDX 2002 and I had the p0740 code. It says torque converter clutch solenoid circuit/ open. Is this cold automatically the whole torque converter or could it be just one of the solenoid circuit that need to be changed out. Could you do a video on the solenoid circuits
@OnlineMechanicTips
@OnlineMechanicTips 4 года назад
I sure can but keep in mind, a torque converter clutch circuit malfunction is what sets the code P0740. Different cars may have different steps for diagnosis. The TCM controls the torque converter clutch. When disengaged, the TCC locks the converter to the turbine shaft - creating a 1 to 1 ratio between the transmission and engine to prevent slippage. If the clutch slips multiple times, then code P0470 will be set. So 99% of the time (at least for Chrysler/Dodge) It has been the complete T/Conv assembly thats the cause

Good explanation What’s your take on P0744? 2001 Nissan Maxima with 203k miles. It was shifting very blandly I did a drain and fill ATF (synthetic) and 1 bottle of Lucus . I cleared the code and drove the car. It was much better and got same code after 70 miles. Continued to drive car and the shifting and driving got better the more it was driven. After 300 miles it was almost back to normal. When I did the ATF drain and fill the fluid was black/brown. No metal shavings or Metallic tint to the fluid. It also didn’t smell burnt. Will the code just go away in the future. I may just clear it again since it is driving much better now. Would this be the connector wiring harness or the TCC inside the transmission which is only replaced by replacing all solenoids with repair kit Nissan Part No.: 31940-80X25 SOLENOID REPAIR KIT - CONTROL VALVE About. $77-120 part

Online Mechanic Tips Just wanted to give a update for you It seems that the ATF drain fill (Valvoline max life ATF and Lucus) has at least temporarily fixed the problem. It’s not out of the woods yet. But it’s driving and shifting the best it has in years. 70 miles post service. Light came back on 300 miles post service was driving a lot better but still not that good 600 mile post service was even better It’s now at 900+ miles and is about back to normal. I manually cleared the code to see if it comes back again. So far so good. I have a feeling the cause was sticking TCC solenoid and other solenoids and or valves. From dirty ATF. Bare with me , up until 2008 I had alway drove a stick shift since I learned to drive .

What if I'm getting this code on the 2015 Dodge Durango and it only has 93 k miles on it? I went to other transmission shops and they kept saying I need to change the alternator and transmission and everything almost $4,000. But they'll just turn off the check engine light and don't do anything else. I really feel like it's more of me having a lot of debris in there and they keep turning off the check engine light and wanted me to come back and wants the truck can barely drive or break down so I can get all that money, that I do not have. What is my easiest fix for the situation?

@OnlineMechanicTips 4 года назад
Hey my friend, can I get you to subscribe to the channel and click the bell for me, thanks..Now, first off, the transmission in your 2007 van is a 41TE A604. The trans in this video is a 62TE but the code means basically the same thing..You cant reprogram the solenoid pack, but you can reprogram the TCM/PCM and when you did that, you simply cleared the memory, thats why it appears to work fine for awhile. As soon as the TCM sees the problem with that T/Conv, it will set again and turn on the light. Theres really no way to check the T/Conv but you can make sure its not being restricted or starve do to a clogged filter or dirty fluid

I bought a 2001 journey a week ago. It started up fine moved ok . It had a little wine under the hood. I started looking at your videos and I had no engine light. I drove it about four miles and noise got louder and then wouldn't move. I checked for codes which had a po868 and 731. I went ahead and changed the transmission oil and filter. Started up again and all was sweet. Shifts great!!!! Went for a ride for few miles now I have a code po 740. Which means noise for torque converter. I don't have any noises at all now. @@OnlineMechanicTips no but I will subscribe. Yes, it is an old truck but I really like it and plan to build it but these irritating issues had slowed progress lol. I've had the pan off, no metal shavings, it looks good inside, I just wonder if the TCC solenoid is going bad causing the converter to lock up as soon as I put it in gear,(the reason for trying to put in a manual bypass switch). Do you think the TCC solenoid would cause a problem like this?
@ReadySetAutismFamily
@ReadySetAutismFamily 4 года назад
We just bought a 2013 town and country. The check engine light came on a few miles after leaving the car lot. It's been a nightmare the past few days trying to figure out if this is serious or not. 129k miles on and it shifts very smooth but that engine light will come on soon after resetting the codes. The owner of the dealer said he will go 50/50 since it was sold as is. He sent me to a transmission shop he recommended and they said they have to drop the transmission and that's $600. After watching your video it's kind of clear it's the torque converter. Do the vehicles usually show any symptoms with the P0740? Could it possibly just be a solenoid or sensor if no transmission symptoms exist? Thanks for great video!!!!
@OnlineMechanicTips

Hello my friend, thanks for watching. The P0740 found on the 62TE transmission hardly gives off any kind of symptoms, just that annoying check engine light. I'm having a similar problem. I think it's a screen inside one of the passage ways leading into on of the modules getting clogged with clutch material. I saw a youtube video showing it. Or somehow get the modules/solenoids popped out to clean them up.

Hey bud, that is because it is extremely risky to predict if that would fix it. A lot of shops would just rather replace the transmission unit all together. Thanks for watching, please sub the channel for me, thanks

2005 T&C.....I have a P0740 and P0700 code..... I have no debris on the magnet in the pan.... I have absolutely no symptoms while driving (no slipping, no shudder, no nothing drives just fine)........ I changed fluid and filter..... CEL stayed off for a month then came back on................ what gives?

The clutches inside the T conv worn out

@@OnlineMechanicTips So replacing the T converter will fix that??? I have replaced transmissions and torque converter before..... Dysport converter has 357 thousand miles on it.... And it is the original torque converter and we are trying to just get it down the road for about another year before we replace the vehicle.

If you a doing a warranty job the old converter comes out and the new one goes in.
@OnlineMechanicTips
@OnlineMechanicTips 2 года назад
Sure bud, also keep in mind, if its warranty, they will also pay for the front pump. Now extended warranty different. If they say just replace the T/Conv, you do that. You not responsible for the diagnostics at that point

Hello my friend, please subscribe to the channel for me and click the bell, thanks. Listen, depending on the severity of a T/Conv failure you have, it can bogg down the engine and stall it out.. If you remove your trans pan and see excessive clutch material in the pan, its likely your T/Conv coming apart
@emanuelrodriguez10
@emanuelrodriguez10 4 года назад
what does excessive clutch material look like?
@OnlineMechanicTips
@OnlineMechanicTips 4 года назад
@@emanuelrodriguez10 Hello my friend, when clutches wear out, they tend to leave debri and clutch material behind. It likely end up in the pan around the magnet. Of this is your case, this is likely why the code set..Take a look at this video here.: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JDZhFACtDGU.html

There’s debris in all Torq converters if there’s no slipping it’s probably the sensor.
@OnlineMechanicTips
@OnlineMechanicTips 2 года назад
Ive never replaced that sensor my friend, all 2 decades of working on this transmission. But I would say this, its the easier of the 2 and its also in-expensive. So knowing that, I would def try your option first and see what happens.
