thinking small here, It is the LLM run robotics that will do things most people can't even comprehend. It isn't just the ability to take out the trash and cook dinner. It is the emergent abilities that they will develop. To be your cook / cleaner / lawyer / home security / teacher / work force ... making people who are disabled mobile now.. so many things it is hard to quantify. When your bot is earning 6 figures because it is doing services for not only you but others.

I have this vision of an Optimus walking into the bedroom, opening the curtains to greet the day and removing the dishes from dinner. It washes the dishes and prepares bacon and eggs, toast and coffee. Then brings them back to the bed, setting the tray in front of the decaying corpse of the owner and cheerfully walks off to dust the living room... "Oppenprimer"

Dear brothers, people! With the advent of these robots, I would like to share a very important thought. We are entering a new era. And do not forget that man is imperfect. As a person with progressive views, I am glad that the future is coming to us at a moderate pace, but I am not without skepticism. Firstly. Let's not jump into transhumanism. Let's remain imperfect people, otherwise we may face an existential crisis. Secondly. Man is an interesting creature. Full of secrets. A person is prone to commit inappropriate actions. Look at these robots. Wouldn't a person be tempted to remake or reprogram this robot for his own insidious and unfriendly purposes? Let's be honest. We won't live forever. At the very least, I would not want to be part of a totalitarian system of a single mind or the like. I don't want to be controlled from the outside. I don’t want machines to thoroughly predict human behavior, eventually to the point that, out of ill will, only us of free will can do so. Think about whether these helpers are applicable and how ready we are to be in a society with a high degree of tension and problems. Now there is a war in my country, with our brothers. And the brothers are already talking about how battle robots will soon be brought to them. Are you ready for UBER ALLES? Me not. I am against war. I am for the withdrawal of troops. However, I do not support any side, and especially do not want the apocalypse to spread throughout the whole world. Please. Let's send these robots into space. Build cities on Mars. Explore other worlds. We will ask AI to reveal to us the riddles of space-time, travel throughout the universe and beyond, if there is still room for our species and our type of mind. But let's not run ahead of the locomotive. Let's not let the child play with a grenade, let's wait until he grows up. Thank you for your attention. Best wishes.

About 6-8 years ago, commenting after a FORBES article about self driving cars, we had a similar conversation like this. I wrote: „I just don't need a self driving car, I'm enjoying driving my car, and I could not imagine to sit on the passenger side.” I also wrote: „Whether my next car will be electric or conventional will solely be decided by the price. I don't need a lot of comfort, it has to be affordable.” On the other hand, my enthusiasm for a humanoid robot is immense. I would buy at least two of those for my household. Its face has to be a bit more human-like, and it has to be capable of human voice communication to make it culturally a better fit in my environment.

The real answer is that Optimus has more in common with the Honda Asimo than with the BD Atlas. Asimo and Optimus use a method of balancing called an "inverted pendulum" this requires each footfall to be precise and for the robot to balance over top of the ankle. Compare that to most of the other humanoids on the market that have lineage with BD and Marc Raiberts' leg lab at MIT, all of which use a "dynamic pogo stick" algorithm. Humanoid companies like BD, Agility Robotics, Figure, Unitree, and Apptronics all share this modern walking algorithm which allows them to balance on unpredictable surfaces.

I think a key aspect that this video overlooks is that BD's robots are real, do real things, and are constantly shown interacting with real people, while Tesla's robot is only seen with real people when it's attached to a harness and doing very little, while everything else is clearly CGI. The "squats" video? CGI. The yoga video? CGI. The egg video? CGI. I'm pretty sure even the t-shirt folding video is CGI.

Also you have to think back to the day Elon first introduced the Tesla bot, even though it was just a human in a robot suit, it also was doing a lot of human like movements like dancing. And if you'd payed attention to the legs in that introduction, it didn't have the bent knees, my point is, there's a great chance that the finished product may not have bent knees as well.

I think that the compressibility of a hydraulic fluid, allows for a more fluidity of movement as opposed to an electric geared or harmonic drive of electric actuators in the case of that of the stabilization of a carried item. When the arms are at length holding an item, that item needs to be in a hierarchy for the focus of that item for stabilization, where the rest of the systems moves to stabilize the transverse or transfer of the objects weight or momentum from one location to another. In general movement of the head of the robot should be focused on the hierarchy of stabilization throughout the general movement of the entire system to ensure fluidity and life like precision. This is seen in in the biology of many life forms today. Birds for example: A hawk or an eagle move their heads independently from their bodies while hunting down a prey. Once caught, their talons bring the food to their mouths. I could go on, but I think this could perk some responses.

Wrong about "bent knees". The most energy efficient mode of travel for any biped is doing a locked knee, eg placing the foreward leg, locking the knee, then "falling over" the foreward leg by leaning weight forward and using the trailing foot to push over the center of balance. I know, i trained for months to enter a walking marathon (40 km). Rules absolutely require locking the knee of each leg on every step, else not walking. Why robots don't? I suspect they lack the controls and joints required to do it. They will eventually, the energy saving is huge.
@thesoundsmith
@thesoundsmith 2 месяца назад
Evolution... Works the same for them as it does for us - only WAY faster😅 Bu t I thought the point of the bent knee originally was to offset their limited DOF. We still mixro-balance when we stand upright at attention, "unmoving." That is inefficient for a bot.
@lengould9262
@lengould9262 2 месяца назад
@thesoundsmith More detail by reference, svp? Google doesn't know "mixro balance". Did you mean micro-balance? If so, locked knees are still far more energy efficient than using muscles to sustain our weight with bent knees.

Honestly: I do not think they are SUPPOSED to walk naturally for now. The Rationale: Human beings by nature tend to fear the unknown, what they do not understand, and almost instinctively laugh at that which struggles to do what most do with ease. Kinda like the way acctreses willl trip and fall to make them seem average and likeable, though they tend to be the lead in a movie. So yeah, I'm sure they can walk normally, but they are on Infant mode until we lose our fear of their presence and what they can do. Peace ✌️

Part of accepting a humanoid robot around real people is believability, or rather, it moves exactly like we do. We are on the right track for this, but, while I understand why the knees are bent, this is a huge distraction when viewing the robot walk.eventually the systems must improve so that the walk of a robot is in distinguishable from a human

How the author stresses hydraulic oil leakage as a problem is somewhat odd as all machinery, planes and lot of other equipment depends on safe connections which seem well manageable these days. Boston Scientific must have good reason to use this source of power as they are in this business for 30 years or so.

[Good video, that is the audio, less so the video/pictures, e.g. at 14:06 (non-existent, likely CGI), while some of the robots exist (and for education it should be clear which), it detracts from the video to mix in non-real female like robots, misleading that they do exists, or will soon be sold.] Bipedal robots are probably not the future, meaning in next few years, except in factories. Tesla's are cheaper/simpler and will undercut Boston Dynamic's very expensive ones. As explained in the video, they are already struggling, selling at $150,000 is way to high, most often not competitive with humans. Mass production, and becoming household (in theory) could lower costs I guess, at least amortise development costs, but unclear will happen (at least in homes, would need to be way cheaper; than they would like to sell at), if they do not gain market share. Tesla's robots, since not very agile will be dangerous in the home, you don't want them falling on kids, and the agile robots too expensive there, but that is not needed in factories, so will not gain scale there either. Robots that can cook (but not taste the food...), i.e. hand attached to the ceiling exist already, so hypothetically at hope, more likely in restaurants, for now, or for home-delivered food. Many robots such as those and on wheels or even flying might be coming, but for bipedal, seems like the human body with its biological advantage can't be matched for a few years (cheaply).

How long does it take Optimus to walk up a set of stairs? Can it stop on the stairs turn around and walk back down if there is an emergency? What if a child or animal rushes past Optimus while it's on the stairs and brushes against it? Have we even seen Optimus navigate a set of stairs, all I've seen is slow walking on very level flat surfaces.

Fast twitch fibres which act as muscles, with a fibre optic nevous system, surely will be better than either electric motors or hydraulics. But for now, both hydraulics and electric motor systems will go far. It'll be great to see huge hydraulic earth moving robots with power and strength, and equally great to see the delicate manipulation and precision of motorized electric robots.

*Real World Tools require struggle…* In order for an autonomous humanoid robot to have any value in a factory, the robot needs to be able to use Real World Tools. However, such tools, even when they are top-of-the-line AND brand new, always require *struggle.* For example, consider the Jacob's chuck of a hand drill. After you tighten a drill bit in the chuck, you then start the drilling task, at which point the bit will probably demonstrate some rotational SLIP. You then have to STOP drilling, immediately followed by re-tightening the drill bit in the chuck. Once re-tightened, you immediately resume drilling. The intelligence of a robot won't be able to duplicate this. A robot's intelligence won't be able to assess that... • the drill bit is rotationally slipping; • excessive rotational slip is unacceptable; • the cause of the rotational slip is due to a need for more Chuck Tightening; • at the very least, the drilling operation needs to CEASE; • the drill bit needs to be repositioned and retightened (within the Chuck); • the Drill Key (which is used to tighten the Jacob's chuck), will always SLIP, even if the drill is top-of-the-line and brand new; • once the drill bit is suitably retightened, the drilling operation needs to resume. □ In other words, the task of using a Real World Tool always includes the need *to struggle* with the tool. The intelligence needed to efficiently perform such struggle goes way beyond what the intelligence of an autonomous humanoid robot is capable of.

hydraulics will win in most demanding strength applications, like making hands with equivalent strength to humans. They may end up winning overall in long run as well as batteries get cheaper and more energy dense, because motors and gears are more limited in power/torque, particularly in most strength dependent applications.

Human experience the same impact difference between walking straight legs and bending ones. Try it. We usually walk naturally with a little bending knees which is hard to visually perceive to absorb the impact, at the same time increase efficiency, and to keep our balance better. Watch the marching band or uniformed soldiers with straight legs and see how much force they spend and impact on the ground. They look seriously good but not very efficient.

Holding back Atlas how long charge lasts and the hydraulics it's not very practical but they work well in a ways of course but there's other robots out there better than Atlas it's not not because it's Optimus but the Tesla bot definitely is one of the better or the best ones or will be soon if it ain't already Like somebody already said here when AI in quantum computing merge look out ...

Herbert Hoover's famous political slogan: 'A chicken in every pot and a car in every garage.' Bush's could have been: 'An oil well in every front yard.' Musk's will be: 'At least one humanoid robot and an electric car for everyone.'

What @karlmahlmann said But whoever sets up the LEASING Company will be the SECOND Elon Musk... This is not a device you want to purchase when it first arrives. We will be Beta Testers. Happily, but five years after its general release what comes off the production line will be like a Tesla S Plaid compared to this Model T - Ford Model T. Stronger, faster, quieter, probably a few more DOF in critical areas and with faster, better-trained processors... (But I want one _anyway!_ 🙄)

Either ai kills us or we upload our consciousness to robots and become cyborgs. i robot or cyberpunk 2077 or animatrix or chappie I only see 4 choices…

Repeats the false statement of Optimus speed of 6.5mph, actually about half that. Maximum design speed goal is 5mph.
@TeslaCarWorld
@TeslaCarWorld 2 месяца назад
The speed has been confirmed by multiple sources to be 5 mph. With the latest Gen 2 version, Tesla has increased the speed by 30%, and it is entirely possible to achieve 6.5 mph, at least as far as we know.

Do you think that in 2035 with the advent of AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) and ASI (Super Artificial Intelligence) they will introduce universal basic income!? a subsidy!? there will be free will!? an era of abundance will begin!? the intellectual and motor capabilities of robots have already surpassed the average human and before 2035 there is talk of them surpassing those of any human and then again those of any human combined! regarding both body and mind! answer me please...
@TeslaCarWorld
@TeslaCarWorld 2 месяца назад
We are not sure! Predicting specific situations like that is difficult. In the future, the emergence of AGI and ASI could bring about significant changes, but the existence of universal basic income, subsidies, free will, and an era of prosperity depends entirely on various factors, including how society and politics respond to these changes. Additionally, the scenario of robots surpassing human intelligence and mobility is one that requires careful study and could potentially lead to substantial societal and economic transformations. Thank you
