I was born via a planned cesarean section, and my parents planned to play "summertime" from porgy and bess as I came into the world. However, they told me that at the crucial moment, the cassette player wouldn't play the tape they brought, so the nurse turned on the radio and I arrived to the sound of Queen's "we will rock you" instead.

Recommendation from a c-section mom of twins: get a post-partum band that has a velcro closure. It helps keep everything tucked in when you sneeze, cough, laugh, look at something wrong, breathe, etc. Also hold a pillow to your c-section site when you sneeze, etc. Helps make everything a bit less painful.

Briana Colegrove - Yes very best wishes to both parents... But let's not forget that emotions are exactly the same as for heterosexual parents-to-be... Either if a person is hetro/homo sexual let's not forget that we r all part of the Human Race - I find it tedious that minority groups of any catagory sometimes not only, quite rightly, want to have equality but become prejudice themselves against "normal" people; look at the great Nelson Mandela, after all his prison term when other coloured people wanted avengence on the whites he stated that he wanted what he'd fought for & won, that is equality, but not racism against whites

@@susanmargaretwills6432 hey i understand where you are coming from, but a few points. They didn't say anything about straight people not being as happy to have a child. Gay people are still discriminated against in nearly every country and having a child is either extremely hard or an impossibility for a lot of same-sex couples, so it's perfectly normal for a gay person to see a same sex couple that is expecting and get excited, because they may be able to see themselves in them or hope that one day that could be them. (Apologies for the run-on sentence) Having people say "but straight people feel the same emotions feels like tone policing and it's not the best way to go about this. I myself am more excited to see Jessica and Claudia have a child as a gay couples because where i live it is going to be very hard for me to adopt. It's legal for adoption agencies that take federal and state money to turn us away on religious grounds even if they aren't run by a certain religious institution(and someone could kill me and claim gay panic in my state and get off/a reduced sentence so that's another thing that shows equality is just fucking not here.) Equality isn't here yet so please don't get up in arms about us be a liiiittle more excited to see lesbian moms (something represented waaaaaay less in movies, tv shows, etc. Name five shows or movies you've watched where the lead has two moms. I'm certain you can name dozens or hundreds where the lead has a mommy and daddy). We want equality, but we don't have it yet so this is a win!! This is why we might be more excited. I promise I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I've seen a lot of "straight people do this too" over the internet and I know they do, but i wanted to explain why some lgbt may be more excited/talk more when people from their community do it. Simply because you see waaaaaaaaaaay more straight couple representation so seeing a couple like us/the couple we want to be do the thing it's really exciting!! It makes us think "oh crap that could be me!!!" That's important. I hope this explains why without feeling too preachy? Have a lovely day 😘 😊

@@serioussleuth6677 - hey there I'm not "up in arms" with you or most of the homosexual folk - just SOME of them (like as also in the hetero sphere)... I live in Italy (but I'm British-born) and this couldn't be a more non-discriminative (& non-rascist) nation - even the Pope (who is more Catholic than he?) has blessed homosexual couples, & civil gay marriages have been legal for a while now; when discussing with my friends my argument is "if 2 people like each other & want to get wed then why not?" - "oh but marriage is for procreation" is the response - well I know a bunch of couples who have no intention of having kids or max just one baby (cos money is needed for the couple's luxury goods & holidays & this is their concern)... consequence - Italy has the lowest birthrate in the WORLD and a huge population of elderly... disastrous; even the once proliferous Immigrant population (eg North Africans) r no longer having large families... This is all a bit off track from ur comment but shows how times r moving I think & soon (like in UK) we'll surely see legal adoptions 4 gay couples; just by the way even tho it's completely irrelevant I'm straight with 3 kids & 6 grandchildren PS here in Italy we have loads of pubblicity on TV showing gay couples kissing

You think that you'll feel all shy breastfeeding until you need to do it. My experience was that I lost most of my modesty after about the first 24 hours of cluster feeding while waiting for my milk to come in. Seriously, the kid would just not stop eating, so I just pretty much always had a boob out. Baby's gotta eat, and mama gets tired of clipping her nursing bra up so much and ends up walking around with a boob out quite often (tip: do a boob check whenever company walks in the door). Even after his feeding schedule calmed down (after a couple months), I would cover up with a blanket if I was in public and thought people around me would feel uncomfortable, but usually it was like "eh, whatever".

13:38 - did you know those baby things with the split top, crossed shoulder bits are made that way so if the baby has a really messy diaper and everything from the waist down is completely full of shite, you can pull the baby's arms out and roll the thing down rather than pulling the whole mess up over the baby's head? I never knew that until my kid was way past the age of wearing snap-bottom baby clothes.

I’m so so happy for you both! I have some experience with C-Sections! I’ve had 2. First one was an emergency after 12 hours of labor and ended with baby in distress. The second 3 years later was planned. You may hear women say “C section is the easy way out” NO! NOPE! NOT! The pain and healing is easier naturally (most of the time) if you can do it naturally but some of us can’t. One thing that helped so much was with my second baby the hospital gave me an elastic waist trainer looking thing to tightly wrap around my mid section after surgery. It holds the incision and the extra skin in place so it doesn’t sag and pull on your incision. It was a life saver and made all the difference! I highly recommend! Also breast feeding is great BUT it didn’t work for me. I felt like a failure. With the second one I understood that I couldn’t produce enough milk and it was so much better for me mentally. They were formula fed and grew up happy, healthy and very smart. Don’t be hard on your self if things don’t go exactly as you planned because babies do what they want! Lol. 😂 Good luck ladies, you are gonna do great!
@Lisa_Flowers
@Lisa_Flowers 3 года назад
I mean, even if c-sections were easier why would people give those who have them a hard time? Wouldn't you want to have an easier birthing experience (presuming there are no overly negative side effects for you in particular having a c-section).
@Lisa_Flowers
@Lisa_Flowers 3 года назад
@Giovanni Strider yes, I was making the point that if c-sections _were_ easier (in general, including on the body, in recovery) then that isn't really a thing to shit on people for wanting. I understand that they aren't necessarily easier, the comment I was replying to explained that, hence me saying ' _even if_ they were easier'.
@DieAlteistwiederda
@DieAlteistwiederda 3 года назад
Being cut open is definitely not the easy way out, that's full on surgery and you have to heal from having been cut open which really does take longer than recovery from a vaginal birth. Also normal contractions help the uterus to shrink back faster so that also takes longer with a c-section. Not like I want kids ever but if I would I would go for a vaginal birth and only choose a c-section if I have to.
@idek7438
@idek7438 3 года назад
I feel like mothers are always subject to a lot of judgment and criticism, whatever they do, and especially if they don't breastfeed and if they have c-sections. As long as it's in the interest of your health or your baby's health and you consulted with medical professionals beforehand, it's okay. People love to be judgmental assholes and you can never please everyone. So just do your best and ignore what everyone else says.
@lynnwilliams8295

@@Lisa_Flowers no one really gave me a hard time about the elective one I had with the second but I did! I beat myself up because no women in my immediate family had ever had one. So I felt like I failed some how. But the Dr explained medically why I couldn’t and that it wasn’t my fault and I did nothing wrong. So the second one was a piece of cake compared to the first. As long as baby is ok then I’m ok with it.

Fellow C Section mom: Just be prepared, around day two/three the nerve pain will come and it will hit hard. I needed my husband to give me a shower and walk me to and from the restroom because I couldn't do it myself. Even with COVID he was able to stay with me in post partum, so this was very helpful. I couldn't have made it the four days without him there. Most hospitals (at least in the states, not sure about UK) will have diapers/wipes/disposable mesh undies/maternity pads that you can use and they let you bring the extra home with you. As a secondary note, bring formula with you. My baby would not latch, so breastfeeding was immensely difficult. I pumped in the hospital and gave him whatever I could, but I had to supplement with formula because he was not getting enough. It's just worth it to be safe, the hospital will really push for breastfeeding and if it isn't working, you may need to advocate for yourself.

2 months ago, I had to go through labor and recovery mostly alone. We have a 1-year-old daughter who wasn't allowed to even set foot into the hospital due to COVID. We have no family here, and due to me starting a new remote job less than a year ago, I had never met any of my coworkers in the area to form enough of a bond to have one of them watch my child. Once our long-distance family heard of this they felt so bad that my husband would completely miss the birth of our son. My parents planned to make an 11-hour drive closer to my due date, but my water broke 3 weeks before my due date. Luckily the day of my labor my husband's aunt drove 5 hours last minute to watch our daughter. Once my husband was able to make it, our son was born within 10 minutes of his arrival. During the days of recovery, I was mostly alone, but that solitude allowed me to really bond with my son in a different way than I had with my daughter. When you're without Jessica, just focus on the precious person you two created. Don't forget about your nurses, they are there to care for you. Good luck and I am so excited for you guys!

So sorry Jessica has to leave, I can't imagine going through that. Sticky on the breast pads goes on the bra. I loved the reusable ones and don't rely on your bra padding cause you don't want to sit in a wet bra that the milk starts stinking, also the manual pump is nice on the go and in emergencies but I was much happier with the heavy duty electric pump, only took about 15 minutes to pump and really got all the milk out., especially important for me as I didn't produce a lot of milk.

Okay, so I have 4 kids and need to impart the only piece of advice I feel qualified to give lol. Zippers >>>> snaps Snaps are a gigantic pain during middle of the night feedings and diaper changes. I’m so excited for you guys! Best of luck with everything!

This!! And even better are the ones with a zipper at the top and bottom so you don’t have to undress them more than you need to

I believe their snaps are magnetic, as Jessica struggles to grip small objects like zippers and magnet snaps

Yes!!!! And now they have the zippers that unzip from bottom or top to make diaper changes easier!

I finally found someone who's allergic to aloe vera. I'm the only person I've ever met or (up till now) heard of who is. Everyone always boggles when I tell them I'm allergic to it... "but it's natural" ... "but its so pure"... Its also surprisingly hard to find beauty products without it, especially higher quality ones.

If I had a penny for each time I've had to explain that "natural" actually means that you are more likely to react badly than clean and consistently produced artificials....

@@annejeppesen160 ah yes, the naturalistic fallacy. There's a great quote in a Terry Pratchett novel where one character offers another a wart cure "wonderful stuff, all natural, not like a doctor'd give you." "What's it made of?" "Arsenic." "Arsenic?" "Very natural sir. And green." Equally annoying is the assertion that something has "chemicals" in it. Err, everything you ever encounter, from your own body to the air you breathe is "chemical."
