I do actually appreciate the info she's giving (though maybe on 2x speed) because I'm a therapist. The simple fact that you had trouble sitting through her explanations is a great example of why no therapist should be "training" life coaches. Most of what she is discussing is renamed concepts from basic cognitive behavioral therapy with some bits taken from family systems concepts. Jessica Danielle also looked at the connexions parenting book and it was awful. Full of "distortions" or "myths" that basically said parents should go ahead and expect more out of their kids than is developmentally appropriate. My point is, aside from basic therapy concepts done badly, the parenting component of Jodi's teachings was always completely devoid of compassion. It basically expected kids to be blindly obedient, be able to regulate their emotions intuitively, and attributed every behavior to manipulation. It was there in the trainings so whatever she says, it should've been obvious that a 3 year old throwing a tantrum isn't in "distortion"- they're just learning to handle their feelings. All the connections parenting crap was aimed at making overwhelmed parents who had too many kids too young feel better for being angry at their kids rather than teaching effective parenting.

22:20 - exactly why we stopped going to our Ward! We had an 18 year old daughter that had been intimate with her boyfriend. What happened when the “boyfriend” confessed was all blamed on my child and she had to go through a repentance process. The bishop would not allow me into the meetings because she was 18. She hated the church but continued the repentance process… after the year she had done all the things (workbook, fasting, reading scripture, praying) that were required of her. The boyfriend did NOTHING! Not one damn thing! My daughter was blamed for keeping this young man from the mission field. (Yuck!) We have not stepped foot in the Mormon church since. I will not ever… a woman should never be the sole blame for any sin… regardless! I still believe in some of the Mormon teachings; however, those were things I have always believed… so it doesn’t impact me. As a family we now read the Bible together, we pray together, and we have dinner together at least once a week (family home evening). My daughter has excelled in life. She’s a nurse studying to be a CRNA. She’s now 27. I’m so very proud of her… I’m proud of us. We attend a small non-denominational church once in a while but we not regular attendees.

It bothers me that she uses the phrase “dark person”. It’s proof she’s still using words from being in a cult. Lori and Chad Daybell also use the word “dark person”.

As a previous member of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints, she is using what we call Primary voice or Relief Society voice. I also hear this voice when listening to the Evangelical women speak, it is a quiet submissive voice. It is a voice of keep sweet and obey.

I Grew up Mormon. The church teaches you that you have to become perfect in order to be with your family or God in the next life. You have to be perfectly obedient to the leaders to be 'perfect' in God's eyes. Power is given out, and acceptance is tied to the ones who appear the most obedient and perfect to the leaders. And how much money you have. This causes EVERYONE in the church to develop a facade so they can get power, and be accepted. Nobody can be perfect, so they try to APPEAR perfect and obedient. She also talks about wanting 'to have peace.' That's the bait on the string that Jodi (and the church) will promise, but can't deliver. There is no peace in the Mormon church. Because you'll never be perfect. You will always be chasing the elusive peace, because they don't really teach a forgiving, kind, accepting Jesus. They can't. Because they want control. You can't control people and give them peace. I suspect the real reason she's doing this is because her image has been damaged, and there's no worse thing for a Mormon. That's why the parents ran off on a mission ASAP, because that's going to make all the Mormons think their righteousness isn't in question. The church gives their stamp of approval, so they must be good! Paige had gained lots of money and power and image in the church. It was probably all in danger at this point, because your business is usually tied to your image in the church in Utah too. Networking is big here. So she had to come out and try to save her image.
