Finally a good review of this camera. Most youtubers film themselfes more than the camera.

This is a great camera for travel or just to carry with you all the time. Good quality in a tiny package. On the other hand, not including a charger with a camera is like charging extra for a lens hood with a lens. I bought extra batteries and the extra charger, so the camera isn't out of action for three hours while it charges.

Excellent video but it’s a shame no mic jack. Fair and an honest review. It’s appreciated. I own the GX7 which is fine for most occasions but not large print or fine art images. If you only upload to social media the GX7 and the reviewed camera are ideal.

I really don't know if I should go with this one or the Sony A6300. I'll be mostly shooting videos in music studio, such as the ones on my channel. What do you think? Thank you!

Your reviews are some of the best I've seen! Thank you! I'm trying to decide on the Gx85 or the Olympus Em10 markii. Mainly as a side camera to my Nikon d7200. Something I can just grab and go and get good shots of family parties, street shots, and casual photography. Any recommendations? Thank you again

My only major complaint about this camera (after upgrading from a GX1) is that the mode selector dial tends to easily get switched to a new setting because of its placement at the edge of the camera body. This was not so much of an issue with my GX1 because the mode selector was positioned more towards the center of the camera, next to the hot shoe. Because of this, I find that the first thing I do when getting ready to use the camera is check to see if the camera is check that I'm still in aperture mode. It is somewhat annoying, but given the other features of the camera, I'm willing to overlook this minor issue.

nice review as always - yes the naming is not helpful for consumers - I really enjoy my GX85 - loaded with features - with the 42.5mm F1.7 with IS is a nice combo - or the 25mm F1.4 - Reasonably priced - nice small size - great IBIS - I find my GX85 with the 42.5mm F1.2 with IS - gives good results - say vs compared to my A6000 or A6300 with say a F3.5mm lens or even an F1.8 lens - I find that using the F1.2 lens with iso 3200 vs my A6000 with F1.8 pushing iso 6400 - give very competitive results - Sony lacks F1.4 and F1.2 native lenses - for E APS-C - and IBIS is not in the A6000 or A6300 - no Dual IS - So yes it has a smaller sensor - but no AA filter helps - also the fantastic IBIS / dual IS - works great and also makes up for the smaller sensor - as well as there are some nice F1.2 and F1.4 and F1.7/F1/8 lenses that also help make up for the smaller sensor - Like I said - also own the NEX7 A6000 and A6300 - and yes a super nice sensor in all - specifically the A6300 - but the super IBIS/Dual IS with a fast M43 lens and no AA filter helps make up a bit for the smaller sensor - yes the GX80/85 is not perfect :) no such camera exists - but for the money and the nice layout with so many Fn buttons and features like the 4k modes - just makes the GX85 a pleasant cameras to use at a very reasonable price - with a huge lens selection - To me - highly recommend My gripe with the E- APS-C line from Sony is poor support for native Sony branded lenses - No Touch LCD (except A6500 which of course is double the cost) But they certainly have a super nice sensor -

I am thinking of stepping up from smartphone photography and get into the world of mirror less cameras. Would you recommend gx80/85 or Sony a6300 to a beginner like me?
@Camerahoarders
@Camerahoarders 6 лет назад
Depending what you shoot. Sony has better low light performance and upgrade path toward full frame. It also can produce a bit shallower depth of field because of bigger sensor. Panasonic has overall better lenses (especially more affordable models) and should be easier to use and set up.

hi,nice video as always! i wanted to ask if for exemple,buy a lumix gx80 with 8500 shutter count for 400euros is a good deal or not?
@Camerahoarders
@Camerahoarders 7 лет назад
That's around 200 EUros cheaper than brand new, I would say this is fine deal. 8,5k shutter count is not a lot especially since when working in electronic shutter mode, shutter count becomes irrelevant.

Enjoyed your review. Could I ask if the ibis effect is visible when composing shots through the evf or lcd?
@Camerahoarders
@Camerahoarders 6 лет назад
When you half press shutter button it is visible, otherwise IBIS is not active all of the time.

For mainly stills, would you recommend this or the G7?
@Camerahoarders
@Camerahoarders 7 лет назад
This. Smaller, rangefinder style EVF position, stabilized sensor + supports Dual OIS, I prefer tilt LCD for photography (shooting from the hip while fully articulated on G7 is better for video). Otherwise very similar specs.

awesome and informative review! what do you think about the image quality of the GX80 compared to the GH5 for 4k videos.. except for the higher framerates that the GH5 can push? and how about the photo image quality? :)
@Camerahoarders
@Camerahoarders 7 лет назад
I'd say it is surprisingly similar, especially since I personally wouldn't often use GH5's high bitrates or flat profiles (big files). For photo GH5 is a bit better but not by much... it will depend more on you skill than which of these two cameras you have, but this has become the case for most modern cameras. It has really become hard to find one that doesn't have high image quality nowadays.
@marsiosos

thank you so much for your reply! that sounds amazing...I think the GX80 is so tempting especially with its IBIS

Great little camera. Been using it for 2 years, mostly happy with it, i built up a good primes and zooms collection for different occasions. Since younused both, can you compare the image quality of GX80 an the G9... I know they're different beasts, G9 is a bigger pro body, but I miss the dslr ergonomics... So I wonder is there a signicifant image quality difference worth the 600eur used price.... I plan to keep the GX80 for portability, but use G9 for landscapes and occasional indoor birthday parties, baptisms and similar. Thank you! Hvala unaprijed na odgovoru. 😊
@Camerahoarders
@Camerahoarders 2 месяца назад
Nothing really significant... Both have great colors and similar (not great) high ISO. Shadow recovery is better on G9 but again not a big difference. Everything else is miles apart... EVF, handling, build quality, features, high res mode, better video, battery etc. G9 is a bargain at current prices, go for it. It will be a future classic camera.
@nkb11
@nkb11 2 месяца назад
@@Camerahoarders Yeah, I know, it's already a "classic", something like Nikon D750 or 5Dmk4 in their class, a workhorse with great value... The prices of used Nikon Z5 are dropping way below 1000eur, but again the glass is bigger and much more expensive... Decisions decisions, GAS kicked in like i-VTEC :)

Best alternative with the same sensor quality but better image quality also in low light is the LX100. Though it has a fixed lense and no touchscreen or sensor stabilizer. It is way cheaper and delivers better out of the box quality.

I just shoot prime lenses. would you chose this camera over the Fujifilm XT20?
@Camerahoarders
@Camerahoarders 7 лет назад
Although I haven't tried X-T20, I would rather go in micro 4/3 system - I prefer lens choice, smaller dimensions and consistent AF performance between cameras and lenses. Fuji depends a lot which lens is used and some primes can be notoriously slow.

Even at the loss of image quality? I find the 43 sensor IQ is not up to par to APS-C, especially at DR. I still own the Pana/leica 25mm f/1.4 and the 20mm, so I was wondering if I should give M43 another try. Thanks

What is better Sony a6000 or Panasonic LUMIX GX85 or Fujifilm X 70? Which lens is better to buy?
@Camerahoarders
@Camerahoarders 7 лет назад
Fuji is a fixed lens camera, A6000 and GX85 are interchangeable lens cameras, could you live with one lens on Fuji? Between Sony and Panasonic, Sony has better high ISO, but Panasonic has 4K video, touch LCD and better lens selection (for my taste).

Camerahoarders Hey, thanks for a detailed review! And what do you think about my situation: so far I've been using Sony NEX 5N camera for my photo and video work (mainly some short films for my quasi-film school and videos/photos from holidays etc.). Then I've got my self a Sony Action Cam (AS200) which maxes out at 1080p/50Mbs with the great XAVC-S codec and I've started using it as my main cam on holidays trips as it's so compact and still have pretty nice image video quality. But now I'm missing 4K and thought that I will get the highest model of Action Cam, the X3000 which has 4K, 1080@120p and a grear feature of optical stabilisation which works great. But then I thought to myself that maybe it will be better to get the most compact micro 4/3 or other mirrorless camera. And this GX80 popped out. I think it should fit in my pocket - even jeans' one. I just wish it had 120p mode in 1080p... But generally for amateur-semiprofessional videos from trips and just life it is a very good choice I guess, right? What do you think about this? Will the GX80's autofocus be enough? I'm also leaning towards this lens you've testes here, the 12-32 as it's just one of the smallest ones but I definitely should get myself sth with much more wide apperature. Maybe a 12-35 f/2.8? I heard that the 20/1.7 pancake's AF is too bad for video. Anyway, thanks again for a great review, cheers!
