Canucks fan here, no fight has no consequence to me but the fact that Simmonds, stands up to Engelland after taking a puck to the eye not too long ago, shows what he will do for his team.. kudos to him

As a Blues fan, love seeing Schenn pull some great antics. I never realized Vatali was the Penguin who laid the massive hit to start that round of festivities. Vitali is on the radio covering Blues games now & also does the intermission recaps on the Jumbotron in the arena. His personality is pretty much perfect ro be the color commentary guy.

We need more guys like Asham and Rinaldo back in the league

you play to the final horn, enough said, these 4th liners are your energy guys which bring hype n they probably play like 5 minutes a game, they're trying their hardest no matter what. If i had a guy lined up perfectly im not really looking at the time

People need to stop arguing whether it was a clean hit. It was. Now take the context of the hit, and can anyone honestly say it wasn't instigating? I'm sure Vitale had no idea that blindsiding Briere with a minute left in the game and his own team down by 3 goals wasn't going to draw ANY reaction from the Flyers...Give me a break...

Wild to think this was not that long ago, the league has changed a lot. Don't get me wrong a lot of it is for the better. Much more speed and skill. However that isn't all hockey was about. There was much more grit, tenacity and physicality back in the day. And I don't mean the 80's or 90's even. Look back a decade and we had routine line brawls and casual fights off faceoffs. If you compare the stats of fighting majors from 2010 to 2021 you will see whopping 60% reduction. And the figures on body checking and hitting aren't any better. Once again the 2021 season had over 50% less recorded hits and body checks. There is less than 15 players in the league without visors, fighting and enforcement has almost been completely and tottally phased out of hockey. And it's all because of the Department Of Player Safety and their obsession with concussions and CTE and head injures. But what's funny is once again the medical information displays clearly that more often than not it's body checks or large hits that result in head injury. Not fights. With the DOPS going as it is, I imagine by 2030 the AHL and NHL could be a stick-checking only league.

Yes it was a clean hit, that is not why the Flyer's are upset. Its the fact the Pens put out their goon line when the game is all but over. Why would the coach decide to do that?

I'm not an NHL fan but I'd like to say two things: - From what I've heard, these two likely will face each other in the first round of the playoffs. I have a feeling whoever wins that series isn't going to let the other team forget it. - I love how Pierre is just standing there in the middle of the coaches' fight. Kudos to him for staying poised. If that was me I likely would have taken cover!

THANK YOU Bylsma puts his CHECKING line out there in a game that is out of reach. If he truly cared about the score ,which is the only thing that matters in a game, he would have put the leagues top scorer and eventual Ross winner out there but no to not change the score of the game but other reasons Bylsma puts out his CHECKING line.

I find it hilarious how both the Pittsburgh arena and the Flyers arena in the brawl with the Senators in 2004 played Machinehead by Bush during the closing brawls of each game. That’s just a really funny coincidence.

I hate the pens so much but I agree it was a total clean hit, shoulder to shoulder. It was just unnecessary in the fact that the game was over, this was done to most likely cause trouble, but the Flyers won last night and it looks like it'll be a good series so this doesn't matter much anymore lol.

I agree it was a clean hit in all aspects. But where I disagree is the spear part. I mean it looks like Adams gets his stick up a little and then Briere gives him a little jab. Not actually a spear because like I played center when I played roller hockey when I was younger and that kinda stuff just happens. Like I remember one game where I won the faceoff the same way and someone jabbed me with the blade of the stick but that doesn't hurt normally bc of the shoulder pads lol nice analysis though

Scott Hartnell is very very good at getting under the skin of others. When you think bully you don't think getting under skin, you think someone who is physically superior to yourself and wouldn't want to get in a fight with them. That is the broad street bullies, the Flyer's are nothing like that, they are a skilled team that uses their energy to fore check and speed to gain advantages. The Flyer's never win games by intimidation, its by their energy and skill.

I’m not a fan of either team but this was just one of those things - I can see Pittsburgh resting their stars because the game was lost - but when a 4th liner is out there and throwing hits like that with a minute left against one of their top 6, I can see why Laviolette was heated - clean hit, but a valid reason for Lavy to be heated, I mean we’re talking Asham, Vitale, and Engllund -

At NOOOO point did I say hockey didn't require skill. You said soccer is unskillful, I compared the two from the stand point of competing. EVERY EVERY EVERY single sport is about competing hockey takes no exceptions in regards to how often you give 100%. You are the one that brought in viewer base how soccer takes no skill. relaxed play, you are just stuck in the world that with 1:25 left on the clock that you can make a difference. One shift 1st line 35 seconds 2nd shift 2nd line 40 seconds split up the time nice and short. Since it wasn't going to be 100% from the Flyer's you can expect not to go hard as a Pen. They are grown men who have been playing this game for their entire lives 30, 40 seconds will end their lives.

Ok yes the hit was fine, I understand. If you watch the hit again you see Briere even had a little difficulty there so a swipe of the puck would have been simple thing to do not a hit. I know Briere didn't mind the hit all at, he knows it was clean he knows that's hockey, what every one knows that's not the right time for it. You can play extremely hard without hitting people. Look at Giroux, plays 1st team PK and man up never lays huge hits, He is just super energetic and goes hard.

ok one guy did one thing and its now a team of canabules? Like you said all teams are dirty and totally agree with that, heck I was even dirty at times. (I also played lacrosse and would hold other peoples sticks very discreetly from time to time). With that being said it doesn't mean the Flyers are dirtier than most. Again back to the reputation they inherited, I watch every game and I know i cant see everything but they do no more than any other team.

Like I said, I was screaming at the ref but he told me it didn't count as a spear. It was also about 3-4 years ago when it happened so I really wasn't as active in trying to know the rules of a sport I was playing for fun, just an angry little kid who was annoyed at the continuation of it.

Yes I'm quite aware that's how you are supposed to play EVERY single sport in the world, to the end, but anyone that has played a sport knows that you know when the game is practically over and everything you do is irrelevant in the final score that you don't go as hard as if you knew you had some say in the outcome.

A minute and some change for a couple players to skate around is nothing. The Flyers put out a second line, and a hit is not called for when the game when you said "your done at this point". That's the reason the Flyers are so upset, like i sad clean hit but uncalled for.

I am getting an unhealthy dislike for Pittsburgh teams and their fans.

Any player who is actually concerned about scoring would have tried to poke check him. Its much smarter to get the puck and have a quick turn in possession then taking the player and the puck at the same time nullifying you for a second or two allowing the defense to react to the turnover.

@Raset He did not target Briere it was a perfectly clean hit and the head was not targeted so if you played hockey you would actually know something about it.

I actually said the hit was clean, in my original comment I said it was. The point I am trying to make is there is a time and place for everything. No need for the hit, he could have just checked the puck and gotten a scoring chance, not a hit. Did you not just see what i said about all the stuff about what the Pens did? are you just going to disregard all that to justify what the pens doing as right? Ask 95% of fans of any team, they will say clean hit wrong timing.

It was hardly a goon line. It was a 4th checking squad, but hardly goon. We don't have any clear cut enforcer (except Steve Macintyre who has played all of 11 games this year). We decided to rest our top players (Geno and Sid) and top checkers (like Staal, Cooke and Kennedy) who get the bulk of the minutes in a game. We were done at this point of the game and the playoffs are about a week away.
