Guys I REALLY want to hear more about these vignettes, where players play/replay events that happened in their backstory. Please make a dedicated video. My group would love this. I wish I could meet Eric in a tavern and ply him with ale for hours to get ideas for this concept.

@@goblinsalvagerites Yes, I've thought of doing it before and didn't realize anyone else did it. I'd love to hear your ideas. Aside from that, I like how you guys bring up things about the genre that others don't. Things like vignettes, or reputation, or leadership, these are things that keep players and DMs alike interested in the game. Reminds me of Matt Coleville. Keep working; you're going places.

Part of the reason numbers are so high is because some are like “If you are a Goblin from the village of Tirefire, which has a population of 30 goblins, you might want to take the Tirefire Kaboomist archetype which is on page 237 of the Goblins Lore Book and has four archetype feats”

Mathematicians calculate a stat (HP, Level, MP, Bravery, Faith) with a number (2,3,5, Prime) and then would cast any spell the character knows from all other classes for free. Best game ever, he's a man of taste.

I think polearm you gain with runelord is actually very useful. If you start with 16 str (easy enough with versatile human with 2 armor proficiencies, which will autoscale to expert with remastered) you could take something like guisarm and just trip things, your athletics isn't nearly as far behind martials as attacks (would be same from 5 to 10 level). And giving up mapless attack from caster for trip is far better deal than from martial

Weapon improviser can be really overpowered in 1e. Shikigami Style increases your weapon die damage, and gives you enchantment bonus to hit and damage if you use magical item. A Brawler archetype lets you use your unarmed weapon strike damage for the improvised weapon so you would end up with a ioun stone that deals 6d6 damage per hit

My Top 5 1.- Beast Master Archetype, Action Economy is the King 👑 🐎 2.- Thamaturgy Archetype, Being able to use any Spell 📜 at cost of 2 feat is ridiculous. 3.- Bard Archetype, The very reliable Bardic Lore, plus access to Occult Spell List, even better that almost all Caster are Charisma Base plus Cleric that also need Charisma. 4.- Fighter Archetype, at level 20 there is not better option for melee martial characters "Certain Strike" Skyrocket the DPR of any Class. 5.- Vampire Archetype, the Spells Heightened until 9th level what is insane. Almost max level Charm, Domination and Animal Allies Spells. Plus being immortal.

@@goblinsalvagerites he is really fun, when I went dual weirder warrior at lvl 2 it threw off the main GM until he realized I was looking at one feat that made the character work. Dual weapon throwing….. dual slice is the same as twin takedown and I still got that at lvl 2. The move to sorcerer archetype once I had the CHA was kept quiet until I finally used suplcurial mask focus spell😂
@horseblinderson4747
@horseblinderson4747 9 месяцев назад
Dual Weapon Warrior fills a hole most martials don't even think it's there. Dual slice is basically the fighter equivalent of flurry of blows from the monk except instead of being action efficient it's Multi Attack Penalty efficient. Which fighters don't even have to sweat as bad as say a Rogue or a class with slower proficiency scaling like say a barbarian which would get their rage damage on two weapons. Take away that multi attack penalty with say rapiers or something with swipe like a battle ax and you have effective round damage with either crits or freebies from swipes. Could also add a shield with a boss and pick up shield block with Viking shield bearer for free if you're human or half human. There's so much to it to include throwing like the other guy said. A bandolier or chakaris give you reload 0

@@horseblinderson4747 Agreed, At the table I play at most of the martial fighters do respectable damage but are predominantly tanking. We were new to PF2E so it was a carry over mentality from 5e. We started to run a parallel campaign to the one with the ranger build I discussed and a guy at our table in the new campaign ran a barbarian dual weapon warrior and loved the attack economy he gained. It’s a good point about the chackram and bandolier. My second character skilled into the Chackram, It has been a fun campaign.

Pretty sure you need to concentrate to cast Lay on Hands or command your animal companion. So your Barbarian wouldn’t be able to cast or command while raging.
@goblinsalvagerites
@goblinsalvagerites 2 месяца назад
Lay on hands has the Somatic component, that means it gains the Manipulate trait. but it does not have the Concentrate Trait, meaning you can cast it while raging: 2e.aonprd.com/Spells.aspx?ID=395 However command animal does have the Concentrate trait meaning you cant use it while raging. But a mature animal Does get one action even when not commanded by the player. Thanks for the comment!

Yeah, I think the real appeal to archetypes isn't so much the mechanical advantages they give you (though some do help a lot), but in the storytelling or character building potentials they offer. One of my favorite characters I built with this was Lelu the Barbarian Shaman. At first she was just a typical Spirit Barbarian with some neat flavoring like she used the spirits of her ancestors to improve her strength in rage, but then I decided to make her a mummy. Why? I like mummies a lot! Then I decided that only did she die, but so did her whole tribe, and her sheer unyielding rage resurrected her from death to avenge her friends and family. Random I had from watching this was a Sleepwalker Barbarian. Whenever they rage, they fall asleep but see everyone around them as monsters or something like that, which fuels their fight response in a different way.
@goblinsalvagerites
@goblinsalvagerites 9 месяцев назад
That is an awesome spin on the mummy! Mechanically a mummy barbarian is pretty neat too, especially if you focus on unarmed strikes.

I had had an interesting idea of a Ghost Barbarian: They were in a battle during a war, but had died a death they felt was ignoble, having spent their life to that point training and wanting to be a major war hero. As a specter, their "unfinished business" is to become a legend instead of a statistic, gain the fame and acclaim that they felt was unjustly ripped away from them. An interesting caveat is that, should they become incapable of it, they might wither and become an Eidolon for a Summoner, keeping the character around but in a new context.

Awesome video, I don't get the bit about the thaumaturge though. It seems complicated to understand, but not to build, just pick an implement that helps round out your action economy to start with (Weapon, wand, bell, amulet, chalice, all seem like good picks) and make sure you have an 18 in charisma and at least a 16 in str or dex. Also take Diverse Lore because it's the most busted feat in the game. I haven't played one but was planning to, is there any 'trap' that you can fall into even if you follow those guidelines?
@goblinsalvagerites
@goblinsalvagerites Год назад
The only trap we meant to speak of is the fact that the thaumaturges ability to be a striker is not quite up to par with every other full marshal class in the game. If we compare it to the investigator, you'll find that the investigator has a way to use their key ability modifier stat, intelligence, as a way to hit and deal damage. In contrast the thaumaturge struggles in that regard. The difference is minor, but if you don't build the character with that in mind, it can be far greater than just a +1 difference. One of our friends is trying the game for the first time and chose the thaumaturge class and ended up with a fairly unoptimized character because of it. MAD (multiple attribute dependency) Is something that was supposed to have been left behind and first edition. But it seems to be creeping back in. That's all. Beyond that, the class is incredibly interesting! At this point we're rambling, but, from a build perspective, they remind me a lot of the alchemist. It's definitely not a class for Timmy's (to lean on the psychographic profiles from magic the gathering) If anything, it's a class for spikes who understand that while they may not feel that powerful or useful in the game, there. Multi-faceted nature is a great strength to any party if built to support the weaknesses of that party.

20:00 the problem is most of the undead archetypes are horrifically dogshit. Okay, sure in the book they say "you CAN give the players the ACTUAL benefits of these creatures..." but that isn't the baseline. Vampire is somehow worse than Dhampir, and Dhampir is already bad. But the other undead are just as susceptible to everything a living person is. Paizo has this issue with ancestries too. Automaton's, and even Skeletons not making any narrative sense.
@goblinsalvagerites
@goblinsalvagerites Год назад
In comparison to the other rare archetypes they are on par in power. However compared to the vampire template they are undeniably worse. But that's like comparing apples and oranges, in PF2E relative power of a choice is relative to the category with which it sits. These are archetypes, specifically rare ones. If you couch its power relative to other rare archetypes. You'll find that they are actually a little more powerful than most. The undead traits are... Pretty cool.
