Patsy Cline had one the rarest voices in the modern era. Only those who truly understand the power of her voice, her timing, her ability to hold the note, as we say, can truly appreciate her talent......she is dearly missed......dearly.....
Amen. Technically, there were, and are, better vocalists. But there's never been a better singer. Me and millions of others, we just cry when we hear her. There will NEVER be anyone BETTER at emotional expression. And don't forget, what you hear could have been the twelfth take. Musical production is technical, dry and clinical. To bring that emotion across after ten hours in a studio is more than just remarkable.
this girl is the absolute best , and this version of the Wayward Wind is is by far to date ,( and its the year 2020 now ), the greatest . There is a mystique and a loneliness to this song that Patsy completely captures in HER rendition of this song . The way she sings it makes me very much wonder, about the wanderer . Patsy's version is very emotive .
Patsy Cline remains the best female vocalist of all time, today they can make anybody sound ok and make a good singer sound great, but she was singing into a naked mike with virtually no technical augmentation
EVERY song Patsy Cline ever sang was BEYOND human...transcendent ...I listen for every tone in her voice to tell the story of each song - like this one...about a wandering man's soul.. Her spirit is ALIVE in every song. Effortless, like everything she sings is smooth comfort to the soul. TRULY UNREAL
I have never heard this song, sung by Patsy Cline before. What a treat it always is to listen to her magnificent voice. I loved it, I wish she could have stayed with us much longer. Gone way to soon, way to soon.
I am fascinated with the history of this song. I grew up hearing Patsy sing this song on an album played on a record player as a kid. I never forgot this song and what it means to me.
I'm an "old guy" - she is one of my all-time favorites, and I've heard many in person over my lifetime. She was one that only comes around in several generations.
I only new this song by Neil Young and I loved it and wandered why it wasn't such a big hit for him... now I know why. Who could top this? AMAZING singer, AMAZING voice, capturing the soul's emotions!
I absolutely loved this cover of "The Wayward Wind" by Patsy Cline. What a beautiful, haunting version of this great song. I also see that someone clicked on dislike. Oh well, if everyone appricated great music, I guess, it could get boring.
Patsy was certainly the Queen of Country Music at her death, though she was never limited to only Country music. Few, if any, singers, let alone female singers, have sold as many records, albums, and now DVD's following their death. Patsy was indeed "one of a kind." She is missed, remembered, will never be forgotten, and winning over new fans generation after generation. R.I.P. Patsy with the Thanks of millions of fans.
Patsy Cline was an incredible talent and has earned her spot at the top of country music but Kitty Wells has been and always will be the Queen of Country Music and if Patsy were alive today, she'd tell you the same thing.
Patsy was and still is the best female country singer there ever was,I am from Tenn, visited her monument at airport several times, have many relations that reside around there.
I love Patsy Cline. She was the best female singer and we lost her way to soon. She does this song very well as with all of her songs. She is certainly missed by all of us that love her and her music.
Awesome song by the best female vocalist of all time have to agree, once i hear her voice it seems to make everything right, her singing and the material as well are timeless.
im so grateful to my late father for introducing me to the music of patsy cline she was before my time but i love her music more than any other singer i have ever heard
Oh, the wayward wind is a restless wind A restless wind that yearns to wander And he was born the next of kin The next of kin to the wayward wind In a lonely shack by a railroad track He spent his younger days And I guess the sound of the outward bound Made him a slave to his wand'rin' ways Oh, the wayward wind is a restless wind A restless wind that yearns to wander And he was born the next of kin The next of kin to the wayward wind Oh, I met him there in a border town He vowed we'd never part Tho' he tried his best to settle down Now I'm alone with a broken heart Oh, the wayward wind is a restless wind A restless wind that yearns to wander And he was born the next of kin The next of kin to the wayward wind The next of kin to the wayward wind...
I've never heard this, damn she sings the hell out of this song. Compared to Gogi Grant it's night day. Patsy has so much vocal control it's a drop the mic moment. I've got shivers.
I was a dear friend of singer Wilma Burgess, and she was good friends with Patsy, and bought her house after Patsy died. Charlie left every thing there, and we always said Patsy never left that house, and her spirit was still there. Wilma said Patsy walked the hall all the time. Many!a good times was had there.
I'd never heard this version..........and, of course, it's really great..... This was an unusual type song at the time.......I used it as a talent contest trial, had only heard Gogi Grant's version........................
I live in Palm Springs-and I have a feeling this song was written here..because of the wayward winds we have at times..Patsy Cline spent some time living in Los Angeles and got a 'feel' for this song & others..thank you!
Thanks for the tip, I´ll try it! P.S-W e in Czech have one singer named Vera Spinarova. She sings many beautiful songs among them melody from movie Once upon a time in the Westwith czech lyrics and must say, that she can move wagons with her voice!!And don´t forget Brenda Lee,fourteen years old little girl with voice of fifty years old smoked black woman...:-))
Lara Fabian, singer, fabulous songwriter, artististic interpretation onstage, unbelievable voice beyond Celine Dion and level with or maybe just under that of Shirley Bassey.
I was merely an infant when this haunting song was a hit by Gogi Grant way back in '49? But Patsy's arrangement added a modulation...which, in my opinion, added a quality advancement to the song. Modulation can do that. It can refresh the chorus instantly. Nice move on part of the arranger. I'd never heard Patsy's version of this song until now.
"The Wayward Wind" is a country song written by Stanley Lebowsky and Herb Newman.[1] In 1956 versions were recorded by Gogi Grant, Tex Ritter, and Jimmy Young, of which Grant's was the biggest seller in the United States and Ritter's in the United Kingdom. The song reached No. 1 on the Cash Box chart, which combined all recorded versions, the Gogi Grant version reached No. 1 on the Billboard chart on its own. Billboard ranked it as the No. 5 song for 1956.[2] Grant's version depicted a man, who lived , in the past, in a shack by the railroad tracks, who wandered endlessly, whom the singer was in love with, until he disappeared, as the man was the "Next of kin/ to the Wayward Wind". The Gogi Grant version was noted for a female wordless chorus, sliding up and down the notes, heard at both the beginning and the ending of the song, as to depict the sound of the wayward wind blowing. In 1961, Grant's recording was reissued and reached Billboard No. 50 and Cash Box No. 78. That same year, Patsy Cline made a recording, which did not chart. In 1963 a new recording was made by Frank Ifield, which reached No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart for three weeks duration.[3] The song made the Billboard country chart in the 1980s in a version by Sylvia, with accompaniment by James Galway. Members of the Western Writers of America chose the song as one of the Top 100 Western songs of all time.[4]
This is a wonderful, poignant song. It seems that, compared to todays music and popular culture, the prevailing attitude in songs and movies back then was modesty and restraint. There is such a contrast between this song and much of the crass garbage that is offered up nowadays.
I never heard this version before but there is no comparison between the 2 vocally. Patsy has perfect pitch and her control and range is incredible. Gogi Grant was pretty much in the right place at the right time.
I like Patti page's version, better but overall I like patsy's voice on all her songs, and not juice a few, kind of like me liking all of linda ronstadt 's songs
Normally looking woman, normal dress and hair style, but absolutly and abnormal singing abilities and so it could be,no like today it is...Freeze on my back and tears in my eyes.. P.S-I know this song sung by Tex Ritter(very deeply) and cannot say who´s better..?
I've heard the Tex Ritter recording too and in my opinion it's much better, because Tex is much more powerful in his singing of it and the music is more powerful, it's a ballad. I know I'm going to get hate from people on this but Patsy Cline's singing really isn't that great, if you want to hear a really great lady singer, listen to Jo Stafford - You Keep Coming Back Like A Song or It Could Happen To You. This recording might be better if the music more grander.
