I was at work (Charlotte airport) & I walked out the breakroom & Patti Labelle was standing right in front of me surrounded by people.I was SHOOKED! I am a huuuuuugggggeee fan of the legendary Patti Labelle… I just stared at her & she asked me if I wanted a pic with her & give me the most genuine hug I would ever get from a celebrity…. That made my decade lol… & I’m not even star struck… but meeting patti Labelle & DMX was everything!!!
I am at awe. My Mom just passed away on February 22, 2021 and I have been having such a hard time. I got the urge to listen to some music on RU-vid so I chose this random video because of the title and that Patti Labelle was the singer. I mean who does not like Patti. So as I'm listening to the words I said to myself that these words are words that I could hear my Mother say to me. I continued to watch this video and I began to notice some of the Choir Members from the Adult Choir from New Hope Baptist Church in Newark N.J that my Mom and myself sang with back in the 80s that looked familiar to me. I kept watching and enjoying the video and at a glance I thought I saw my Mother so I rewound the video to look again and low and behold there was my Mother in the far left corner. She is the one in the far left corner with the short afro. I immediately burst into tears of joy. That was confirmation that my Mom is still speaking to me from the other side. I still have goose bumps. I was also a part of this recording at The Apolo Theatre in Harlem. Such a great memory.
@@patgorden5002 Thank you so much. The loss of my Mother really had me in a very low place and I did not know how I was going to get through it. But the more I miss her the more she shows me that she is still with me in Spirit and the hairs are still standing up on my body after seeing this video. I'm still speechless.
@@philippejean2345 Thank you so much! I only wish he could hear my original music. I didn't take up writing and recording until after his death. Take care, G.
@@Thollis1987 Thank you so much. I hope he knows that I am now writing and recording my own songs, which are on RU-vid. I know he would be proud. Take care and keep the music inside of you, G.
I’m sure even that dress collected a check that night cus Patti made her work, every shingle on that gown came alive! Powerful performance, Emmy worthy even! 🔥🔥🔥♥️♥️♥️
@j w George Hearn(Sweeny Todd). Not only was she nominated in 1985 but also 1986. Hell Michael Jackson didn’t win in 1983 and that Performance electrified the freaking Earth and wiped Thriller off the shelves of all stores.
Really?! She is scary. She is loud. The only "voice" she can hear is her own. Someone in the choir can do better. Next time, just tell her to read the lyrics and give the world a break. Patti LaBelle has been awful from the beginning. She was given the stage, if not, she would slash you.
I was at the BET Awards when Patti performed. Her voice, fills the entire theatre..she ain't NO JOKE. Clarity and Volume! This performance gives me chills..
Patti starts a song at the intensity that most people would love to end it. By the close of the first verse the audience is blown away. Then she just soars...
A voice that could raise the dead! Patti is a American national treasure, with a soulful sound of pain, joy and hope that could only be produced by the " unique history " of African Americans in the United States. She is one of the most underrated performers of the late 20th century. The fact that her voice, tone and control remains flawless after nearly 50 years of singing " full out " is a miracle. I can't think of any other vocalist who's voice has remained as pitch perfect as long as Ms. LaBelle's. God bless her and keep her delivering her vocal gift's to the world.
Stephen Hardy I don't disagree with your comment on that at all because she is a truly amazing singer who's voice has remained just as beautiful and maybe gotten better but for me ,Charlie Wilson comes to mind when thinking of who else's voice has remained so well over time
I love Patti, don't get me wrong, but she started losing her pitch when she hit 70 - she is off key a lot now, but she is still rocks anyway!! The amazing live performances she gave the world are priceless!!
i agree, with LIVE vocals and moving and jumping and spinning......STILL in full voice, NOBODY could do this, and I STUDY alot of female VOCALIST, SINGERS! Patti is unmatched TRUST me!
I remember seeing this the night it was performed. Now years later when I struggle with the death of my mother I know the meaning of You'll Never Walk Alone. God is Always There. I Love You Janice Hudson.
I'm in this place again like you. My mom passed three years ago a nd we lived up the road from Pattie she was my mom's favorite. I remember watching this with her live with my mom. I came tonight my oldest 30 year old daughter is sick tonight with heat failure. I came to listen with monin spirit for guidance. May we see our mothers again.
The ONLY singer nowadays who I'm still excited to see perform. She ain't no national treasure...She a GLOBAL treasure!!!!!!!! Love and treasure her.....a living legend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I feel down...and need a good cry, I come to RU-vid to listen to Patti LaBelle sing gospel and inspirational songs. It makes me feel better and gets me back on track. She's truly an American treasure.
mystapaul I guess you have a point...Aretha had already earned the respect in the sang'n department..I guess that's why they are already standing, While Hatti was still trying to prove herself
God, the beggining was supernatural. That was enough. She should have thought"my job is done here". That was enough. But no, she started executing those melismas and belts and ended murdering every single surviving soul. That performance was POWERFUL.
Patti vocals back in the day had no equal. She made a stage full of professional singers her background singers at Live Aid... Even to this day she's still belting, not as powerful which is expected, but she still has more range and power than many of the singers these days
This got to be rated as one of the greatest live vocal performances of all time. Patti voice is pure power, precision plus the anointing. In her prime Patti put the fear of God in other performers who sang with her or after her...No one wanted to sing after Patti-and many were legendary singers. How about that!
What I think people miss in general is a Spiritual singer. Patti will get up and sing her song and the spirit hits her all the time. She then takes it to church. Folks always say, why is she shouting all the time. It is nice to see her free in her element. She is my favorite because she has no boundaries. Her talent is raw and never the same ever. This performance is just a wow
Everyone was shook, the band, the choir, Al Greene, Mavis, Lil Richard and the audience, even the mic stand understood the assignment. I watched this when it originally aired, shook then and I'm still amazed and shaken!!!
That entrance alone with her huge voice and in synch movement with the choir was pure slayage She started off in 10th gear and went on up... Powerful chest and head voice She blew through an entire choir and then made 3 legends into her background singers #amazing
It is so true. I enjoyed what you said. Check out her renditions of two of Michael Jackson songs. "I just cant stop loving you" and a duet with Darryl Cooley: Will you be there
+Xavier Smith Well damn, im on the same exact bandwagon. This song has so much meaning for me. Also reminds me of all the positive people i have in my life
+Christian Phoenix 4 1/2 years ago I've become non religious also, or is that the same as atheist. but the universe is directing me if I sit still, push all the human voices out my mind and listen.
gemini Carolyn : Non-religious isn't necessarily the same thing. A typical atheist simply believes that there isn't sufficient evidence to claim that there is a god, let alone one that is interested in our personal affairs. Eleasandrinho Arantes : Same here. I think this song transcends any religiosity and talks about how humans should treat each other--and that's a beautiful and powerful thing.
That VOICE came straight out of the GATE'S of HEAVEN!!! No earthly WORDS can give reason to the altitude of her GLORIOUS VOICE!!!! : My SPIRIT have no other choice but to SHOUT GLORY!!!!
I was born in early 80s so I grew-up listening to the big voices of Whitney, Mariah etc. Never heard/seen this video before until today. This is so amazing. I think this may have inspired "If it's over" by Mariah. I hear similarities.
Patti LaBelle is Mariah Carey god's mother I do hear similarities. She uses auntie patti singing tenique Mariah can't glide in and out of her octaves like auntie patti
Ms Patti La Belle is more than a singer in this planet. She gives all the energy and passion in to The Gospel on stage. She is the best performer I' ve ever known. God bless you, Ms Patti💚💚💚
I say yesss Amen Hallelujah...thank you JESUS...an love you patty...love BRO Glenn an greetings from Berea Kentucky...an the best concert i went to was the Palace in Louisville ky... I sit be hind of your friend. An my Mumhuad Ale...love you Patty...
In one of Patti La Belle interviews, she said she was going to saaaaaannnng whether they paid her or not,,,,,, so GOD intercede on her behalf and made sure she got paaaaaaaid!!!!!! What a GOD we serve!!!!
I'm no longer a Christian I don't even believe in religion however I've listened to this song over and over and the spirit and the soul that she puts into this song it brings tears to my eyes and makes me feel good I love you Patti ❤😗❤
You don’t believe in religion? Singing about Jesus is not religion, they are singing about Jesus who is the truth and life, he will never let you walk alone.
I don't believe in religion any more either (male bullshit designed to subjugate) but spirit and joy is present every day if you seek it, this is what I feel in my bones now
@@hannahretel1073 The problem with people like you is you confuse religion with God and attribute all your negative assumptions about "religion" to God. The word religion is used so casually now that it could mean any human beings' relation to anything they deem sacred worthy of mention etc. I've heard people say the beach with its ocean waves and relaxing sounds is my religion, good food/cooking is my religion etc. "male bullshit designed to subjugate", you make yourself sound like yet another angry lonely feminist. It's getting old/tired/prosaic.....yawn.....
You can hear her before you see her... Ms. Patti came to sing and praise, Y'all. It's 2022 and this song still touches my spirit. Thank you, Ms. Patti. Bravo! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾💖✨🙏🏾☀
almost 5 minutes of belting!!! This woman never backs out, sometimes I think the voice if fake! Bless you Patti! You're a treasure no one could ever have.
Patti LaBelle singing sing you right God never let us Walk Alone may God continue to be with you and your whole beautiful family❤❤🤍🤍💟💟💟💞💞💞🤩🤩🤩🤩💖💖😍😍😍❣🥰😇😇😇👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💓💓💯💯💌💌💌💌💗💗💯💯💯❣❣❣❣💕❣❤❤❤👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💟💞🙏🤩🤩💖💖😍😍🥰🥰💯❣❣❣❤
a woman of passion....a woman with a gift...and a woman who knows EXACTLY how to get under your skin and make you FEEL something. There are TONS of people on this Earth who know how to sing. Hell, I can sing.. But Patti LaBelle is one of those vocalists, who were LITERALLY born to sing...and you can tell those singers, apart from people like me who know how to hold a note. She HAS TO SING...look at her journey thru the music industry, and you'll see NUMEROUS times when she should have been out of the business for one reason or another. (poor marketing, lack of good album production, not priorotized by record labels, disco, hip hop, making a comeback in her freaking 40s, etc). But she just refused to STOP..and when you have a voice like this, that can make people applaud at the mere mention of your name, why the Hell should you stop singing. This woman has earned the title of "diva".
I was 15 yrs old and visiting my grandmother in Troy, NY and my father called to say that the 50th Anniversary of Mowtown was on and he was recording it on our VHS machine. I watched it live while at my grandmother's house and when Patti Labelle belted out this beautiful song, I said to my Grandmother that when I get married, I will walk down the aisle to that song. We'll, 4 yrs later I met my husband and on 10/10/92, we walked down to the VHS recorded version because to my knowledge, she didn't have a recorded version. I still watch this video here and there and it brings me back to the night I watched her perform that song live. I still get emotional watching it. But so happy that in some way, Patti was with us as we made our vows. Love her and her beautiful gift!
