how is it so far? is it mostly still the same as the og or is there enough changes to make it sort of feel like a new experience besides the extra 30 hours of content after December?
@@catsonmars1408 yeah its kinda the same for base game but huge changss were added to make it a fresh experience and to help develop the plot for the extra 30 hours, its worth the 60 dollars
@@catsonmars1408 small changes throguhout the game, mostly quality of life, huge changes post final boss, adds new palace, new semester and such. I like the new character honestly, shes pretty good. Im not done yet with the extra content, but i like it. The only thing id say though is that in so many places i had ideas of how they could have mad things better, or change things slightly, but it wasnt done, so sometimes it feels like a cash grab tbh. Also, they pushed Kasumi REAL hard in marketing, but legit, it took me 70 hours to get to the new semester (and i played the original twice already), and she's barely part of the story before then, so its kinda meh
Well I mean both are fighting against ideas of the general public, it's just that fighting a god manfiested into reality from the general public unconcious wishes with humanoid stylish ghosts and then proceeding to kill him by summoning satan before he fell from heaven with the power fo friendship and bullet made from the seven deadly sins, is way more badass than writing a few words on a discussion page, which everyone knows never actualy changes someone's mind (or heart for that manner)
"So kids what did you do today?" "Summoned Satan with the power of friendship and then fused the 7 Deadly Sins into a bullet and shot God in the face with it. All to save Christmas." "Well as long as you're being safe!"
Well Jaldabaoth is another name for the Demiurge, a being known for shaping the universe. In SMT construct, we know the Demiurge most from Strange Journey in which the Demiurge is the largest shard left of YHVH when he was defeated in the best ending of SMT II. In SMT Strange Journey, the Three Wise men are on a mission from the Demiurge in order to subvert free will, build a kingdom of God, and restore the Demiurge to his former glory. So quite literally Jaldabaoth IS God, and you kill him. Well, again...but as in SMT fashion, his defeat will not be permanent. So long as men cannot live without feeling like they need to submit to a higher power, YHVH will rise again and again. Hopefully with the feeling of death being blocked (Persona 3), the truth being revealed (Persona 4), and releasing the shackles of society's burdens (Persona 5), the world will one day not need to rely on YHVH and he can be killed for real.
Except in SMT lore, a world without YHVH's influence is just as bad as one where he wins. The only path is the path of Neutrality, where Humanity shows they are better than Gods and Demons and can rule themselves.
Didn't they do like that entire... section of the game (to avoid giving any spoilers) after school on one day? And you're telling me I can't watch more than 1 part of that film I bough the other day in that time?
"I release upon you the deadly sin of Persona 5. You have no means of escape, humans. The addiction of mankind shall bring forth ultimate Makoto fanboys..."
Interesting bit of trivia: according to the Apocryphon of John in the Gnostic faith, the Demiurge (the assumed "false God" that makes up the final boss in P5) has three known names: Yaldabaoth, Salkas (translated to "fool"), and Samael. This leads me to believe two things. One: If you analyze Shido during his battle, his name will be identified as "Masayoshi Samael Shido". I believe the developers cleverly gave Shido the middle name of Samael to associate him as someone who falsely believed himself to be a God over the masses he controlled. Two: the Confidant Link you share with Igor is of the Fool Arcana. While this makes sense since the Fool Arcana always represents the Protagonist's role across his story, in previous games the Fool Arcana represented the journey itself rather than any particular person. The Fool Arcana in P5 may reflect Igor's true nature as an impostor, the false God referred to as the "fool".
i didn't know that one (quite a fitting name for shido's shadow in the grand scheme of things), put here an even interesting thing about this soundtracks name, whoever wrote the title used the wrong name the real name is yaldabaoth which means false idol or false god which makes sense in it's religious meaning.
The final boss themes portray the themes and emotions felt through out each persona game very well. Persona 3’s last boss theme has a very depressing feel to it and it’s like Nyx is telling you that you will absolutely die a painful death Persona 4’s last boss theme starts of making the player’s feel like the fight will be hard, but with determination and your friends by your side, you will be able to overcome it. Persona 5’s final boss theme has a very angry tone to it almost like the game is telling Joker that he was treated very poorly by society because of Shido and now is finally time to let that anger out and finally end the corrupt society and start a new.
Persona 2 has a final stand feel to it. You're fighting against all of humanities darkest desires but even though you win there's a price to be paid. And Tatsuya just happens to suffer the most for it.
@Kind Kutter I got to say out of all the true endings with each of the persona games, the 5th one was my favorite. I really liked the fake Igor twist and how the actually made the phantom thieves change public heart, even when no one wants them to and tries to discourage them. This ending definitely works with what our modern day society. I hope Persona 6 will up to the beauty this game has to offer.
Yaldabaoth: YOU DARE ROB THE PEOPLES WISHES!? Joker: You trained me to be a thief... remember? *Shoots sinful shell* Edit: Two years later and i only NOW See the typos.
"I RELEASE UPON YOU THE DEADLY SIN OF PERSONA 5: THE ROYAL SPOILERS!!!! YOU HAVE NO MEANS OF ESCAPE, HUMANS!!!! THE CURIOSITY OF MAN SHALL BRING FORTH RUIN TO THE ENDING!!!!"
The order in which Yaldabaoth invokes the deadly sins is not random. Every palace and its owner stands for one sin: Lust -> Kamoshida Vanity -> Madarame Gluttony -> Kaneshiro Wrath -> Futaba Greed -> Okumura Envy -> Sae Pride -> Shido Also when you finish the mission, you get an achievement that states the palace and its sin.
And I suppose the reason Sloth wasn't mentioned is that Sloth is represented by all of humanity wanting to surrender control and not think for themselves. That's why Yaldabaoth exists
@@vessel9018 That was before they faced Cognitive Wakaba. Normally, they'd have to face the Palace owner's Shadow Self, but instead of Shadow Futaba, they had to face a fake monstrous Wakaba.
Reminder that when you save you are writing in your probation journal, meaning joker probably wrote something like: "20xx/12/24 Today I killed the false god yaldaboath with my friends. Satan shot him in the head." In a god damn PROBATION journal, which would probably make him sound like a madman.
@@maskedhylian6674 Joker: We live in a society. Lavenza: Holy shit so that's the Trickster's true power. Igor: Love him or hate him, but that Trickster is spitting true facts.
@@shadowagent7361 inb4 Secret God boss fight where God is immune to literally everything and has absolutely insane stats and every attack one-shots the entire party.
Persona 3 Final Boss: Nyx and Erebus. Nyx ushers in The Fall should the mass of humanity's desire to die, Erebus, reaches her. Persona 4 Final Boss: Izanami-no-Okami. A Goddess who wishes for humanity's desires to be fulfilled and live happily as a result. Humanity wished to be forever blind to the truth, like a dense blanket of fog. Persona 5 Final Boss: Yaldabaoth, the God of Control. Once again, humanity's desire for something caused a catastrophe. This time it was to be blindly controlled by an unseen force. Moral of the story.... Stop screwing yourselves over, humanity!
Micheal Forguson They haven't learned since at least the late 90s lol Persona 1 Final Boss: Pandora, the manifestation of Maki Sonomura's nihilism which with the core of the reality warping DEVA system seeks to erase all of existence, believing that everything was worthless. Was born from Maki's experiences of isolation from society in the hospital ward due to chronic illness. Persona 2 Final Boss (both parts): Nyarlathotep, the manifestation of human evil who made a bet with his opposite, Philemon, over which side best represents humanity. Curses an entire city such that rumors become real, but mostly relies on the careless nature of humans creating social stigma, believing things at surface level, and fearmongering to eventually arrange a set of circumstances that results in the Earth's destruction, and win the bet. Got so bad the first set protagonists had to seal off this bad timeline away at the cost of their memories, but he almost suceeeds in undoing the new timeline.
Persona 6: A god, under the earth, thinks that humans took the "fruit of knowledge" too much, and are evolving beyond what they were meant to be. Perhaps named Yggdrasil, or two gods of Adam and Eve. I mean, I know none of them are gods in mythos, and Yggdrasil isn't quite even sentient, but..... they can play around with a nature theme.
Yaldaboath: *Brings out book* Futabas: Watch out its preparing a counter attack. Me: OK *attacks main body* Futaba: I TOLD YOU NOT TO ATTACK! Me: I THOUGHT YOU MEANT THE BOOK!
One amazing detail about this boss specifically is...why is it mechanical? Why does it act like a machine? Simple, human desire made it, a machination of the world's desire. Why would it not be mechanical if it's creators are so dependent on technology. Furthermore, that's why this song sounds so mechanical, with the electric guitar tearing through the song defiantly representing us. Every detail of this boss is 11/10, from mythology to design, battle, and defeat.
I think that it's more of a reference to how he wish for perfect order. He want society to be a perfectly oiled machine under his control. It could also represent how stubborn he is. But yeah as you said, it can also represent how he's a god created by the masses. He might have a halo and be in gold and platinum, but he's still just a robot.
"It takes a demon lord to show a corrupt god the path to rehabilitation...or in this case, ruin." Summon Satanael so he can bust a cap in the chalice's face. I think it's safe to say the glasses toss at the end of P4G has been topped XD
The moment Joker pointed the gun at Yaldabaoth DMC style I knew Izanagi-no-Okami had nothing on him. Only thing that moment was lacking was a 'Jackpot'.
Wesley Darnell I liked the glasses thing better. Persona 5 felt like it was trying to hard honestly. The protagonist saying begone was kinda mood killing as well.
Summoning the fallen angel to shoot a bullet made of the seven deadly sins to kill the false god, the demiurge Yaldabaoth. If that's not the coolest thing you ever heard then i'm open to other opinions.
Not gonna lie, after basically One-Shot Killing my way through most of the fight, getting an actual killshot in the cutscene battle was pretty fuckin' great. Like, my friend was watching me play through it and I made a joke along the lines of "Oh no, I can't use Gun, we're all doomed," followed by "Oh, nevermind, I guess I can use Better Gun."
It's interesting to see what Yaldabaoth's original Mythological purpose was, and how it ties into his usage here. He was a figure from Gnostic mythology, ( a Medieval sect of Christianity which was seen as heretical by the others), who was allegedly the more wrathful "God" from the Old testament. In effect, they believed he created Man and the earth, but not the universe; the True God made him, but could not make mortal life because she was herself too pure for mortal, flawed creation, only a flawed creature could create imperfection, i.e mankind. They believed that him attempting to keep Adam and Eve away from the fruit of knowledge was an act of cruelty, as he was trying to suppress Mankind's progress so they would remain loyal to him. Satan, (Satenael at the time) ended up giving Adam and Eve the fruit, which lessened his control over them, which is why he cast them out. I believe they thought this lead to Yaldabaoth gradually losing control of the Human race over time; ultimately leading to the True God taking over by the time the new testament came along. Their interpretation of Satan's rebellion was as a necessary step in mankind's oneness with God because it convinced them to rebel against a false creator. Apply this to the Game; with Satanael being the embodiment of societal change, and Yaldabaoth being the embodiment of modern society's control/stagnation, it really shows how much research and effort they put into this ending. In line with the game's general philosophy about free thinking, this Boss is literally a retelling of a religion built around rebellion's origin story.
@@christopherbravo1813 Well it was one sect made without any real divine inspiration;just conjecture. Regardless of its beliveability, it worked nicely with the themes expressed by the game's story.
My favorite part of this battle was when he released Distorted Lust and Haru couldn't summon Milady because she was too focused on lewd fantasies. Haru: Pillage me, Satanael~
Y'know, the instant Yaldabaoth said he represents the human unconcious, I was like: "Yeah, uh, I know a certain duo going by the names of Philemon and Nyarlathotep, and they'd like to tell you something about that."
@@neptuneplaneptune3367 I think that was just Nyarlathotep, and even then, he's still the source of all Shadows. I think that he's manipulating things in the background by creating Erebus and corrupting Izanami. Yaldabaoth, interestingly enough, is actually working against Nyarlathotep. Yaldabaoth's goals align with neither entity.
The thing that got me with this game, was what they did with Igor. When I saw the trailer, I was like "the fuck is up with his voice? That's weird as shit" the whole game his voice bothered the shit outta me lol But then things happened, and everything made sense lol

Honestly, I don't get what peoples' issues with this is. It's plenty memorable and I still couldn't get enough of it after almost 60 minutes of fighting that asshole. And I honestly cannot wait to get to that boss fight again in NG+.
I liked this one because Vocal tracks can wear out their welcome sometimes. And as much as I /loved/ Rivers in the Desert, it would have been overused by the time you hit this fight.
Rivers in the desert was good when it played the first time. When it replayed during the Holy Grail fight I thought it lost its effect. I was worried it would be the one and only final boss theme. Counting the optional boss and both times you fight the holy grail it plays 4 times, making it lose its effect in my opinion.
Amen. P5 is one of the few games I've played of the last five years that I feel like still has meat on its bones. All too often, triple A games have been a much briefer affair than the genre's mid '00s heyday. And this is coming from an SMT series virgin.
I think that because of Hashino leaving, he probably wanted a to up the stakes and scale of the story for his last game, think about it, even the Velvet Room is involved.
Neoshenlong Archivo 2008 - 2011 I had no idea that he's leaving, I said to my friend that this game is made so well if they ever try to continue and make P6 it'll have insane expectations from fans
Yes, he is moving on into other projects, particularly a fantasy RPG that he's working on in his new studio (still inside Atlus), he's also working with Shoji Meguro (legendary SMT music composer) and Shigenori Soejima (Persona 3, 4 and 5 character and art designer). Its a great team so I think we can expect a fantasy game filled with some of the aspects that made us love the Persona 3 to 5 trilogy. As for the future of the Persona series, the P Studio is already working on the next games with Meguro and Soejima, the only vacant is who will be the new director. And yes, it will have insane expectations, but I'm pretty sure that, no matter who the new director is, the team that has worked in so many games, and particularly Meguro and Soejima, will know this and will know how to achieve something great. After all, P5 had insane hype aswell and I thnk they did pretty darn well.
"Satan" in Hebrew(?) means "Accuser" or "Adversary". A "satan" can either be a general unspecific adversary of some kind OR a part of the Heavenly Host called Ha-Satan ["Ha" means "the"] that was allowed to act as an obstacle for people and/or as a prosecutor towards humanity on trial before The Judge (God).
If you're anything like me-- you'll look up the soundtrack and listen to it before you even get to that part of the game But let me just say this... if you do: DONT LOOK AT THE COMMENTS FOR THE LOVE OF GOD (I know this is a contradictory statement but do you expect people to actually not read the comments)
fun detail you never noticed: Joker's gloves are red. Akechi's are white. this alludes to the fact Joker was caught "red handed" while Akechi got away scott free.
Hey all Scott here, also I think the gloves mirror the skills they use Joker uses curse and akechi uses bless, Ann's are pink, fire, ryuji is yellow, lightning, and so on
Yaldabaoth: *brings a gun out* "THIS IS YOUR PUNISHMENT!" Satanael: *comes down from the heavens with an even bigger gun, with Joker ordering him to point it at Yaldabaoth* Yaldabaoth: *"Wait that's illegal."*
I didn't really notice it until the 5th time I've listen to the song, but 0:50 is a leitmotif of Momentos. Listen to the momentos stage music, then come back here and play from 0:50 onward. Can't believe I didn't notice how obvious it was.
Makoto: So, Joker, honey? Do you have a plan? Joker: I'm gonna shoot a god in the face. Ann: Uh, not to kill the mood, but you might be missing some details there, Joker. Joker: No, I said in the face.
My Yoshitsune (NG+) is only 82 at the moment. Regrinding my Tower confidant to get a better EXP burst as we speak, then I'll put Hassou Tobi on my Satanael (For the badass points) and hold on to my good 'ol Omnipotent Orb. Who's the god here now, Yaldabaoth?
You know I just realized this is one of the three bosses in the game where the Phantom Thieves don't have to hold themselves back to not kill their target.
@@youraveragewaffle The boss of Futaba's Palace and the 'boss' of Okumura's palace because the bosses aren't actually Shadows. The latter I guess you can argue that they can't due a risk of shadow Okumura being caught in the cross fire while battling the robots but otherwise yeah.
Anyone else confused that when you get hit with the Gluttony sin your skill cost gets doubled, but when you get hit by the Greed sin your party gets the "hunger" debuff?
That seemed to be dictated by which Palace Bosses were associated with which deadly sin. Okumura was the boss of the Palace of Greed, and his boss fight integrated the hunger status ailment thanks to his final robot's "Big Bang Burger Challenge" attack. So, Yaldabaoth's Greed based attack inflicted hunger. Kaneshiro didn't have a status ailment associated with him-unless you count fear in the first form-so the devs probably needed to come up with some ability that would both challenge the player and fit the deadly sin theme.
hey i'm 3 WHOLE YEARS late but, both greed, lust and gluttony are wanting in excess, the difference is greed is more about collecting things (ex: trading cards, money, etc...), gluttony is about overconsumption of things you need (ex: water, food, etc...) and lust is overconsumption of things you don't need (ex: sex, cigarettes, etc...), but the game does manipulate greed and gluttony into being interchangeable.
"The world is still reeling today after an unknown object crashed through a large part of the San Francisco coastline, killing thousands. This is just months after California has spent time recovering from a large storm. Are the Phantom Thieves to blame? More importantly, can we possibly weather large disasters without finding a scapegoat?"
It's so epic just like the game. Honestly, Persona 5 is my favorite PS3 and PS4 game. I really liked Persona 3 and 4, but Persona 5 is another level. It's so big, and amazing, and beautiful, and the musics... oh man is a AAA+++++++++ game.
Holy fuck this is so underrated. I really love how throughout the song it comes off as utter doom. Like there’s nothing left. There’s a rapid descent that plays and it sounds so good. But then there’s moments when “Our Beginning” plays and that represents the last bit of hope the Phantom Thieves sate. But idk I’m probably just looking to into this :/
I Like to relate each of the Persona games to a SMT alignment Persona 3: Neutral, the Personas in this game are Greek gods, which at least i consider Neutral entities as they're not so different from humans Persona 4: Law, the Personas in this game are Japanese gods and spirits, which can be considered Benevolent entities Persona 5: Chaos, the Personas in this game are Fictional Thieves and Trickster Gods, which can be considered infamous mythological figures. And, c'mon you fight Demiurge in the ending and even fight the Archangels before it
It's not so clear cut though as Yaldabaoth was presumably named due to being the "Son of Chaos" (though apparently it's a result of mistranslation of aramaic). That said since he does rule the material plane, the lowerworld of sin, he's basically a sinful demon pretending to be God.
Nothing goes harder than the opening. That deep bassey synth sound creeps under your skin and sounds so nice paired with the dirty sounding guitar. The main riff is great, but the intro is magical, this tune rivals the p3 boss music
this game went to "change the heart of that one pervert teacher, his palace is a castle cause he feels like a king there. his palace exist because he is a pervert" to....
