Grammy Award Winner and Rock Legend Peter Frampton shows us the Guitars, Amps and Effects he uses to create his legendary sound onstage. Look for Peter's new album "Thank You Mr Churchill", due for release on April 27, 2010.
When I was 10 years old in 1976, Peter Frampton's live album changed my life. Now I teach guitar at a university and perform for a living. '76 was a great year: 'Frampton Comes Alive', Boston's first album, 'Hotel California', etc. it was a great time to listen to FM radio and rock music on LP for a kid!
Framptons been playing for like 50 years. Go see him live if you get the chance. You will be amazed by his enthusiasm and love of guitar playing. Quite the performer. Never gets the due that he deserves.
I worked at a Frampton show in the mid-90's, got to meet him and his band, and sat on the front of the stage right in front of him for their soundcheck. Guy is incredible, and incredibly nice.
I saw Frampton in '75. In early '76 recordings from this tour went onto his Frampton Comes Alive album. I went to the concert with the intention of seeing Alvin Lee and Ten Years After. I had never heard of Peter Frampton. Frampton opened for 10 years after. He ABSOLUTELY STOLE THE SHOW. Yes I realize he was not the fastest guitarist in the world (Alvin Lee was suppose to be), but there was an aura and magnetism Frampton had that was unlike anything I have seen since. I almost felt like I was at a Black Gospel church and I had just been "saved." I can't describe it completely accurately, but it was THE most uplifting concert I have ever been to. I would say it might be the BEST concert I ever saw.
I just love watching you play. Years ago my wife treated me to a concert at aneatby venue - Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, Michigan - and you were doing a contemporary version of your mid-1970s tour. My wife isn't a fan of rock; she prefers that syrupy "easy listening" stuff. But at one point, mid-concert, she looked at me and said, "He REALLY likes what he's doing, doesn't he?" It made me laugh but it also made me think if the musicians I've seen who are just going through the motions, making the money and going home. You are one of the few who play for love and joy and I need you to know how important that is to me.👍❤
I've been a musician for 45 years (drummer) and Ill never forget when our lead guitar player ordered a Mesa Boogie amp and I stood by the delivery truck and saw how small it was and said "Goddam Jimmy, that ain't gonna cut it, it's too fucking small." When he plugged it in and hit that first note, I learned to keep my big mouth shut. Drummers need to shut up anyway. Man, what a sound and what power. We ran that little sucker into the board and it filled up a 500 seat club. .
My 1st concert was Peter at MSG 10/8/76 at the height of Frampton mania. Totally killer show and my gateway to concert going. Still love him for Showing Me The Way!
I recently had the good fortune to hear Frampton and Rick Derringer live. They can still bring the house down. 50 years of "real" rock and roll and still rocking!
Frampton is a musical God. Ever since Humble Pie, he has done an unreal job at keeping his greatness alive. He is absolutely one the the greatest of all time.
Damn dude! Obviously you haven't listened to 'David Live' ( Bowie's 1974 Diamond Dogs tour captured live at Tower Theatre in Philadelphia) or '801 Live' ( Brian Eno and Phil Manzanera's 1976 Interim group formed after Roxy Music(original incarnation)). These 2 albums are considered the best live album's ever recorded for overall sound quality/experience because of the talent and manner in which they were recorded. 'Come's Alive' doesn't really compare unless you're a big fan of the talk-box and excessive audience clapping.
Even though I'm 29 years younger than Peter Frampton,Hank B Marvin was my first influence too!!! Oh & I also have a Gibson Les Paul in "Black" too that is everything too me!! Ok mine is from 1980 but it's got the perfect mojo for me!!! But Peter Frampton is as good as it gets!! I wish him well with his health battles as I am also suffering with something very similar, but fortunately for me it's not effecting my hands (everywhere else is a different story!!) but I hope Peter Frampton read's this & like myself just keep the faith in human nature because things will work out for the better eventually!!!
❤❤❤Guitare 🎸 🎶 💯 💯 une guitare 🎸 que je ne pourrais jamais m'offrir helas.. Lines on my face.. 👍🏼👌💕💜✔️France 🇫🇷. Mais merci pour ce miracle à cette guitare 🎸 🎶 jpascal 🙋♂️ 🙏📿🎤🎼🎵🎶🎸🎷🎧
It's remarkable how Peter Frampton and Robin Trower look like they could be brothers now-a-days, Peter looks like the younger brother. And both of them still shred
I thought his Guitar Center Sessions show was one of the best of the series. He hasn't lost a step. In fact, I'll go as far to say that he's gained a couple.
Frampton was best friends with David Bowie and Boweie's Mom taught Peter in school. I prefer Peter's acoustic guitar over his rock styles of playing. He does have one of tbe most craziest guitar pedal set-ups I've seen. Mine is simple with 7 pedals on two tier board.
Peter's legendary '54 GIbson was just returned to him, 31 years after the famousVenezuelan plane crash that was thought to have destroyed it. Since I can't include a URL here, you can search the NY Times "Art Beat" section, Jan 3, 2012! A GREAT story!!
@236482 so did i , at colt park, hartford ,conn GaryWright (dreamweaver) opened up the show, i think it was summer 1976 and the concert was great I remember Peter wearing this funny black/white striped funky super-bell bottom pants..
absolutely , what are the chances of that he has to be elated ! and hes always been underated and overlooked , he seems like hed be an awesome person to sit down with and talk gutar !
"Frampton Comes Alive" came out when I was discovering girls, play the 8 track, yeah I said 8 track, and they would drop the panties. cheerleaders to sunday school dolls.....oh the memories
langejans guitars great guitars hand crafted by Del LangejansI know Del who makes them I lived In Holland Michigan were they are made. I have a 20 yr old Langejans classical great sounding guitar with great tone
Love PF...great licks..great tunes...AND he survived being one of the most popular acts in the world!...Is that easy? Picture yourself (and me) at that age and basically being so huge you have everything (money..fame...ego worship...drugs...women)....lolz...everything....I don't think I would have fared well...Bottom line?... GREAT guitar player great vocalist.
What a dopey video production!. How can you record a video of Peter Frampton and not show him using his talkbox during Show Me The Way? Then, you went to the shot when he began singing. That is so 70's irrelevant video production where you would hear these great guitar solos while staring at a shot of the lead singer waiting for the soloist to end their riff.
I had "frampton comes alive" in 76' what a great guitarist with little recognition compared to the usuals, Clapton, Page etc, I've never liked the voice box thing though.
