Interesting to watch as obviously I've never tasted hogplum leaves or indeed the fruit. Hopefully your plant will do better this Winter 🤞

Looks an amazing dish Alyssa. Such a great marinade. Even though it’s best to let the leaves drop on the hog plum naturally, I understand why you removed them in accepting you’ll get dieback anyway. The leaves do protect the stems from cold even temporarily before dropping next month. Maybe next time just remove the leaves and not the side branches. Try wrapping the whole stem and remaining small branches in bubble wrap. As long it’s kept dry, it shouldn’t rot. Maybe even try wrapping the stem in a fine cotton material like an old tea towel before the bubble wrap. If you do lose the tree, you might struggle to find another advanced tree so best to do as much as possible to keep it alive. Bring in all of your potted plants that are outside into the enclosure and pack them around the most sensitive trees. The more foliage next to them the better the cold protection. Leave the remaining mango on the tree until the weather turns cold with cloudy and wet weather.

@@alyssastropicalfruittrees5754 That’s fine Alyssa. Always good to inform and give our tropical plants the best chance to survive and hopefully thrive. Just remember to apply the seaweed extract very soon as the days and nights are getting cooler/colder by the day. Apply all over the foliage as in the cool soil the roots are unable to absorb the solution to the foliage. Apply on a sunny day between 10.30 and 3 so the foliage is dry by dusk. Focus on your most cold sensitive trees first.

@@alyssastropicalfruittrees5754 You can place the pots close to the trunks of the sensitive trees. Won’t matter if the foliage touches but I understand it’s hard to judge distances when I’m watching re how close the trees are in real life. Anyway the whole planting looks super healthy.

I have some Galangal growing that I haven't even used in any cooking dishes yet at least. I might have mentioned this a while back but I bought a Galangal plant (Siamese ginger) off a Vietnamese woman (Luu Nguyen) who was studying to become a linguist at the Newcastle University Here in New South Wales, she was doing some of her cooking when I came over to her place to buy the plant. I bought it off her for $10 through Facebook market place,Luu has moved back to Vietnam since then !

@@alyssastropicalfruittrees5754 A well known mail order nursery on the Mornington peninsula stock red Thai galangal at times. Buy in spring if available. Good in large pots as dies back in winter in ground when small. You can move pots around according to the season. Amongst the tropicals in winter. Semi shade in summer.
