PINK - A Normal Game About Watering Plants & Living In A Cute Pink Apartment may have a horror twist 

Yo listen up, here's the story About a little gal that lives in a pink world And all day and all night and everything she sees is just pink Like her, inside and outside Pink her house with a pink little window

Hello, I'm the game developer! Pink is my first game, and I made it to 1) teach myself how to code and 2) scare my friends. I was originally going to share it with just my friend group, and I only made it available publicly on a whim. I've been blown away by the positive reception. No, Pink was not inspired by the song Blue. I came up with the idea after I cleaned a bunch of pink gunk out of a wet saw filter, which got me thinking about how I could make the color pink scary.

I learned about this a very long time ago, but this game reminds me... There's a color called "Baker's Pink". It was used to paint the walls of insane asylums, but they eventually figured out that particular shade of pink was actually making the patients go a lot more mental than they already were! That color is no longer used for facilities of that nature. Just goes to show that colors really do have an affect on mood and mental well being.

Manly is the reason why I have trust issues with the words 'normal' and 'cute'

So glad this game was about a terrifying plant based apocalypse and not a metaphor for depression like I thought it would be. I saw it coming from day two but a nice game regardless.

I'm going the literal route on this one: something contaminated the water and plants, completely dooming the world. Considering they started growing something flesh-like, maybe a bioweapon? Either way everyone's dead or future plants. This game built a solid atmosphere without using a lot and I respect that.

I feel like the pink is the apocalyptic air and the plant’s pollen in the air.

I think it's to be taken in a literal way. My theory is that the rain was contaminated by something that made all living things go crazy and mutate over time, so it created an apocalypse situation. Since the girl threw her phone out the window when it rained, my guess is that some droplets fell on her. Since it was only a little, her transformation was slow, but it was still enough to condemn her.

This kinda makes me wonder if this is one of the things some people go through from self quarantine. You know, being alone with no human content and start to lose some of your sanity and site of reality. But this is just my thoughts on how i see this game so if someone does not like this comment then i apologize.

Wow. The title describes my life. My room is pink and all I do is take care of my lil’ plant dudes. Everyone loves lil’ plant dudes, ya’ know?

I honestly think the girl is gonna turn into a plant. She is LITTERALLY OBSESSED with plants She grows leaves. She said she is gonna bloom too She thinks everything is unimportant when it is not about plants

I interpreted the game to be about a girl who is struggling with her eating disorder. She tries to drink away her hunger with water, all the while, growing her eating disorder and plants. conditions get to a point in which it is out of control and taking over her life. Often times with an eating disorder, it is a way of trying to be in control. I feel like she also has OCD and needs to ensure that her room is all neat and tidy. Like how she is obsessed with cleanliness, she becomes obsessed with watering herself with her eating disorder and her addicitions.

I like how you don't exactly do voices for the characters, but you do read their lines with the sort of tonal inflection they'd be using. I also like how you manage to read things the right way, without adding or removing or changing words, and without cutting sentences up in weird ways. That can be hard to do out loud on your first reading of something.

So if "being blue" is a synonym for being sad or even suffering depression....is "seeing pink" then a synonym for being in denial? Since ya supposed to see the world through rose colored glasses when in love, meaning ya not see the redflags either.

I think it's the water from outside. She mentions that there was something important about the rain, so my guess is the rain from when the power went out was some sort of poisonous or parasitical liquid that creates unearthly plant life, and it's taken over the water system in her apartment/city. That's why there are plants growing through drains, and she has used the water to water her houseplants and to drink, so the water is creating the pink flowers and has taken over her own body.

My first guess was that this woman was having some OCD breakdown after her friends died. But nah, plant apocalypse is way cooler. xD

I was like "yea mhm ya" until she said she stopped eating weeks ago and waters all she needs, then I went "oh sh*t she a plant now-"

6:44 as a plant lover i can confirm this is a monstera deliciosa it is poisionus when consumed but when the flowers ripen enough it produces a edible fruit

Manly, I seriously gotta thank you for holding me over with the horror games. You and only a handful of others are still sticking to their guns. You never fail to supply me with my nightly itch to watch horror gameplay.

This reminded me of To Do List. Both games, after a horrific worldwide event, have the protagonists alone and doing tasks to pass the time. That is, until whatever caused and/or keeps causing casualties affects them or shows how much it has affected them.

As someone with all-pink bedroom decor and furniture who really likes plants (and has been stuck inside a lot due to current world events) this FUCKED me up.

The larger plant next to her table looks like a monstera, which under extreme care and proper conditions can indeed flower!! Usually a white spiky flower :) very nice touch devs! I have a monstera and it’s my fave 💚🌱

Ok but am i the only one that just loves the aesthetic of this game? I mean think about it: You live in a small house, the house is entirely colored with your favourite colour (mine is pastel pink), there is no one near your house, it's just you and your blooming plants. And there is no plant apocalipse.

idk man I feel like this game is about depression, and the experience of only having one thing keeping you from unaliving

Just felt like saying my interpretation of the game I feel like this game takes place in some sort of apocalyptic world. Or where the world has ended. That is why the doors are boarded up. As well as why there is no food in her house and the power has been out for weeks. The main character always says 'used to' and refers to things as they'd happened a long time ago. And I believe she is slowly losing her mind, due to having no food and being locked away from society for such a long time. This is why she slowly loses memory of things. And the reason she is so obsessed with plants is because she misses the friends she once had and just the outside world before the incident happened. I also believe when she sleeps she is sleeping for multiple days. Because lack of food and also lack of sunlight can cause extreme exhaustion and can cause people to sleep much longer than normally needed. This would also explain why the plants grew so fast after sleeping. And another reason why her memory is so deranged. Anyways if you read this uh thanks ig 👍💗

Something from the water effected her and the plants, she began turning into a plant and thats why she stopped needing food.

Ok so I don't know if there's a proper place to suggest games, but here's my suggestion, "No Delivery" it's made by the same guy who made "Nobody's Home" and I think you'd enjoy it

Okay, so I kind of relate to the game. I have a lot of plants and tend to be a shut in because of my depression. There will be times where it is just me and my plants, taking care of them makes me feel a little better and less "useless" I guess.

This might be partially inspired by that Blue song. There is actually some theory about the song being about depression. That's why "everything is blue for him". I kinda can see how it would translate to a pink world where she is losing her mind.

Absolutely adore this game! There's something really special about horror concepts that are melted in with femininity. I'm unsure if this game was telling a story, but rather trying to portray a really familiar feeling for many through abstraction. Just a great game!
