Hitting good mid-distance wedge shots is a vital shot to learn for golfers of all abilities, yet I see so many shots squandered by golfers who have NO IDEA how to pitch the golf ball with any level of consistency or predictability.
It’s not a “small, big swing”, nor is it a “big, small swing”. This shot is truly a special shot which require a unique set-up and execution. Get it right, and your scores will tumble, get it wrong, and your perpetual frustration (and high scores) will continue.
You can learn how to execute the 30-80 yard pitch shot with relative ease once you know how to make the necessary set-up and swing adjustments which I will share with you in this video including:
* What club to use
* How far to stand from the ball
* Where to position the ball
* What length swing to take
* Wrists or no wrists?
* Connection and symmetry
* How to deliver consistent loft and speed to control your distances perfectly
This is your "Complete Guide To Pitching" and will equip you with all the information you need to practice and perfect this shot of paramount importance.

The detail in your thinking is amazing. I have been trying to produce 3 different shots with 3 different clubs for 40, 50, 60,70,80,90, and 100 yds. Some work well but others don’t. The ones that don’t will be taken out of the tool box. Again, the detail is the key with proper technique. Great video

I binged some of your videos last night around 4 am. Don’t know if it helped or not, but shot 77, won my match, was up 5 on the turn, no 3 putts. Really like your preset the trail wrist on the backswing video. I really like how you talk about keeping your weight on the front or lead leg, if I try to switch my weight to the back leg and then the front leg, I hit it fat and my contact is so no consistent.

That’s amazing! Congratulations on your win and your score - 77 is pretty impressive!!! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

Just what I needed Rob! Yesterday on the course I played really well, except for pitching & chipping. So I decided to focus on the short game because it cost me a few pars yesterday. I'll watch this video several times I'm sure.

Hi Rob, I stumbled upon a similar pitch shot method, where I grooved a consistent "backswing" & "target-swing" with the same heights and speed. Per your videos, I also try to squeeze my elbows together during the swing to keep a consistent radius distance to the ball and turf. It feels like my hands go from hip high to hip high, similar to your 90 to 90 drill. In reality my hands are more like rib cage height. I utilize the same swing and tempo, with a lower handle grip and change wedges for the desired distance control. These distances may be different for others, yet my results are: 60*= 25-30 yards (only when I must hit a straight up and down flop shot with no roll) SW= 40-45, GW= 50-55, PW= 60-70 and with a mid gripped PW= 80-90 yards. I also began utilizing my PW for most of my chip shots, which has stopped the ball from checking up sooner than desired and providing a more consistent roll out to the cup. Since these recent short game changes, over the past month I have consistently dropped 5 shots off of my previous scores. I haven't broken 80 in a long, long time. Since these changes, it has happened 3 out of my last 5 rounds. Thank you for the great tips, it definitely has improved my game! :)

Hi Rob, I have found this lesson (also the previous 30-80 video), a key for me. Bob Rotella has argued that the pitch shot is the most important shot in golf. The "next" topic that I would love to see you incorporate in your teaching is the whole topic of "flighting" wedge shots (images of Tommy Fleetwood come to mind). Keep up the good work! Steve

Great video, Rob. As others have said, this video came just in time as I'm having all kinds of problems with my 30-80 yd shots and don't have any reliable plan. I've been using a PW and hitting it too long/short/fat/thin. Can't wait to get out and practice with my new swing thoughts.

Great video as always. If you are looking for material videos on error fixes would be good. For example fix for heel strikes, fix for slice, etc.

Thank you for the excellent teaching. Can you discuss keeping the wrists very fluid and loose. I find that as soon as I tighten my right wrist on the downswing, I will catch a flyer skull shot. Your thoughts?

Some good pointers in here about low point as I tend to want to bottom out in front of the ball like a full swing. Now, how about a video on how to hit those pesky 10 yard high lob shots when I leave myself shortsided by the green 6 times per round. 😠

Do you keep a weak grip throughout all these shots, or just the shortest one?
@robertslottenberg2200

Is the grip (weak) the same for all three swings?

Would you keep the neutral grip for a yardage of 100 to 120 and use a pitching wedge? Is it an option?
@robcheneygolf1
@robcheneygolf1 День назад
It’s definitely an option 👍🏻

For a 80% swing, should we also use a weaker grip?

You can. Try both and see which one you prefer.

Wrist? In your video THIS WILL TRANSFORM YOUR CHIPPING! (link below), you do a great job with the help of Hackmotion. Would also like to see the GRID setup for each shot. In this video I thought It was unclear in the 3 distances of 30y, 50, 80y the movements of the wrist for each. Is there only Radial Deviation(hinging} or Ulnar Deviation(cocking). Is there any Flexion or Extension? Do you hold extension during 30y, 50y or 80y to your finish or do you allow flexion after P7 (impact) to finish? 1:46 8:29 10:17 11:46 (float loading?) 13:04 13:44 19:54 Thank you Rob for all the hard work that you put into these videos. Your contribution to the golfing world is priceless. 🙏 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fJjsTlSD2Wg.html
