EPISODE 91.
After 5 long weeks, it’s time for a planking update!
There was so much footage to work through and edit, and so much information to cover, that I’m making this episode in two parts.
In this first part, as well as catching up with the planking progress, we strength-test the copper rivets - initially using a very dodgy forklift/lead setup, and then subsequently on a 250-ton hydraulic ram!
We also discuss plank widths and caulking / corking bevels, Rosie cuts out her first plank, and Pancho finds her way to the rooftop.
Part 2 of this video coming very soon!

(and that stress test machine backs up what the forklift tests proved) Pancho achieves the summit! (what I wouldn't give to hear her inner dialogue) Angle jig for the caulking edge router is a simple work of genius (add that to the rivet making machine) The wood planks are voluptuously gorgeous. I'm 65, a 16 year stroke survivor, had triple cardiac arterial bypass last June, I have been "retired" since the stroke, and am now the house-husband, like my wife labeled me. I have lots to do. I don't social media much, so I am so blown away when I realize how much other people watch and find fault with things from your work... the bark inclusion on that one frame was so obviously just that, (not rot) it amazes me when folks nit-pick to the extent they do. But, hey, it got us a little snippet of the perfectly done "repair". Maybe I should spend more time with my zoom button and magnifying glass, to find every little "fault" I can find... Nah! I'll just enjoy the successful work of a PROFESSIONAL SHIPWRIGHT and his hand picked crew and have faith that my 2 cents worth is better kept to myself! There is one thing that does bug me though... Is Pancho staying warm enough?

One of the more brilliant videos ever posted by this group. Pete's description of how carvel built wooden ships are made water tight should be required viewing for any historian studying wooden ships. Also, I would like to point out something about the over-engineering of the boat, which the rivet testing shows is clearly one of Leo's obsessions. Along those lines, I just want to point out that the actual history of Tally Ho is strong evidence that the design and construction as prescribed by the plans is extremely over-engineered and incredibly durable. The boat was subjected to a range of function and mistreatment in sea conditions spanning the globe for a very long history, and came through with flying colors. That is very strong evidence, to my mind, that this version of the boat will be incredibly strong, seaworthy, and will care for the health of its crew and passengers so long as they care for themselves. Also, the incredible beauty of this vessel is growing as its sea-meeting skin is completed. It is so exciting!

You guys are awesome I can actually see this boat getting done unlike some other channels which seems each week they get one board done... Keep up the work can't wait to see her on the water sailing the high seas...

Somehow I missed the 'part 1' bit in the title, so that ending really caught me out! I'm all on edge now waiting for the second part - quite disturbing. But the boat is looking so good now, it's starting to feel like it really will be finished "in two years time"!! The amount of work that's going into this is quite overwhelming, though. I shall never be able to look at a boat again and just think "oh, a boat" - now I'll be looking at every boat and wondering how it was built and how much work went into it. It just goes to show that we are essentially and fundamentally a cooperative species, not a competitive one.

After watching this serious from what seems like forever, I think the Original builders would be Proud of your restoration/Rebuild. Think they couldn't of asked for more detail oriented person to take on such a task, well done. cant wait to see her in the Water.

I probably sound a bit weird and creepy saying this, but I find it genuinely exciting seeing those hull curves taking shape. What beautiful lines! :-)

Oakum at 21:42. I haven't heard this word used since I was a plumber back in the '70s. We used oakum and lead and specialized caulking irons to create joints in cast iron waste piping. There's a box of old caulking irons somewhere out in my shop. What I find fascinating about this is that I had no idea oakum was used in shipbuilding, nor that it has its own specialized caulking irons. Cool!

I just love the way you (both Leo and Pete) explain how you’re thinking about the way to plank a boat like this. Easy, safe and efficient! Can’t wait for episode 91.2 ...
