Thank u. I had a stunning 2.5 antique mine cut diamond with 2 carats of H VSl surrounding it ..stolen. My diamond was Gia G vvs. I knew I would never be be able to replace it. I'm 71 and the ring was a gift from my husband.. After listening to many of ur utube lessons, I have decided to go with lab grown and not as high a color or clarity knowing, because of your tutorial it can still be beautiful. Also, I have selected platinum!! Thank u. My broken heart is on the mend.....p.s. it was a cleaning woman working.for Merry Maids!!
I got a used platinum diamond ring and I'm in love with it. It took me a few days to get used to the weight of the platinum but I like it and it feels lovely on my finger.
Thank you for much for the video! I learned so much about the 18karat white god vs Platinum. It helped me to choose what precious metal I should go for my ring.
Great video! Thank you for your expertise. I would love a platinum ring setting because of its durability but yellow gold looks so much better against my skin.
Glad I was able to kinda help lol. Go as big as you can on the diamond and if there is left over budget go platinum. If budget is tight after diamond selection go gold. The ultimate tie breaker is always the bank :).
I’ve just ordered a ring to be made with an opal. I originally thought 18ct white gold but ended up going with platinum. I hadn’t thought about platinum, but the jeweller I went through suggested it :)
My fiancée and I will get married on my late brother's birthday in December so I need to change a difficult day for me. Anyway I made my mind up I'm getting platinum wedding bands and I'm saving up for them and I don't mind the price. I picked up them already. I learned from that video I appreciate that.
I personally love how my yellow gold started to show through the rhodium. After 13 years of having my rings ,I had my I had the rhodium reapplied to my rings. I kind of miss the yellow hue peeking through. Enjoyed your video.💛💛💛
@@sandybeach2184 I can't vouch for anyone else but for my original set that certainly isn't the case. From my experience, as long as you take good care of your ring and your ring is made by someone who knows what they're doing, you shouldn't have to have the rhodium reapplied too often. From my experience as long as you take your rings off when you're swimming and or washing dishes and/or cleaning, the rhodium on your ring will last for years.🙂
I have white gold wedding and engagement rings that recently got bent out of shape. They've been super sturdy up to this point (I'm rough with my hands and I never take them off) so I can't think what I would have done, it's like I stepped on them?! But I'm going to have them remade in platinum so they'll be sturdier. I figure buffing out scratches in platinum will be a better alternative to getting my rings reshaped if I manage to keep damaging them like this!
Thats impressive :) Do you go the the gym alot? I am assuming you have a very petite band, which has a down side of durability in exchange for a petite look. Platinum will certainly help in this use case.
Thank you for this informative presentation. White gold can’t be polished often, right? Because every time it’s polished, a thin layer of rhodium will be stripped away. Does platinum have a layer of rhodium on the surface to make it shine too? Hope you get to see my message, Thank you in advance, 😊
Thank you so much this video was superrrr informative. Could you talk more about the wear and tear of each metal chouce, and post some examples? How they will actually look after a while is hard to find
As an Indian jewellery retail store owner, I could say that the only 2 metals that people pay you for is 18K(for gifting), 22K(for personal use) GOLD & SILVER
I am currently looking for a round lab-created diamond on James Allen using the link you provided in your round diamond comparison video a few months back. Am I correct in setting the clarity to VS2 when looking at lab-created diamonds to account for the "one grade off" you described in another video? I am aiming for a stone with a clarity no lower than SI1. Also, I have seen a few IGI reports with a cut grade of excellent. Which is the better cut between ideal and excellent? Thank you for all of your help. Your channel has made searching for the perfect diamond so much easier.
Thanks for the love Bryan! Yes correct set the setting to VS2. Sometimes you do get eye clean SI1 settings so you can always leave it just in case. The term ideal is same as excellent. Glad I have been helpful.
Would the special polishing for platinum have to be done by a professional? My mother has been wearing her wedding set for 55 years and she rarely takes it off , it’s a huge set and it’s platinum she’s never had anything done to it and it looks spectacular, is what is being made today as good as what she has from 1967? I’m looking to upgrade and tod my husband I wanted platinum
Hello great jewelry sage Osiris. I learned ahhh lot from you. I have recently purchased this 1k diamond from JA through your guidance. i have scrolled through a lot of stones and stumbled upon this SI2 without any blemishes visible at all. I couldn’t believe how clean it is for its clarity grade. Is it possible for you to look at this stone for me? I could send you a clip to analyze please
Hi I have some element in my hand with chemical test 18 carat white gold you test is go through I cannot figure out what kind of material is this is a platinum or a white gold can you help me out please
Mann, I wanted to get platinum ring but it's £1000 difference between the two with the ring my girlfriend wants ( she wants a .5 carat total cluster type ring ) think it's worth 1000 uk pounds to go platinum??
Price. At this time, gold is trading at 150% more than platinum. Density. There is no measure by which platinum is twice as dense as gold. For 14 karat gold, platinum has between 47 and 66 percent greater density, depending on choice of alloys for the gold.
Platinum all the way. You can wear it everyday and it doesn’t scratch. My engagement ring is an old platinum ring and it looks pristine, no stone shift, and a nice weight. I have gold pieces that show more scratches.
Say I go for a big mens signet ring, where I dont want to polish the inscription for fear of wearing it away, is 14K yellow gold a better option than platinum as it won't tarnish??
I wouldn't say "tarnish" is the right descriptor here. Platinum develops a patina as it ages, but it's not like when silver is exposed to air...platinum does not lose metal when it is scratched like gold does...the platinum will just sort of....move. No platinum is lost in the polishing process.
Platinum is the only hypoallergetic PRECIOUS metal, but there are other options out there for sensitive people with a tight budget, like Titanium and certain kinds of stainless steel. I don't really see any advantage of Plantinum or white Gold over Ti, besides them being expensive.
So I’m trying to understand the difference between 14k and 18k gold beside the amount of gold in it. Which one is more durable? Sounds to me like 14k would be more durable due to the higher concentration of the other metals. Besides the composition of metals is there trusty a difference in appearance for the money?
Correct, 14k is harder. As far as color goes, its the same. As the video states, they age differently. In 5 years time, platinum may have a better luster. All fixed with a repolish and redip. If it's rose or yellow gold, 18k has a deeper color.
Can you polish your jewelry all the time or just wash it ...what's better vinegar or alcohol with or without baking soda and even though 10k is less er can I still wear every day will it tarnish
Hoping you will respond to this message… I am having a diamond made from my husband’s ashes and my hair, he died a lil over a year ago from Covid hospital protocols. I will have it set in a ring and trying to decide best metal and setting for longevity and security. I have taken my wedding set off and secured it in a safe for my daughter when I pass. I am only 53 so I expect 20+ more years and wondering if you might recommend best metal to use and if a 6prong would be better than a 4 prong? I wore my ring always so I intend to do the same with my new one. I am right hand dominant and was thinking right ring finger but I am thinking a left finger would be a better option. Look forward to your response
Gracias! I think if there was room in the budget, I would go plat. It has benefits no doubt. Now if I need to reach my carat goal weight and I go ver budget, I am getting gold. I think its situational. The goal is to hit the target carat and ring that makes your partner swoon. If there is some room in the budget Platinum all day.
Can anyone let me know how to polish my platinum diamond ring at home? I like it shiny, and it now has scratches averywhere. My fiance bought it abroad so it is not possible for me to take it back to the shop for repolishing..
I am more than willing to pay for the service, but I went to some established diamond jewelers in my country... They all refuse to polish my ring, because it is platinum, because I didnt buy it at their establishment, etc.. but ya I'd rather have it polished professionally.. Thank you..
Are there diffrent 14k white gold 14k gold with rest of palladium is great, i suppose. 14k gold. With a lot of nickel and silver. Is worth less. Or most of time same composition?
All my rings are 10k white gold and I get them cleaned and rhodium every 6-9 months. Since my wedding bands and engagement rings are covered in diamonds, you don't really see the metal so i kept it to 10k due to this to save on the price point. No point in paying for something I don't even see lol
@@DayanaRomero30 It's when a woman exhibits rare, thoughtful and reasonable behavior. Much like the woman that loves her .50 carat diamond engagement ring. Because the symbol of love is more important than a large expensive diamond. Those women are considered Unicorns, the mythical creatures they are.
Tis is rue, but remember its double the weight. SO price will always be higher. But to your point, its still the ideal time to buy platinum if its in your budget.
I would recommend doing more research white gold looks better and is strong for women’s necklaces and anything for women it is also wider and brighter plus gold is a better investment and it’s stupid to pay more for a metal that is cheaper in value like platinum there’s a lot more but I’m going to leave that to your own research. PS I’ve been into jewelry my whole life if you buy gold that is not 24 karat which you can wear by the way, then I recommend white gold because the alloy metals are more valuable and durable, such as palladium
My wife is allergic to silver. So all those silver jewelry out there can't be worn by my wife. Her skin starts to blister around the silver jewelry. Wearing gold is just fine for her.
This video is full of technical misinformation, though i love platinum as a metal myself, for jewellery and otherwise. A lot of things are wrong with what you're saying, Platinum is for example not double the density of gold, it is about 3 grams more per centimeter squared...
