@HiTop Films Thank you so much for this. Superman is my favourite superhero. He was the first superhero my dad introduced me to and has lasted within my heart ever since I was 10. No matter what anyone says I thoroughly believe the world will always need Superman, and it sometimes saddens me how in an endless sea of superhero media Superman continues to be disregarded and misinterpreted, even WB stated in 2020 how thdy have no idea what to do with the character as they of the mindset that Superman doesn't work in today's era... and that just honestly hurts a little. I truly hope the rumors of a new Superman film being developed are true, and whether it be Henry Cavill or someone new I think we all know that *we need the big blue boyscout more than ever*

TRUE AND BASED. If we get a Batman movie that perfectly captures the character, surely we can have a Superman movie in the same vein. In the same universe? I'd love that. There's nothing embarrassing or outdated about Superman's morals and ideals. Marvel embraced it with Captain America in over 7 movies and he's one of the most popular characters in movies now. WB needs to get out of their own way and stop making the Superman "angsty" in an attempt to make him "relatable".

@rogueguardian

I don't know what the mindset is there. edgy and cool doesn't automatically make it relatable. Spider-Man's a complete dork and an angsty teenager but that's exactly why we love him, we've all gone through high School. Every single one of the movies has a core aspect of that. He's relatable because they bring him down to a level. Heck even when it's really cosmic he's still the most likable and relatable. They treat him like normal guy first and then they show us his powers. So once we see him doing superhero things we can root for him.

And even in the SnyderCut Zack seems to undermine his own goal again considering it's very clearly setting up yet another evil Superman storyline with the apocalyptic future where he obeys Darkseid. Dr Manhattan (someone who could exist anywhere, everywhere, at all points in all timelines, someone who existed in every universe-) said something deeper than any of us could, which was that the universe could exist without himself- Dr Manhattan. But that the universe can't exist the same way without Superman, it needs Superman- because he's the universe's only hope in every timeline. Dr Manhattan said without Superman- there can be no hope. Because even if Superman is weaker, outmatched, outplayed, not as smart, or outnumbered- he's fighting with more determination than anyone else. The determination to find hope. To find the light at the end of the tunnel, no matter how far that beacon of light is, or even if he can't see it- he believes that if he keeps pushing he'll find that light. I think the issue is they try to give Superman, modern Superman these big huge problems. They leave him out as an alien, different from everyone, forgetting that he has also lived his entire life as a human, with human problems. If you can get the perfect balancing act- the worlds savior, a super hero, with human problems and struggles, you can make Superman relatable in any timeline. You also need a solid Lois Lane to be his rock, anchoring him to the human side of his life. I think this is why Superman Returns didn't work, that Lois Lane wasn't very good, and I would also argue Amy Adam's Lois Lane wasn't that good either, but I believe that is more of a writing decision than anything else. I never felt their relationship ever truly developed because we never got to see her with Clark Kent, just with Superman. Lois needs to see the human side before she meets the superhuman side. I don't think it works any other way.
@webbedshadow2601

You put my thoughts & feeling into words perfectly, I don't like Amy Adams' version of Lois Lane but I don't know why, it definitely has to do with the writing, I don't remember MoS and I haven't seen BvS but in ZS's Justice League when they were on the farm and he remembers who he was after putting the jacket on, I liked seeing Supes with Lois as Clark Kent, not as Superman.
@romarqable
@romarqable Год назад
@@webbedshadow2601 I know a lot of people hate Dean Cain, but there is a perfect line from Lois and Clark that really speaks to this. Clark once said "Superman is what I can do. Clark Kent is who I am." Writers tend to forget he was Clark Kent for many years before he became Superman. He became Superman, just as HI Top said, because of the love and kindness he learned during his early years with the Kent's and the small-town care he learned from Smallville. That's why Clark Kent is just as important a part of any Superman story, maybe more so than Superman because it allows the story to ground itself in his humanity. I think the first step to making a great Superman story is truly understanding his humanity. As soon as you engage in the unfortunately widespread misconception of him just being "strong alien dude", you've already set yourself up for failure. That either results in translations that simply do the character a disservice, or translations that feel the need to stray too far away from what makes Superman so endearing in the first place. We're still yet to see him at his full potential on the big screen imo. I'm really hoping WB pulls it off someday.

Batman v Superman is edgy as hell, but it will never be as mature as Spider-Man 2 (a very hopeful film that took liberal inspiration from 1978's Superman). Almost everytime I think of the Man of Tomorrow, I think of 2 moments. Both are from "Superman: The Movie". First one is when Clark is leaving home to head up North, and his mom says with tears in her eyes, "Remember us, son. Always remember us." The other one is the last scene of the film where the warden says to Superman "This country is safe again, Superman. Thanks to you." Then Superman responds with "No, sir. Don't thank me, warden. We're all part of the same team. Goodnight." Both scenes capture the core essence of the character in just a few seconds, yet WB can't seem to make an entirely new Superman film based on moments like that.

What they need to do for a Superman movie is give Superman emotional depth. There’s nothing wrong with embracing his status as a symbol of optimism and hope, but the character needs to be more than that. Showing us how Superman deals with being an outsider and also his almost neurotic personality would be very neat imo and help audiences connect to him on a more personal level . I think what would truly make him connect with audiences however is if they show his need to not fail, something that is almost a flaw for him in ways. He doesn’t handle failure well at all. Show us how he deals with that. And then show us how he overcomes his struggles to fight for what he believes in no matter what. Show us a Superman that struggles like we do, but picks himself back up to be a hero that fights for truth, justice, and a better tomorrow.

In a world like ours… I don't know, I just miss that almost naive thinking that any of us can be good with the right help and Superman, to me, has always been that "right help", the figure that is superior not because of his power, but because of how he thinks, how he loves, how he would never give up on us… superior on a human level. Clark Kent is a good man, a really good one. He is the core of Superman. Without Clark, Superman is nothing. Without Superman, Clark is still Clark and always would be. For Batman, it's different. Man, I wish they made a superman movie that dives in the "weird and random" part of superman stories. You know, stuff like "superman is rescuing people from a burning building, then Mr Mxyzptlk turns him into a grasshopper and the people into chicken."

Not only are we being drowned in super hero media, as of lately, we're also being drowned with the superheros being the villains or villain origins. The boys, Invincible, black Adam, Multiverse of Madness, Joker, the dark timeline from Zack Snyders justice league, etc.. My point being, although it was fun and a subversion of the genre to begin with, I miss when superheros were just that, super and heros. DC and warner brothers seem to flood the market with batman, as would I, it clearly makes the most money, but it's been done to death. I absolutely love the superman and lois tv show and is akin to a breath of fresh air and a movie along the sames lines would be brilliant.

People tend to overlook the "man" part of his name, and focus on the super. A story about him should have his powers take a backseat to Clark's personality being his true super power. His bright and colorful persona make people tend to think he's just some goody two shoes, always smiling, always optimistic, always fearless and perfect. A certain line in his last movie makes people think he's just the embodiment of hope. A property about him takes real passion and knowledge for his character, you can really explore darker and deep themes with him: stories of loss, pain, depression, sadness, confusion, anger, and in the end, how love, truth, justice, and positivity win. Now more than ever we need a superman movie, but I'm scared that the writers of today are so bitter and different they want to change who Clark is at the core. Thank you for making this video, it really does sum up my thoughts perfectly

Superman is the hero the world will always need. Regardless if your not a fan of the character, Superman is still the character that has changed comic book media indefinitely. Superman is many things to so many people, but deep down I think Christopher Reeves's summed up Superman perfectly: *"He's a friend"* Superman loves all of us, even when we don't love ourselves. Superman taught me to keep on going in this crazy, cynical, often grim world, and to not lose hope for a better tomorrow. Rest in Peace Tim Sale. Your art has transcended comic book illustration and has inspired so many, including myself.

Probably the best video I have seen about Superman in a very, very long time. Honestly, I think as time has gone on I’ve lost faith in characters like Superman because the world itself is so cynical, dark, and unforgiving. In turn, I’ve grown up thinking of Superman as boring and uninspired, when in actuality, he’s quite the opposite. Whatever happens, Superman deserves a new movie, a new game, a fresh start. The world deserves it.

Bro I can't say it enough, your takes/videos on batman and superman are honestly brilliant. You get it, I love watching your videos on these characters. Like literally the other day I was thinking about just what you said, a period piece in the 30's for superman where his saying "the American way" turns into "better tomorrow" as he has to work through all the injustice. Anyway, it's awesome how well you speak about these characters, your one of the few people on RU-vid that I feel actually understands them.. Superman is great because he's more human than all of us without even being one. He's literally ted lasso but has powers, and that's why he's spectacular.

Superman was my first favorite comic book superhero. I watched Superman 1, 2, and 3 when I was a kid and loved it (3 is _eh_ now though). But after years of mediocre DC movies that involve the man of steel, I switched to Spider-man. Hopefully someday, there would be a superman movie that would reawaken my love for the superhero.

I personally would say the Snyder trilogy are pretty rad superman movies. Might not capture what you like about the character. But i appreciated the immigrant/adopted child story of MoS, the unsure of himself in a complicated world story in BvS, and the his homecoming in ZSJL.

@Mr. M can you cite to me any moments when Snyder's "Superman" does a little good thing without being forced by an outside person (Jonathan, Lois, Batman, Zod, Jor El)? This is simple : this moment doesn't exist.

The American Way for Superman means life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That the individual can make a difference. Personal responsibility and the belief that you are here for a reason and you are given the opportunity to find that reason.

It is sad to think Man of Steel, what was the perfect setup to a DC movie series, came out in 2013 and since than what it tried to accomplish hasent worked. We probably won’t see a Superman in a movie with Robert Pattinson’s Batman, so who knows when we’ll get a movie again. If only WB understood the fandom Henry Cavill could get another shot.

Batman Begins (2005) and Superman Returns (2006) should’ve led to Batman v Superman. Christian Bale and Brandon Routh were the perfect age to build a DCEU for 2 decades. Would’ve been better than what we got. 💯
