Loved this reaction😂. Kinda knowing your taste of music now, and loving Porcupine Tree, your journey of emotions was just great to see. Keep it up. PS: I really liked the intro😂. I am a sucker for ambience and just zoning out

Thanks for your honest heartfelt reaction to my request as always David. Not gonna lie knowing you as I do now, I kinda knew how this one would go haha. Personally love the slow build in my headphones taking in every subtle addition as it slowly builds. For context though if it comes on in the car, and I'm with my Wife She is the one always saying " Can I skip it on 4 minutes first?" 😂 Really happy with your score too

Fun fact: Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth) provided the background vocals for the album version of this track. :) Even funnier fact: Mikael Åkerfeldt also played the solo (at 18:50) on the album version.

Those kind of repetitive, calm and ambient-like passages really divide people. Some find them boring, others enjoy to be sucked into those atmospheric hypnotic, even meditative soundscapes

John Wesly era Porcupine Tree is some of the best prog in history!

My man you need a little bit of patience listening to prog bands haha... I don't understand how you can get through some TOOL songs where they have like 3-4 minutes of 1-0-0-0-1-0-0-0 but not this chill build up intro haha... Porcupine Tree is one of those bands where the songs have more of a "close your eyes and enjoy the journey" kind of feels, not just 13 min killer slaying riffs. Anyways, got in to Porcupine Tree through Opeth. Steve Wilson, the singer, was the one producing Blackwater Park and he even has some singing parts in some songs on that album, like the chorus on Bleak. He is a master producer and is a big reason that Opeth has such insanly good production on their studio albums from Blackwater Park and forwards. You can hear every instrument and it doesn't sound overproduced even though it has so many layers of distorted guitars and stuff. Very good mix on this live video as well, hope you get to do Trains or Lazarus as well, absolute bangers! And of course more Opeth would be very nice:)

I couldn't have written it better. David is obviously a fan of more straightforward music. After all, his most popular band is Kiss. This is the exact opposite of progressive music. Another thing. Length of intro. David counted the entrance of Gavin Harrison as the end of the intro. I think the intro ends when Steven strums the guitar for the first time, so a moment before the first verse.

@@Fitchie69 to be fair though his first criticism was that it was too straightforward, only 2 chords and boring him to death

I can’t imagine the song without the long “intro”. The build is what I love. But the first time I heard this was late a night.

If you didn't "feel" the intro maybe you're listening to the wrong band for you. PT songs are usually a mix of soft and hard, beauty and the beast kind of. This is why I love this band. Try Hatesong live from the same show. If you’re not impress just drop listening to them.

I mean what would happen if you listen to Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother? or maybe 10 other songs from their catalogue? There are some masterpieces that have a lot, A LOT of ambient sounds and passages (some even 8+ minutes). You have to understand why they chose to do that. There is always a reason in the context of the meaning of the song. This is honestly, very very superficial thinking that I wasn't expecting on this channel. But hey, if you dont like prog, you dont like prog. to each there own. Also, every single second of that intro is enjoyed by the fans in the live audience. I can guarantee you that. I'm one of those. I wouldn't cut one second of it.

Another great review! I love this band, and this song along with Blackest Eyes, Trains, Shallow, Herd Culling and The Start of Something Beautiful are my favorites.

This is British Prog rock at it's best, I am 70 and this is brilliant and PT is a rabbit hole you will love.

Love this band. They have some songs like this with a slow build where you get rewarded for being patient. It's a journey! They also have more immediate songs like Blackest Eyes. That's prog for yeah 😅

Yeah, this guy belongs in simpler music where you get to come without waiting. Blabbermouth without established accreditations. Syanara David Heretic.

It's not an "intro", it's the first part of the song/ride. But if you didn't like the part, fair enough. Overall, I truly enjoy your honesty!!! And you seem to be open to catch on to whatever may gain your interest - no matter your initial impression. Kudos mate!

Even if he himself doesn't want to hang that comparison that high, you can't tell me Steven Wilson didn’t let his Pink Floyd influence (Shine On you crazy diamond) get the better of him when composing this...
@Silber7

One detail (maybe the only point for a 'production' score): did you notice that the background video on stage started out completely frantic with the high speed trafftc video, even while the music was as calm as can be? So from the beginning, there was some 'something is not right' suspense... Later the same visual was then 'evenly matched' by the music

Awesome reaction! Love how honest you are instead of just appeasing the audience like 99% of other reaction channels. It’s so easy to see when people do that and it’s gross lol. Keep up the good work and stick to your principles like you do, nice job :)

I also get the Pink Floyd vibe. So many people only grew to appreciate Floyd after they became well known as so self indulgent. This livened up more than many Floyd tracks.
