I had to scrounge together lots of little pieces to connect my gas pedal to my engine again. I'll show you all the components and how to adjust everything to get full throttle. There are 3 or 4 bellcranks that all need to be adjusted correctly for smooth throttle and full opening.
URO Parts used:
Throttle Rod Coupler 911 423 081 01 - amzn.to/30qbtPq
Accelerator Rod Boot 911 423 593 01 - amzn.to/3jpUxju
Accelerator Rod Bushing 901 423 227 00 - amzn.to/2EUUQ6U

So this is what that piece of disintegrated bushing my 911's tunnel was for. Thanks!

Wow. You described it right. That must have been a real brain puzzle to chew through. Looks like you covered the bases, and allowed for future adjustments. Thanks for the hard work to show us how you did it. 👍

I know I have said this many times, but these videos are great very helpful. You're ahead of me right now (on my 356, but definitely helpful).

Cool, it seems the linkage hasn't changed much since the 356! Keep going on that 356

Small steps, Tom. Couldn't tell you how many times I said to myself "that was harder than I thought it would be". Good job!

Thanks Chris. What does the Triumph accelerator linkage look like? Is it a simple sheathed cable or a rod system?
@roundtailrestoration
@roundtailrestoration 3 года назад
@@GarageTimeAutoResto It's a rod system. The pedal and the carb linkage are joined by a removable rod and everything else is solid steel. Cables were used until later cars.

@roundtailrestoration

@@GarageTimeAutoResto Yup, starting with the Mk3 around 1970-71 or so, the cable came up and over the valve cover. Some people convert to cables.

@GarageTimeAutoResto 3 года назад
Thx, I'm just wondering what if cables weren't allowed in the 60's? I seem to remember vw used cables in that era
@chrisrudling8420

Looks a complete ball ache to set up Tom , again your perseverance is admirable. I just ran a sleeved cable from my pedal linkage direct to my PMO's. Well done for getting it sorted!
@GarageTimeAutoResto
@GarageTimeAutoResto 3 года назад
It's wild how complex this is. Porsche clearly used some 356 parts to cobble this together.
@chrisrudling8420
@chrisrudling8420 3 года назад
@@GarageTimeAutoResto Seems so convoluted when a sleeved cable would have just done the trick. I think on some systems the Porsche engineers definitely over complicated things
@GarageTimeAutoResto
@GarageTimeAutoResto 3 года назад
I wonder if a sheathed cable wasn't allowed back then due to potentially sticking? That's the only reason I can think of. Their convoluted rods will fail, but will always revert to idle?

@@GarageTimeAutoResto Well it you come unstuck here's a link for the cable (though mine was for RHD) www.tuthillporsche.com/product/throttle-cable-porsche-911-lhd-carb/

This video was a god send. If you have a tig welder you’re already set up for brazing. Just buy some silicone bronze rods.
@GarageTimeAutoResto
@GarageTimeAutoResto 3 года назад
Great😀. I should use silicon bronze more often! I've tried it and it's not that much different. Just lower temperature.

Hi Tom, Great video. I ripped everything out of my tunnel and all parts are in boxes. I'm not sure I have all of the accelerator linkage parts. My plan is to paint my car on the rotisserie and then try to run all lines through the tunnel before I put on the suspension and put it on the ground. We will see if that works. Oh, yeah and headliner too, should be easier upside down.
@GarageTimeAutoResto
@GarageTimeAutoResto 3 года назад
Cool that will make lots of things easier. I had my 356 on an octagon rotisserie and the bars got in the way of the painting process so now it's on a flat dolly and I will be crawling around again to put all those tunnel items back in, sigh.

It's no wonder Porsche had to get Toyota in to show them how to make cars profitably! Why use a cable when a massively complex mechanical linkage will do?
@GarageTimeAutoResto
@GarageTimeAutoResto 3 года назад
It's a wonder Porsche made any money back in the 60's and 70's. My only thought is Porsche was really concerned about a stuck open throttle. If a small pebble or grit built up in a cable then it could stick. The mechanical linkage has huge clearances everywhere so it's unlikely to get stuck. I'm still baffled why there are so many adjustments though.
@richardjones38
@richardjones38 3 года назад
@@GarageTimeAutoResto It is a mystery - the 914 and all beetles and VW buses always used a cable. Have a look at the mechanical throttle linkage at the pedal end in RHD a 964 or 993 for another complex throttle linkage. They used cables, but after moving the clutch assist spring mechanism from the gearbox (915) to the pedals (G50), there wasn't enough room for the shaft running across from the tunnel to the pedal, as used in all earlier RHD models. The 'fix' was another complex mechanical linkage mounted on the front firewall, using the space up above the clutch assist spring mechanism to transfer the motion across towards the tunnel then back down to floor level. Bushes, cranks, pushrods and ball joints everywhere! Annoyingly in the parts catalogue they try to show it on the same page as the LHD version which is not helpful at all.
