Time to assemble some shiny parts on my project 911. New stainless fuel lines routing through the tunnel plus the steering is now fully rebuilt from the steering wheel to the tires.
I replaced a bad bearing in the steering shaft which to be honest wasn't easy to remove. Luckily it was the $6 bearing and not the $75 bearing that was faulty.
My custom fuel lines went in okay, but it's important to prep the end with something smooth before you fish it through.
Lots of good tips in this video and I definitely recommend you check your fuel lines before its too late.

I wouldn’t want my wife’s purse to get caught up in anything on my car, that’s where she keeps my allowance! Can’t beat McMaster Carr, they are our go to place for stuff at work. Awesome as usual!

Ha ha, now I'm going to dream about purses full of money. McMaster is only about 45 min from me! There's one in Chicago too I think.

Nice job working around the new paint. Not sure that I could do that without some casualties to the paint. At least that is how my luck runs. I like your idea regarding your upcoming videos.

Thanks, there's been a lot of comments about the paint. To be honest I didn't even really think about it. If I did I probably would have dinged it, ha ha.

We appreciate your willingness to share all of your hard work.... I did cringe with pulling and replacing bearings around that pretty paint job... Thanks Tom

Cool man, I should have said this but be sure that you turn the ignition key to disable the steering lock. I'm so glad I replaced that bearing. It feels so good now!

Some great progress Tom. I like the idea of installing the cover as well. Those lines looked like they took alot of patience to install.

Thanks Russ! Yep Porsche loves to hide things in tunnels and hidden cavities. I'm so much happier with the stainless lines versus the plastic ones.

@@GarageTimeAutoResto Had VW's then moved to LA and bought a 912...got rear-ended and bought a second 912, a '67 and put my rebuilt engine into it. Wish I still had that car. Can't wait to see both of your cars on the road! You are meticulous! And your son plays great guitar!

I hope you get your 912 back someday. Same, I started with VW too. Bug and Karmann Ghia in high school college. Shortly after I got the 356 and still have it luckily.

How did you dare to restore the steering wheel column in place? When it is freshly painted?
@GarageTimeAutoResto
@GarageTimeAutoResto 4 года назад
How? Just do it! I took a few precautions, but what would the dealer do in 1980? Maybe I should change my motto from its only metal to its only paint. Not a scratch by the way. Oh, I cut this part of the video and didn't explain. I tried to remove the steering housing from the dash but it's installed with shear bolts and round heads. I would have done damage to the paint and bolts for sure with vice grips.

On your stainless steel fuel lines are you using metric size fittings in stainless steel tubing?
@GarageTimeAutoResto
@GarageTimeAutoResto 4 года назад
Hi Marion, no it's 3/8 and 5/16 inch tube with AN-6 fittings. I'm using all aftermarket fuel system components including the Induction system, fuel pump, regulator, etc so that is why I switched to the less expensive and more available stuff.
