Great stuff Steve. Really enjoying this. A couple of things - Consider reusing your front trunnions if they're original brass Stanpart ones. Obviously, inspect them carefully but if you can't get high quality replacements, it's worth rebuilding the originals. Also, the grease/oil debate. It's correct that they came from the factory with oil, not grease but oil is so messy and the grease available these days is much better than back in the day, apparently. So I use grease in mine, and it works just fine. I think as long as the trunnions don't run dry, it won't matter which you choose. Lastly, I'd reuse those front springs if they are undamaged. They're easy to clean up and the car will sit better (lower) than with new springs. Shorter springs are available new, but several owners have reported a harsher ride due to their increased tension. Hope you don't mind me chipping in 😊

Thanks for the input! I got my replacement trunions from Rimmers and they look to be authentic. But I’m going to keep the old ones too. Never know… In terms of those springs. I just kinda want the car to ride level. It seems the Federal cars ride higher than the European cars due to the bumper height requirement. Do you know if that’s true?

Looking good, Steve. Lots of work knocked out!

Coming along. Glad to hear the Master Series is self leveling. The system sounds similar to por15.

It’s very similar. I like the stuff quite a bit. I’ve got the hang of using the Silver but the AG-111 is a bit different for sure.

That lower control arm road rash looks like the car lost a wheel while going a fair speed or maybe even the knuckle at some point. That must have been an exciting day for someone years ago!

Right? I had that happen to me once with my old 1977 Camaro. Certainly an exciting day. I kinda wonder if this is what prompted the upgrade to the GT6 spindles.

liked the rear upright part. i was thinking of drilling new holes where you welded in new washers as a way to lower the rear instead of using a lowering block. free and more easily brought back to stock height. all your vids are great. --- oh if you spring for new front springs maybe i can buy your old front springs.

That’s a neat idea on being able to adjust the ride height! I’m still trying to figure out what I’m going to do ride height wise. I want the car to sit level.

you also took off the rear backing plates without removing the axle from the trunnion. i always thought that was impossible.

Hi Steve. You're doing some great progress here. If it's okay, i have an advice for you. The front trunions must not be greased. I have found this information both in the Haynes and also the original Triumph workshop manual. The reason is that grease dos not get info the treads of the trunion and is not lubricating correct. I know that almost everybody uses grease, but You're doing such a fine job of restoring, so would be a shame not to follow the correct procedure. There is a special oil gun that fits on the grease nipple. BTW I have a A arm that looks just like yours. It happens when you loose a wheel. (Im embarrased to tell why i know that🥵) Thanks for the video.

Ulrik has it right, no grease. Oil in the trunions.

@@roundtailrestoration And of course I forgot to mention that the oil has be the same type used in the gearbox and diff.🤦‍♂

Thanks Ulrik and Chris! I’ve heard this a few times. That makes perfect sense to me after seeing the inside of a Trunion now. The oil should be the GL4 for yellow metals right?
@TheUlrikkaul
@TheUlrikkaul Год назад
@@StevesProjectCarGarage I'm not sure how the different oil types are known in the US. Here in the EU we call it Hypoid 80/90. Since this type of oil is also used in gearboxes where there is syncro rings, that should be fine.

First time checking in. Thanks for the video. I don't know how to say this nicely, so I'm just going to blurt it out: those parts look bloody awful. That paint doesn't look like it levels at all, and telegraphs every imperfection. Is that really what you were expecting?
@StevesProjectCarGarage
@StevesProjectCarGarage Год назад
It’s pretty thick. I wish I sprayed it to be honest. The paint is really good stuff, but I’m still learning and I could have certainly done things better.
