Wow!! That's a lot of flight time in the Tomcat in DCS It seems like a mix bag of people not wanting a military fighter in sim and others that are wanting it. But I'm excited since it's open world and limited like DCS.
@@StevesSimStation I don't know why people don't want military jets. It's a flight sim, yes it is focused more on the civilian aviation side but we still have a lot of fighter jets in the sim, and Heatblur adding a much more detailed one won't hurt anyone.
@@mcdonnelldouglasf-4ephanto607 bruh I want every cold War jet to come to the sim. Especially the mig 23 (I just love how it looks it's a grand child to the mig21 directly and its so cool!)
I’m so stoked for this plane. I own it in DCS and I’m so happy to see I no longer have to fly a toy F14 in MSFS anymore. This was such an awesome idea by Heatblur and IndiaFoxTecho. My understanding is Heatblur plans to bring all their planes over to MSFS. Indiafoxtecho also have a Eurofighter and F16 on the way. Military fighter jets finally have a bright future in MSFS and we don’t have to deal with toys being pumped out. I will be removing the other F14 forever. As a side note the HUD is accurate. Comes with the Forrestal aircraft carrier as well.
Yea I'm excited too and I have another video coming out that shows off a very cool feature. Glad to know the HUD is correct I wasn't 100% sure on that, but glad you clarified that.
The aircraft you were flying was an F-14A, it didn’t have a HUD in the modern sense, in fact it wasn’t even considered minimum equipment- pilots often turned the hud off to land on the ship. The F-14D had a more modern looking HUD with what you’d typically expect
I seriously hope they give us a F16 and the F4 phantom from DCS as well 😍 But for now im over the moon that we have a F14 Tomcat that's actually good! 💜
3:19 For context, that specific scheme shown was on that exact jet (buno 158985) from 1973 to 1975. This is the scheme that VF-2 had on all its aircraft during the F-14s very first cruise from 1974 to 1975, in which it did participate to a degree in the closing stages of the Viet Nam conflict, so technically, that F-14 did serve in Viet Nam. This bird is now in a museum outside of LA repainted into this scheme.
HUD is kinda barebones because of the aircrafts vintage, we're talking about 60's tech here, bleeding edge but still 60's. Refresh rate is too high, IRL it was 25 Hz I think, DCS got that right. At the time most aircraft had basically more advanced versions of WW2 era gyro gunsights. Though to be honest A7 Corsair, which entered service a couple years earlier, already had proper HUD that wouldn't look out of place in a 10 years younger design, but that's partially due to Tomcats development process being a massive CF and A7 having groundbreaking avionics in general. To answer your question at 20:08 Jester says "fuel's Joker", which means you're approaching minimum fuel level required for return to base, "bingo fuel" means you have to turn back right now. I hope they figure out a way to port more DCS modules to other sims like MSFS, it would help increase profitability of making them (which means more aircraft being recreated in game) and would allow MSFS players to get a taste of the good stuff 🤣Maybe it would also encourage some people to try DCS once C130 comes out, there can be more to it than just putting warheads on foreheads.
I kinda figured that about the HUD. Just some developers at extra stuff to take away the authenticity. I never even realized he said fuel was joker, lol. Rumor is there will be more coming over from DCS
The HUD that is simulated here is not considered a primary flight instrument (per the pubs)- It is for SA purposes and weapons employment. @@StevesSimStation
Yeah, the HUD itself is from like 1969 or 1970 when the first concrete TFX prototypes came in. They were VERY obsolete when by the 80s when you had planes like the F-18A/Cs entering service@@StevesSimStation
On you right knee panel you can switch different modes for the HUD, you were in "take off mode", other has different informations (but no speed I think)
was really hoping for a F-14B or D variant with the General Electric F110-GE-400 instead of the F-14A with Pratt & Whitney TF30's. Maybe they will offer them later on I hope!
Right now DCS versions include B and late model As. Early A is ether soon or has been released since I last played DCS. MSFS will probably get all the same aircraft. If they do a D model it won't be soon (After the DCS F-4E, and A-6) at least that's the statement Heatblur made to the DCS community when the F-14 came out for DCS
Yea I was impressed on the quality of this aircraft and it's more than worth it. Maybe we can get a F-16 from DCS thats highly detailed moved over to MSFS
@@StevesSimStation there is F-16ADF by Indiafoxtecho in development :)!!!!!! And Eurofighter nearly on the finish line of development. Damn I need better PC haha.
The DCS F-16 is a first party aircraft from ED, and I doubt you'll ever see any of those aircraft ported to MSFS unless this Heatblur F-14 makes a HELL of a lot of money which I don't anticipate.@@StevesSimStation
@@StevesSimStation you will get more information on the HUD if you can select different Hud modes on the upright panel just right to the pilots right knee. It should have Air to air mode, air to ground mode, cruise/nav mode, take-off mode, and landing mode IIRC. Cruise/Nav is the most basic with almost no additional info, landing gives you more info on vertical speed and flight path, etc. Each mode will give a little more info tailored to the task.
Now depending how much is similar to DCS. when you start the engines the Rio does the Emergency Gen check and when he is done he will tell you and you then do the post engine start up procedure. I believe the Engine master comes on too while he does that check but it has been a hot minute since I have flown it. I think it got stuck on that because you don't move the Wings till he is done with that.
It sounded like Jester was telling you to set the master test to emergency generator. The master test setting dial is all the way at the rear of the right side panel.
Should be yea... I haven't heard of any changes. I'm sure once it's launched IndiaFoxtEcho will announce on their Facebook page. Should be in MSFS Marketplace and Orbx
I was wondering how much they were going to have to simplify since MSFS doesn't have dcs damage models, weapons control systems, air to air engagement radar, tacan, elections seats, radar controlled gun and bomb sights, etc
They would just not implement those systems. They're not critical to the flight characteristics. And someone mentioned something about being able to lock on to other aircrafts which I'll be investigating
@@StevesSimStation oh that's cool it seems like the devs did a great job at bringing as much as they can to MSFS. Given the limitations of being a civil flight sim. Most of the Rios job is radar management.
While this is very cool, I've just never seen the appeal of jets like this in MSFS, it's a combat jet, and if you can't do combat in it, it's like what's the point, it would be like getting a f1 car and then not being allowed to go above 70mph. DCS is the best f14 experience.
I understand what you're saying but there are limitations when it comes to DCS. Where DCS isn't a 1:1 ratio of the entire world so you're limited on where you're flying. Yes you can't shoot off missile in MSFS but some people just wanna fly and relax and also do aerobatic movements. They both have their pros and cons. A lot of people have been waiting for the cross to happen though.
i dont mean to take away from your video, but just personally as a massive dcs fan, i tried msfs and was like cool, but now what do i do?@@StevesSimStation
DCS is a Combat Simulator, MSFS - for me - a World Simulator. So far, i was using the Flying Iron Spitfire in MSFS and the F-14A exclusively in DCS. Both are study level and it's nice to have a Study Level Cat now in MSFS. The next level will be the F-4 and maybe, this will be ported also one day to MSFS ... dream on 😁
Unfortunately it seems like the sounds implemented are not the same as what were used in DCS, which to my ears are night and day so much better than what IFE has put in the MSFS version. Pretty disappointing as that is a big factor for me personally(I know others won't mind). Otherwise, the modelling looks fantastic, I assume the flight model is good too(factoring in the MSFS limitations of course)
I think it sounds amazing! Only thing that I would say needs working is the fly by sound when in drone mode, flyby doesn't sound that great. And flight model is good but when I did my carrier launch video, it was weird but that was Msfs being the issue with the turbulence being way to bad over the ocean.
