I'd still recommend not for a week at least before the tournament, because if you shower, you'll be too used to good smells and the smell of the tourney will likely kill you. You need to get used to it first.

It depends in your social circle, I'm 22, and all my t-shirts are games, anime and my football ⚽ team, and everyone in my circle have at least one of those hobbies so no one's cringe

@Rose's Zen Garden Yeah when you take the bread and mayo and meat off of a sanwich you're left with just the lettuce and tomato, its no longer a sandwich, its a salad. You take away what makes a game a party game and it changes into a different game. Shocking isn't it? Personally I think the fighters are too RNG to be truly competitive, if you can kill at 20% with a 1/9 chance with Mr. Game and Watch, that's not "fair" that's just random chance, when you can crit and kill at 10% with Hero that's not fair, that's random chance, when you can pull different items with Peach/Daisy, that's not fair, that's random chance, I can do this with all the RNG dependant fighters but I'm not going to, you get my point. The game, even without the "fun party" aspects is still an unfair random chance generator which makes it having any fair play of a competitive aspect completely null. Turning a party game into a non-party game doesn't stop the base game from being a party game, and I messed up the quote anyways, Sakurai said "Smash isn't *JUST* a fighting game" so yeah that little word makes all the difference my bad.

Okay, as an anime fan and smash fan, I'll say this: I have NO IDEA where this stereotype comes from, because usually, I see Smash Fans complaining about anime-like characters. There's definitely some overlap, because obviously, when this game has Joker, and Cloud, and Lucina, etc, there's obviously gonna be a lot of anime fans who came from Smash and vice versa, but it's shockingly low compared to many other games (like Guilty Gear and Blazblue), and I feel it's significantly less common with competitive players. It's doubly interesting, because the Anime community doesn't like associating with the smash community. You could argue no community really does, but Anime fans either play Smash casually sometimes or wouldn't touch that community with a 10 ft pole, especially since there's a stereotype amongst anime fans that Smash players are the kinds of anime fans that only like mainstream shounen like Naruto and DBZ. It's rare to see someone who associates heavily with both except for Keef and ProZD and whatever.

Update! I posted I wanted to go, well I looked it up and went to one today. I went 2-2 kinda what I expected to be honest. I beat 2 people who were basically new to the game, kept spamming like two moves, one almost beat me cause he ran pyro/mythra and I’ve honestly never played a human that mained them so that was an experience and lost first match but literally adapted and won the next two for the set. Lost the 2 to people who go to the tourneys often, I feel like with some more fine tuning and consistency I could end up beating one of the two I lost. Overall it was fun, wished I stayed longer and played more friendlies but I had to leave. But just after one visit to a local tourney I do have to say I felt like I got better as a player.

Also people are very friendly for the most part and definitely cool with giving tips about the gameplay. The only person who wasn’t that friendly is the first match I played, he was completely new to the game but I didn’t know that and before we played I told him “I’m not good and this is my first tourney” and he said same, well out of two games he only took 1 stock from me, so he was kinda tilted and was calling me a liar, and I even tried to switch my character the second game and he kinda was complaining about that as well so I was like fine I’ll go back to who I was using. But yea he was salty. Other than that one loser, everybody else was cool. I swear my last game we were chilling and playing, like I was just talking to him the whole game, he whooped my ass so I don’t think he mind the convo.

So this is a new update, 2 months later…….. So let me tell you something. The tourney I talked about going 2-2 before, well found out that was considered a weak local. Went to multiple other locals, and yea. I SUCK!!!! Lmao. It’s all good, I started going to Austin texas area and the competition is a lot tougher, like a lot. As in I go 0-2 every time, even today. That might just be my matchups and plus I’m still learning to execute my kill setups better, but anyways yea it’s tough. Don’t let that discourage you, I stick with the tougher ones cause I get a lot more play time plus I like the vibe and scenery (it’s at a bar!!!). I hired a coach, been doing lesson with the coach the past month, and let me tell you!!!!! Hire a coach! Somebody who knows the game and wants to coach. I hired somebody who is top 100 in the country and is very technical. Plus we have it setup where we meet 2 hour before the local starts and get the lesson in before going into bracket. But the coach thing yea even just positioning wise, they will let you know why you should be position here instead of there, not just pound your mechanics, actually develop a game plan with you and then test you. But yea coaches will point out the little things that you might already know but actually show you in replays that you keep doing them and then practice more games. Plus if they are good, it’s just helpful to play multiple games against them. Before I couldn’t even do damage on my coach cause their movement is so fast and precise, but now I’m moving just as fast as them and able to keep up, just got to keep drilling combos and kill confirms. But yea, keep up the grind my peeps who read this far, I will keep grinding and maybe I’ll post another update.

Same and the adrenaline from the game makes me sweat even when im just playing friendlies. Im a clean person , but i always feel like i just got done working out after smash xD (Sweat wise, not saying smash is even close to an actual workout routine)

It's a combination I feel, because even before tournaments, I see people who smell terrible who haven't even started playing yet, like, we just got to the venue. Also, there's another thing, and I'm prefacing it now that this DEFINITELY doesn't apply to everyone, or maybe even most people, but there's definitely a higher amount of people like this in this community. I think what it is also is that many Smash players, or people who go to these kinds of social gatherings in general aimed more towards introverts (because as someone who existed as both, you rarely see social butterflies go here), is that the people here focus a lot less on their general appearance and sense of self. They aren't there to socialize or make friends often, and many of them just go out less in general, so they don't really care about how they smell as much, and if they haven't gone outside in a few days, they aren't as likely to have showered. Not to say they can't socialize, they kinda have to, but they aren't the kinds of people that can talk in a place they aren't comfortable. As I said, this clearly doesn't apply to everyone, or maybe even most people, but you don't need many people to stink up a small room. Not just as a Smash player, but I see this kind of crap in Anime Conventions, games and comic conventions, and even at expos. And the nervous sweat thing is true, I think doubly for smash (for some reason). I remember one time, and I don't smell bad normally, I have pretty good hygene, but one time, I played Smash for a day, after not having played it for a month, and after six hours of playing, I smelt worse than I have in the last week. I had a period where I didn't shower for three days because I was running around moving into a new apartment, and this was peak summer, and yet even then, I didn't smell as bad as a mere 6 hours of playing smash despite having showered the night before.

My heart pumps and im in the moment, might as well be my character on screen and just naturally my pits start to leak a bit lol And why sugar coat it? Were all nerds here xD we know the kind of people were talking about no matter what the convention, and you're right they may have other priorities than shower. Im just glad to know im not the only one. It felt abnormal since it only happens when i play smash xD
