As a long time Land Rover owner this really makes me smile. My first was a very tired Series I 1954. It went all kinds of places full of Scouts and caving gear. It even did it with a totally destroyed big end bearing which was put in backwards by a mechanic and block off the oil feed to one bearing. Next came a Series IIa 1968 from the New South Wales Electricity Commission (now privatised). It was great. Then came marriage and a block of land. The Land Rover paid for part of it. But before long a Series IIa 109 "camper" came along. Just perfect for "camping" when it rained. Another thirty or so also came and went. Now I drive a Subaru Outback. Sensible. But I still have a 21 year Old Discovery II with the Td5 engine. It was sold in Perth but then moved to Canberra. I bought it about three years ago with about 211,000km on the clock. Touch wood, it has been good so far. It is my "pet" Land Rover. Luckily, Australia is pretty dry and rust is not that great of a problem. I hope. Thanks for excellent material. Makes me remember my "spanner" days. Mike in Oz

That was most impressive. I would be very much tempted to wire up the high mounted brake light in preference to switching the rear window. On the one hand, if the rubber seal comes off intact then there would be a chance to ensure that it won't leak when you're done by means of whatever is proper installation procedure. Of course both seals might be damaged and/ or be a highly unpleasant undertaking overall vs the satisfaction of upgrading the car with a documented additional safety feature. I think keeping the new glass is the more appealing choice. 😊

Great work on that bumper Geoffrey very impressed. Battery woes a common feature on RU-vid but at least your battery wasn’t a completely dead dog. Probably one of the most neglected/abused items to be found under the bonnet(or elsewhere). Usually take my tea with a bit of milk in it but stronger than what most folks would like. I have a 2012 FJ Cruiser for off-road stuff. When I was 10-ish, my dad did concrete work for a guy who had a 110 Defender from the '70's. That's my regret. The exact same sounds came from my latest jalopy when starting. They seemed almost random. 4 issues present, I think you got 3 of them. 1 - Battery was weak. 2 - battery terminals on the battery buggered beyond repair. 2.5 - battery leads mangled. 3 - Negative lead to engine not connected. 4 - the main starter power wire was loose and corroded. A brand new battery, fixing the mangled connectors and tightening down the starter wire fixed here right up.
