I’m so glad that you included “Psycho “ in your 31 Nights of Frights, Liam. I’ve seen all of Hitchcock’s films and this is my favorite. The iconic shower scene, with its 52 cuts in 45 seconds is responsible for people afraid to take a shower and was the forerunner of Spielberg’s “Jaws” making people afraid to go in the ocean! I actually loved the fact that “Psycho” was filmed in B/W because it added to that creepy atmosphere of the film. Thanks for the awesome episode, Liam!
That is something I actually plan to draw a comparison to when it comes time to talk about JAWS 😂 I definitely think it would lose some of the magic being in colour myself!
Psycho. Yeah, what a classic. They remade it with Vince Vaughn in the 90's. I wasn't a big fan of that one. Re-makes are always hard to do, because you're always going to be compared to the original. Psycho 2 which was made in the 80's is actually an underrated sequel. I still can't believe they killed off Janet Leigh so early on in the movie, she was the hot sister. You can also say in a way that Psycho was the birth of the slasher films. Psycho paved the way for films like Halloween, Friday The 13th, etc. I think Psycho is one of those films that can't be remade. Awesome video!!
We don't speak of that 98 remake! 😅 what a bizarre project that was! Psycho certainly did pave the way for the slasher film along with a few other movies such as Black Christmas from 1974! I'm glad you enjoyed the vid!
I still don't consider Psycho to be a horror film, but within the genre we used to call thrillers. And yes, maybe even a psychological thriller. But a horror film? I just don't see it. (Please don't feel singled out, I have this argument with people every October. 😋) And while I DO think it's a great film, there are about half a dozen other Hitchcock films I'd place before it. Including the amazing Rear Window. I just think Psycho's twist ending is extremely easy to spot about halfway through the film. But that's just my opinion. It's all love. 👻
I completely understand and respect your opinion but there's no question or doubt in my mind that Psycho is a horror film. This film caused people to be terrified of taking a shower and its more jumpscare moments (specifically the Arbogast scene) are still extremely effective to this day! There's a lot of films out there considered horror that are a lot less frightening that Psycho put it that way! That said, my personal favourite of Hitchcock's is probably North by Northwest!
