I like the classic look/feel of a wood gun.. but for peace of mind I opt for the synthetic stock most of the time, it just seems like it could withstand more of a beating in rough and varied terrain/weather.
Synthetic always tends to have micro cracks over period of time due to chemical gun oils, heat & stress (handling). But it is very cost effective (fast production)& can be mold through CNC in any shape effectively. Wood is naturally tends to be more heat, chemical resistant, rugged & balanced. But costly production.
My 870 wood stock, first deer hunt a little snow and slightly above freezing the on the grip on the stock and on the forend had water damage I was not impressed
Kristian Winkel It depends on the type of wood (walnut, birch, maple etc.) and the synthetic material you’re comparing it too (carbon fiber, plastic, fiberglass etc.). Overall, I’d personally prefer synthetic.
Wood absorbs energy means it help to control recoil of the rifle to have a "Perfect Aim",but Synthetic don't ,but than also most other people will recommend to take Synthetic rifles coz of low maintenance required, Wood stock material have to face Climatic changes & it's very frustrating, Wood Rifles needs to be waxing all time to be in better condition.
